I've read it 3 or 4 times! I loved it and plan another reread right before the movie opens! Sowwy, Heidi... Hope I don't get thrown in the "naughty corner" again! I just wiggled out! Heheh...

Well unlike Twilight of which I read the entire horrible series (YES I should have stopped when I tried to read the first book 3 times and finally had to get the audiobook because the writing was like bad fan fiction and her repeated adjectives drove me batty!) I can not make an informed statement about the Host because I gave up after 100-200 pages.

David wrote: "I wish I could have just one if those millions :P or even a half would be nice!"That is my issue with certain best selling books and why I am so hard on some of them -- when there are a lot better writers out there that are broke and/or struggling while they make millions and get movie contracts I get upset.
I think the problem is that for a lot of people, it doesn't matter how good or bad the writing is. It's about the story. If it's a good story, I don't care about the overuse of certain words, phrases, descriptions. And even if the writing is good, if the story is boring, the book is boring. For example, I suppose that The Casual Vacancy was well-written, but I thought it was boring! Twilight was not well-written, but I got sucked into the story.

Yep, that's pretty spot on. And if you can combine the two, good writing and a unique captivating story, then you get magic. Although even some books like that don't necessarily get nearly the popularity they deserve.

I love this book! I just read it back in December (even though I've owned it for several years) and I really enjoyed it-much more than the Twilight books (and I liked those). Can't wait for the movie!

We shall agree to disagree! I LOVED the Casual Vacancy but I will admit it was a slow build type book. It took me nearly half the book to get into it but the last half really kept me on my toes.

I am my own little "Engine That Could". I think I can I think I can...

Haha, indeed you are, but you've got me reading some books I wouldn't have that ended up being my favorite so keep doing that!

Ugh, I'm still waiting for this book from the library. It was due back March 5. I guess someone doesn't mind some overdue fees.

OOOhhhh... Is The Host coming out on Friday? I have the day off (after a very LOOOONNNNGGGGG and work-crazed month). I think I know what I'm doing Friday afternoon!!!

I'm not sure what day it is but I have to find a way to see it soon! Has anyone seen the new Oz movie? Is it out? I thought it looked pretty cool :)

Heading out to see the movie today. I'm prepared for some "plot point departures" from the book - but I can't wait! Saw OZ - wasn't impressed. Meh. Bad witches weren't bad enough. It seemed like a kids movie. I guess I'm jaded . . .
Has anyone watched the Host besides me?? I enjoyed it, but I felt it left a lot to be desired. Books trumps movie like always :)

David, I doubt it will be able to compare to the book. That's just pretty much a given in book-to-movie adaptations.Kim, I think love triangles are overdone in YA in general, but if you think about it, in the host, it's like a weird square in the form of a triangle, because Ian is in love with Wanda, and Jared is in love with Melanie, and Wanda is in love with both guys, and Melanie is in love with Jared. I think it's a really interesting twist.

Personally I don't mind if it's a close representation of the book, as long as it's a good movie! Like Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings. Or even The Hunger Games :)

I'm waiting to finish my reread before seeing the movie, but I'll let you know what I think when I finally do! lol

Hi. I thought the book was awful. So awful I started a blog and decided to write a review about it. Haha! Here you go check it out! :Phttp://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...
Saw the movie - I think they did the best they could given the time frame. The minor changes were incidental; they didn't really change the story at all.For me, the movie seemed to move really fast. I guess that's because the book goes into so much more detail. I liked the way they resolved Wanderer - similar to the book but more movie-friendly. And I wish they'd stuck with the book ending instead of adapting it the way they did. But it still worked.
All in all, a decent movie that stayed pretty true to the book. It was worth a movie ticket --
Mum won two movie tickets, but my sister wants to see it as well, and it's a really expensive cinema so with the one ticket we have to buy for an extra person, we could buy all three of our tickets at a closer and cheaper cinema. But my sister wants to read the book, so yay! (But give her about two days, she'll give up, lol ;)

Well enjoy either way! You're in Australia right? Movies are so expensive there I was shocked!
