Kath Middleton | 23860 comments What will top your Christmas tree this year? A £5 Amazon voucher for the winner. It can be something you bought, something you made, something artistic, or something plain daft. Tell us the story behind it. It will help if you can upload a photo. The winner will be judged on artistic interpretation (!) tastefulness, silliness, humour, tugging on the heartstrings or just the whim of the judges. And you can’t bribe them because I don’t know who they are!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Oh.

I should think about getting a tree this year....

message 3: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments I have a shop-bought sparkling butterfly made from peacock feathers on top of my tree.

However in light of this competition, I may make something new. The rest of the tree is decorated in home-decopatched baubles, so I'm sure I could come up with something original for the top.

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Erm... My Xmas tree is not going up until the 24th :(

message 5: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Original is good!

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments A signed photo of Engleburt Humperdink, taken during his 1974 'Eye of the Tiger' tour of working men's clubs in Bolton.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Photo evidence. I never know when you're joking Michael!

message 8: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Lawston (andrewlawston) | 1774 comments I don't have a Christmas tree - not enough space in the flat and I'm going home to the parents' place in the New Forest on the 20th...

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Reminds me when Ollie was a baby... We had so much stuff around in the lounge (along with Lily's big cage and a truckload of toys and kids pushalong-ridealong stuff) that we ended up putting the Xmas tree in Ollie's playpen because we didn't have any room for it !

Not the best home designer idea, but it did the trick nicely !

message 10: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Mine doesn't go up till the weekend before - 22nd or 23rd this year. I can dig out the drunken angel for a photo-shoot though!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I don't decorate my house because I am never here on christmas day. Would it could if I said what I would put on my tree if I had one?

message 12: by Katy (new)

Katy | 2662 comments We have a fairy on the top of our tree.

When my brother was younger we took him to see Santa. Sat him in front of Santa, while i looked around the gift shop for new ornaments for the tree. He took one look at Santa and screamed! Would not go near him! I must admit, Santa was pretty scary, and I do have a picture (that gets brought out every year) of me just about sitting on santa's lap, giving him a sideways look as if to say "i'm watching you". I chose the fairy, and a couple of pretty glass ornaments, such as a little wizard and an icicle and a snowflake. Mum was so stressed she let me buy the ornaments, only to get home to realise I had chosen a fairy for the top of the tree (:

Lorraine | 575 comments We have snow white on on the top of our tree, came as a set with 7 dwarf baubles.

message 14: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments We have a sparkly gold star, it's not the same one the Wise Men followed in the nativity story but it's pretty close, in my opinion.

message 15: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments I'm not quite as wise as the Wise Men in the nativity story, but I'm wise enough to know that Jud's pretty much spot on about her sparkly gold star.

I think 'virtual' is acceptable!

message 17: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Is a black star like a black hole? A kind of Antimatter thing? Like Notsanta (you need to read Will's books to get that reference!)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Antithesis.

Another word that I don't get to use nearly often enough.

message 19: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments Haven't decided yet if I'm going to have a tree, or how it'd be decorated if I do.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments You have to wear black nail varnish and listen to The Cure while putting up the black star!

message 21: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments the Vampire Mechanic is the book Adam. The, as Patti says, antithesis of Santa, Notsanta. Great concept.

message 22: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments I was thinking about making a fairy to go on top of ours this year - now I'll definitely have to make one (once I've finished doing the Christmas cards of course...)

Kay (Golden Girl) | 2193 comments I have added 2 photos of my fairy in tree not on top (think it was last year as not put up tree yet this year)

message 24: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Oh that's cute Kay. I can understand why he wasn't on top though. Sharp intake of breath and all that!

message 25: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments Anyone who knows me will not be surprised to learn that we have traditional Marvin The Martian atop the tree in our house.

message 26: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Photo, photo! You could be in with a chance of this competition too! (Although that kitty will give you a run for your money!)

message 27: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments We only got our tree last year after having a fibre optic one for several years so I don't think we even have anything for ours. I'll make sure to upload a picture on Sunday if we do have it.

When we were younger though we used a paper fairy I 'made' in school. It looked more like a cloud. It was AWFUL. Bless my parents haha

Jonathan Hill | 1599 comments A bird's nest.

Well, I didn't have the heart to move it when I sawed down my neighbour's tree.

message 30: by Joo (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments I'm not sure if mine is a santa or a wizard. His coat is red with white fur trim, he has a long white beard and a staff. But I'm not getting of my backside to go an have a look.

message 31: by Geoffrey (new)

Geoffrey Wakeling | 111 comments I'm putting my Christmas tree up this weekend and I have a small collection of bird ornaments that I put at the very top. However, whether it's the birds or the fact that I've put up an irresistible climbing frame, one of the cats normally ends up at the top....the results of which means that the tree is on the floor in no time!

message 32: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Thanks for the rec, Ignite.

I's been contemplating having my ex impaled on top of the tree, but haven't found one with an adequately strong trunk....

message 33: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Oh, you are naughty! (But I like you!)
If you do it, don't forget we need a picture!

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments With 'Wanted for questionning' inscribed below it, I expect.

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments My tree will go up much nearer Christmas (according to my mother it will get thrown up in a panic on Christmas Eve at midnight) I have to decide where to put it though as I now have a table which won't fit anywhere else where I used to put the tree. It will have an angel on the top - I eventually found her a couple of years ago. I had tried stars, lights & various other decorations in previous years but wan't happy with any of them.
I have special decorations that I have bought on holiday - I try to get a decoration from every place I have been. I also have some that came from my grandma's. Plus I have a snowman that my niece made (I think she might have thrown the glitter on)

Incidentally I think I must have grown, there was a display of Christmas trees in Asda, all stood on a little platform. One of them (it could have been a black one) had a label in front saying "6 foot tree" and it wasn't much taller than me Smiley

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I was in the shopping centre today, and one of the shops was selling a foot-high tre-shaped decoration made of small baubles. It was hollow inside, so could go on top of a tree. But it was supposed to be a mini tree standing on a table or mantlepiece. I love the idea of a tree on top of the tree!

message 37: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments A bit like the 'bird in a bird in a bird' roast you can buy now. A colleague told her son each of the birds had to eat the other whole to enable them to have such a delicacy on their table,as a result he became a vegetarian!
I have an openwork star, another made with pearls and down feathers and on my Winnie the Pooh tree yet another star with Eyeore sporting his usual glum expression.
Further decoration is currently suspended as Phil put his back out yesterday while cleaning the car:@(

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Okay so I just spent the last 3 hrs putting ours up. We bought everything new last year and it turns out we forgot to buy anything for the top. In the meantime I've positioned pimp Santa at the top. I'm thinking of making him a cane :D

I'll show when we get something better.

Excuse the bad photos, we have next to no natural light today /:

message 39: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I can't see them at all Elle :(

message 40: by Elle (last edited Dec 09, 2012 07:29AM) (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments I was just editing them when you were commenting, can you see them now?

Our tree looks naked but we do have pearls and stuff on it as well

message 41: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments I can see them. That Santa looks creepy...

message 42: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Ah yes, now I can. Nasty Santa?

message 43: by Elle (last edited Dec 09, 2012 07:33AM) (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Doesn't it just? It's YEARS old. It's the only relic left over from our decorations when we were very small.

You can't see it's legs but it's mid-jig

(I have big plans for what is replacing it actually)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Hah! I know what is going up on my virtual tree now - this!

This is my best friend Mental Dave, when he was at Uni. I couldn't think of a better place for him...

Only if you have sprayed them with glitter...

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Ignite wrote: "Warning! Smoking may damage your beard!"
