Welcome to Oprah's Book Club 2.0, Gale! That sounds like a great lineup of authors and books. What are you looking forward to with The Twelve Tribes of Hattie?

message 154: by Shan (last edited Dec 06, 2012 03:18PM) (new)

Shan (shanthebookish) My name is Shannon and I'm from Conneaut, Ohio.

It's hard to pick an absolute favorite book or author but these would be my top picks from what I've read this year:

1. The Harry Potter series by JK Rowling
2. White Oleander by Janet Fitch
3. The Reader by Bernard Schlink
4. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith

message 155: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn Moon | 5 comments I have a number of favorite authors and non-fiction reads especially biographies are of great interest to me. Toni Morrison is one my favorite fiction authors and I remember reading 'Song of Solomon' many years ago and it remains a benchmark. In fact, periodically, I return to the world of Milkman Dead and find an unexplored twist in this classic.

I've never participated in a large online book club before, so am looking forward to a new experience and an interesting sounding book. I really enjoy human interest stories

Pamela 1. I'm in Big Sky, Montana

2. Recently, I absolutely loved "The Snow Child" and before that "Shanghai Girls" and "On Gold Mountain" both by Lisa See.

message 161: by AennA (new)

AennA (aennabanana) | 1 comments Hi! I am from Manila, Philippines! :)

I don't have one specific favorite author, but I find Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Coelho, Gaarder and Ishiguro's writings pleasing to my reading senses!

I am very much open to suggestions of good authors. :D

message 162: by Diane (new)

Diane Wright (dianejwright) 1. Where are you joining us from?
Vancouver, BC Canada. Recently from Santa Monica, CA.

2. What is your favorite book or author?
Choosing a favorite is akin to choosing a favorite child, isn't it? I'm an author so it's truly impossible for me to say one story is "better" than the next -- I fall in love so frequently. So long as the work moves me, it's a gem.

message 163: by Amber (new)

Amber (ambermott) My name is Amber. I'm from Hill City, MN. I don't have much time to read right now with two little kids but I try to read for 10 minutes in the morning before the kids get up. Right now I am reading One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp.

message 164: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3 comments My name is Louise and I'm from Ontario, Canada. It's very difficlt to choose a favourite author as I have a few such as: John Shors, Adriana Trigiani, Lynn Austin, Linwood Barclay, Sherri Reynolds, Sara Gruen, Gail Tsukiyama, Lisa See, Erica Spindler, and Thrity Umrigar to name a few.

As far as favourite books go, some examples would be: All of John Shors novels; The Pillars of the Earth (Ken Follett); World Without End (Ken Follett); Memoirs of a Geisha (Arthur Golden); The Red Tent (Anita Diamant); Snow Flower and The Secret Fan (Lisa See); All of Gail Tsukiyama`s novels; The Healing (Jonathan Odell); Daughter`s Who Walk This Path (Yejidie Kilanko); and The Housemaid`s Daughter (Barbara Mutch) to once again, name a `few`. lol

message 168: by Katherine (new)

Katherine (bookienerd86) | 4 comments Hi Everyone, my name is Katie Boring. I'm an avid reader. I currently am going to school to become a librarian and writer and teacher. I work part-time and the rest of the time I am at home reading or cleaning my folks house and taking care of our dogs. Also I go to school online so I dont have to be far from my friends and family.

My favorite author would have to be any of the Bronte sisters. I currently reside in Missouri. The reason why I chose them is because I have lived in many of there stories personally just in an new century and still face these problems daily. Basically I can relate to them so much it would shock people.
