Jeff MacLeod Paschakis Hello. My name is Jeff. I would love to say I have a favorite book or author but I don't. Anybody feel like in spirit they are a reader but don't nearly get around to reading as much as they would like? I'm trying to change this about myself and reconnect to the many worlds of literature. Happy to be apart of the Oprah book club as incentive to do so!

message 1911: by Bonbon (new)

Bonbon | 3 comments Hi to all my fellow book lovers! My name is Bonnie, this is my 2nd time belonging to Oprah's Book Club. The first time years ago resulted in meeting a woman who is one of my closest friends. I love reading books of all genres, mostly fiction, but open to all. A few of my favorite authors include Elizabeth Berg, Anna Quindlen, Catherine Ryan Hyde, Wally Lamb, and the late, wonderful Maeve Binchy. So hard to say favorite books, but those written by the listed, also 'Gone, Girl'. Actually, add Gillian Flynn to my list of favorites. After 'Gone, Girl', I read all of her other books which did not disappoint. Stephan King holds a place in my heart also; his first offerings, such as 'Carrie', ' The Shining', 'Cujo', 'Salem's Lot', and others.

My name is Michael William AngelOh and I have lived on the Northshore of Oahu, Hawaii for some thirty-five years. I am a Studio Musician and an Author of a new publication on my own personal Near Death Experience or NDE.
I have a question for anyone who might know the answer and that is, I see comments which post links to Books in this discussion group and yet I see in the comment area below it states; "Any self-promotion posts will be removed from this group". Does this mean we are not permitted to post links to our own Books or Publishers websites..?
Thank you kindly in advance my friends...

A. White | 18 comments Hello, my name is Alma. I have already introduced myself earlier. A friend of mine's sent me a book I found interesting enough to mention here, It's called the "Wedding Gift." Perhaps it has already been read here but I'm just now adding it to my books to read.

The Wedding Gift Paperback – March 31, 2015
by Marlen Suyapa Bodden

In 1852, when prestigious Alabama plantation owner Cornelius Allen gives his daughter Clarissa's hand in marriage, she takes with her a gift: Sarah―her slave and her half-sister. Raised by an educated mother, Clarissa is not the proper Southern belle she appears to be, with ambitions of loving whom she chooses. Sarah equally hides behind the façade of being a docile house slave as she plots to escape. Both women bring these tumultuous secrets and desires with them to their new home, igniting events that spiral into a tale beyond what you ever imagined possible. Told through the alternating viewpoints of Sarah and Theodora Allen, Cornelius' wife, Marlen Suyapa Bodden's The Wedding Gift is an intimate portrait of slavery and the 19th Century South that will leave readers breathless. The Wedding Gift

Jack O'Donnell | 4 comments Jack O'Donnell (author, Lily Poole) and my favourite author is Ralph Glasser, Growing Up in the Gorbals. As a child he understood the notion that there were an infinite number of infinites. And he attended a lecture at the University of Glasgow in which Einstein explained his theory of relativity. He was one of the few to understand what he was saying, even though he was an adolescent, dirt poor and unlikely to ever afford any kind of education. But this isn't chocolate book, but gritty real life.

message 1937: by Teressa (new)

Teressa Aliberti | 1 comments Hi everyone! My name is Teressa and I live in Seattle. I am an avid reader and am known to read two to three books at a time. While I will always love the physical bound pages of a book, I do love the convenience of the e-readers so I do not have to carry the weight of the many books that I am reading. If given the opportunity, I could sit and read day & night and only stop for the necessities that would bring me back to the real world.

My all time favorite book is Sadako and the thousand paper cranes by Eleanor Coerr and have a tattoo of a crane to remind me of how that one book that resonated with me and gave the internal voice the understanding that it was seeking.

I love a good mystery/thriller and romance, but if the topic interests me and the writing is good, I will pick up the book and see where the author is going to take me next.

I take the bus everywhere & everyday so my go to authors are JA Jance, James Patterson & Janet Evanovich just to name a few!

I look forward to meeting and reading with everyone here!

--- Teressa

Vaseem Khan (vaseemkhan) | 1 comments Hi all

Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I am an author based in London and avid reader. My favourite author is Michael Connolly who write the Harry Bosch series. I always have 3 to 4 books on the go and have done since I was a kid. At present Im reading Game of Thrones, A Little Life, and a crime book called A Rising Man, so all sorts of genres. As an author I write a light-hearted crime series set in India, for fans of The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency series. The first book in my series The Unexpected Inheritance of Inspector Chopra is a Times Saturday bestseller, Waterstones Book Club selection and Amazon Best Debut pick. This 2015 hit introduces readers to Inspector Ashwin Chopra of the Mumbai police as he moves through the turbulent, colourful fabric of modern Indian society in search of a murderer, whilst simultaneously coming to grips with the surreal dilemma of caring for a one-year-old baby elephant that has been sent into his care. “Endearing and gripping” ~ The Sunday Times; “Colour and atmosphere flows out of every page” ~ The Daily Express; “Utterly charming” ~ The Guardian

The Unexpected Inheritance of Inspector Chopra (Baby Ganesh Agency Investigation #1) by Vaseem Khan

The Unexpected Inheritance of Inspector Chopra

Ive been writing all summer - busy working on the third in the series - but managing to read a lot too. Lot of domestic noir - most of which, sadly, isn't that good. But I just read the one that started it all - Gone Girl - and thought it was terrific. So definitely a recommend from me.

Vaseem, London
