Dini | 107 comments Would any one in this group be interested in swapping English books? Goodreads Indonesia has regular book swaps in its events, but there usually aren't many swappable books in English.

I thought maybe we can list the books we want to swap and look over other people's lists, then make deals on which book(s) we want to swap with which. If you're located in Jabodetabek, I'm open to meeting up in person to exchange the books. If you're outside the city or abroad, maybe we can send the books.

Does this sound viable? Looking forward to your thoughts.

shanghao (sanshow) | 128 comments I'm up for this! I have a few books I actually want to give away or sell at a discount but am too lazy to post them on amazon or yahoo. This seems like a great idea!

message 3: by Ren Puspita (new)

Ren Puspita (renpuspita) | 244 comments @sanshow where you live at? Indonesia, right? I think if you want to sell the book, you can do it via FB or Twitter or maybe you can contact some local web who sell secondhand import book such as book centre.

Great idea, Dini!

It's a good idea. I have some books I got from giveaway. It'll be better to give them to people who will actually read them.

message 6: by Ren Puspita (new)

Ren Puspita (renpuspita) | 244 comments When we can start? I think better if we make list for book that we plan to swap. I will wait for the list and see if there's any interesting books

I'll make my list and post it here next week because most of those books are in my mom's home.

message 8: by Dini (new)

Dini | 107 comments Cool, I'll make my list sometime this weekend.

sanshow, aside from swapping or selling, you can also donate English books to groups such as Drive Books, Not Cars.

message 9: by shanghao (new)

shanghao (sanshow) | 128 comments Alright, I'll draw up a list too next week.

Dini, thanks for the suggestion!

During IRF I met the folks at Drive Books, I think we could giveaway some of the books to them the next time we meet up. They have boxes to drop the books in every anomali cafe branch.

My list to swap so far:
7 Kinds of Ordinary Catastrophes by Amber Kizer (I won this from giveaway, not my kind of reading)
Icefire by Chris d'Lacey
Savvy by Ingrid Law (got it from giveaway, it was signed by the author)
Loser/Queen by Jody L. Anderson (again, giveaway)
Darkest Mercy (ARC) by Melissa Marr (giveaway again :D)
I Am Legend by Richard Matheson
Graveminder by Melissa Marr
Buried Fire by Jonathan Stroud

I think there are still some more books but I need to check them again.

Dewi (dewis251) | 13 comments @ dini : i want "the atonement" and "something wicked this way come" please. But i haven't got time to list my swapable books. Hopefully i could do that next week

message 14: by Dini (new)

Dini | 107 comments @Biondy: OK, saving The Girl Who Leapt Through Time for you. I can't decide whether I want to swap it with Island Beneath the Sea or Blessings, though. Which one do you think is better?

@A.S. Dewi: Reserving those two books for you. Hopefully I'll find something I like from your collection. :)

message 15: by Biondy (new)

Biondy | 103 comments @Dini: to be honest, I can't compare them as I haven't read Island Beneath the Sea :))

I bought it like 6 months ago and haven't read it at all. I like Blessings. Here is my review for Blessings

message 16: by Mita (last edited Jan 03, 2013 05:17PM) (new)

Mita (mitab) | 8 comments I'm on holiday at the moment so I only have two:
* Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts
* Possession by AS Byatt

If anyone wants them, with or without swap as I'm keen to offload them to reduce my luggage, I'm more than happy to send them out anywhere in Indonesia.

**Books to be swapped on a lending basis

message 18: by Dini (new)

Dini | 107 comments @Biondy: I think I'll go with Island Beneath The Sea.

@sanshow: I'd like The Stockholm Octavo, please. Are there any books you'd like from my list? (OOT but I didn't realize it was TOP in your profile pic until I looked closer!)

I'd love a group meet up for us all to swap our books. :) Any suggestions on the place?

As for a meet up, perhaps somewhere convenient for most would be central area? Open to suggestions!

message 20: by Dini (new)

Dini | 107 comments @sanshow: You got it!

I would suggest places (i.e. malls?) around Sudirman/Thamrin, they would be easy to reach by most.

message 21: by Biondy (last edited Dec 25, 2012 12:59AM) (new)

Biondy | 103 comments @Dini: ok, I'll keep it for you. I'll send it probably in mid January as I am at Makassar right now and the book is at Surabaya

message 22: by Biondy (new)

Biondy, I really want your Northanger Abbey to complete my Jane Austen's collection, but I have no book to swap. Would you like to sell it?

message 29: by shanghao (new)

shanghao (sanshow) | 128 comments Happy new year everyone!

message 32: by Lala Sampurno (new)

Lala Sampurno | 19 comments hi, I'm new to this discussion. is it okay to just borrow without swapping? in case i found, or you found, things you wanna read, but cannot agree on anything to swap with?

[forgive my lack of capital letters, too lazy to use shift key]

message 33: by Dini (new)

Dini | 107 comments Sorry I haven't followed up on this. Was distracted by floods earlier this year, and then work got in the way. :(

For Biondy, sanshow and asdewi, if you're still interested in swapping the books, I can: a) bring the book(s) during next month's meet up if you're in Jakarta and you're coming to the meet up, or b) if not I can send the books to you.

Lala, I think borrowing/lending books is a good idea too.

message 34: by Dini (new)

Dini | 107 comments Update on borrowing books: I've updated books I'm willing to lend in my 'lendable' shelf. If anyone wants to borrow I can bring em during meet ups. :)

Redwin Sitindjak | 13 comments Hello, I am new to this threat.
I just recently move from a big house to Appartement, surely signinificant space comppression. What is compressed almost to non existance is my library/reading room. so... I have about 500 fiction and nonfiction Hardcover books I like to sell. Since I am in love with my books, cause I like to read over and over or reffer them. It's breaking my heart that I have to part with them. But I make a commitment to convert them to digital. hence I have to buy them again.

So why I am writing this?

Question to moderator, can I use this threat to sell my books. Surely someone, in this digital world, still the joy to read a "real" books.

Please comment friends

I just created a folder named Marketplace and Garage Sale. You can create a thread, name it "Redwin's Garage Sale" or something similar, and choose said folder.

right now because it's empty, you will only see it when u are creating new thread. it's under the folder rollout option.

If you still cant find it, you can just create your thread. I'll move it accordingly later.

Anny | 225 comments Reviving this thread ;-)

I recently went through my collection and I found some books I want to swap/sell.

I won't list it here since it's over a hundred books:
https://www.goodreads.com/review/list/20495277-anny?shelf=to-sell-or-swap

Some of them are translated-to-Indonesian version. Since I don't live in Jabodetabek, any request will have to be done via postal service (I prefer JNE myself). Feel free to ask me if you're interested in any of my books.

Thanks!

message 41: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (praesenti) | 43 comments I can vouch for Anny; we did a swap and she sold some as well. The books arrived today (from Java to Bali) and were in a good condition, a bit yellowed but she told me that beforehand. She has quite a collection to select from ;) I found some great ones that I've wanted to read for a while.
