Ann | 177 comments Gosh... it's been several years since I read this, but thinking back I'm not sure that most of them seemed to...

SPOILERS

I think perhaps Bilbo does, though. And the leader of the Dwarves - but I can't remember particulars.

Well for sure Bilbo does. He lives in his comfort zone in the Shire for so long. And then all of a sudden Gandolf shows up and kinda makes him go on an adventure. I also think when Bilbo kills Shelob from Mirkwood all by himself he really becomes a different character. Even inspired him to name his sword "Sting". Eventually I think that Bilbo becomes the leaders of the group rather than Thorin.

Ann | 177 comments Great comments, Angie! Very good point about Gandalf taking Bilbo out of his comfort zone (my, Gandalf tends to do that a lot, doesn't he;>)

Catamorandi (wwwgoodreadscomprofilerandi) I agree with you Angie. Bilbo definitely grows. He was not a willing participant at first. But later, as Angie mentioned, he was the leader of the group. He built a lot of self-consciousness and self-confidence as time went on.

Ann | 177 comments Lol! These names are great!!:D

Meghan I think all the heros do (Bilbo, dwarves, humans, etc.). I think that's part of the "message" that is in this book as well as LOTR.
