Jemma (jemmapollari) | 11 comments Hi everyone,
I am trying to track down a book I read in approximately 1999-2001. The book title begins with a "P" and it's the name of the main character, a girl. I feel like the name had about 7-8 characters.

She lives on a space station which is attacked by some people, and she (along with a bunch of other girls, at least one of whom is a close friend) are taken to some other space station or another planet. She has a collar put on her that has different coloured lights and is connected to a remote that her captor has. Some of the buttons on the remote make her feel pain or varying degrees, etc, and he always threatens to use the red button and some other colour button if she behaves badly.

(view spoiler)

Other things I remember from the story include that her and the other girls from the space station are all on medication to stop their periods from happening, so when they are captured (and therefore aren't having their normal medication) they start getting their periods and they're all really shocked, because they've never experienced it before.

(view spoiler)

Hope you can help me! I have been trying to remember the name of this book for years. Thank you!

Jemma (jemmapollari) | 11 comments An additional comment: I read this book when I was in about Grade 8-10 (approx 13-15) at school so it would be classified as a young adult sci-fi.

Maybe The Golden One,but I am not sure about it.

The main character is an alien girl named Ampris who gets a "restraint collar"

Mostly when there is a sci-fi book with a female heroine and a collar its a naughty book and not suited for YA readers,as you so clearly remember it being.

When was this approximately? I mean what year.

Mir | 805 comments Maybe something by Sharon Green? I think the women in The Rebel Prince had control collars.

Jemma (jemmapollari) | 11 comments Hi Kagama it was about 1999-2001-ish. Yes it might not have been young adult but it was from my school library, but they did have a lot of older books there too, so you are probably right about the classification. It's not "The Golden One" though, thanks for the suggestion.

Hi Miriam thanks for your suggestion too but it's not The Rebel Prince either. :(

Kagama-the Literaturevixen | 599 comments Just a thought,I didnt really think it was..afterall the girl in "The Golden One" is very alien.

Nor,do I think its one of those naughty books.I dont think a school library would have them. :P

You dont remember anything about the cover? Was it an older book? (like worn)

Jemma (jemmapollari) | 11 comments The cover had the title across it diagonally (I think). It was light-coloured writing on a dark background, probably space with the space station they lived on. I don't remember it being particularly worn. It could have been a few years old though because they had heavy duty sticky plastic covering on the books at my school. It was a paper-back in the large (first release style) size.

The name of the book is something like:
Poldara
Podanna
Polarra
... something that starts with a P, then almost sure it's an O, and pretty sure it ended with an A (but I'm hoping that I'm not mixing it in my head with Polgara from the Belgariad series by David Eddings). It's like the name is just on the edge of my brain, it only I could catch it...!

Kagama-the Literaturevixen | 599 comments Yay! Youre very welcome! :D

I had it on my own to-read list, but didnt connect the pieces until I searched for it a bit.

It got republished and is available at amazon (a bit expensive though) so I am sure you will be able to find a copy. :)

Jemma (jemmapollari) | 11 comments I can't thank you enough!!! This is like an early Christmas present for me! Amazon here I come :D
