Karl Drobnic | 66 comments I noticed yesterday that several of the late Louis Trimble's novels are available on Goodreads. City Machine by Louis Trimble He was a good friend of mine who wrote about eighty books. I've posted some memories of how "The City Machine" became, quite accidentally, a big hit in Soviet Europe during the Cold War. It amused Louis greatly...quite a lesson for writers in never knowing when lightening will strike.

Welcome Jessica! I have been on Goodreads since March. To be honest, I had never heard of it. Now, of course, I had heard of Oprah and her book club but didn't get the connection. My publisher suggested that I join Goodreads and Library Thing in order to promote my nove, "The Royal Rose of Alabama, The Gold Crown Pendant Affair." Wow, after joining I was sad that I didn't know of it earlier. For sure from now on, given time, I will put every book I read on my shelf for future reference as I never kept a list of my books before...neither while doing research or leisure reading. Hope you enjoy Goodreads as much as I do. I haven't delved into Library Thing other than joining yet, for lack of time.

Debbie, you sound a lot like me. Either a crossword puzzle or two or a book accompanies me everywhere. You enjoy the same writers that are my choice. Hope to find some time late this evening to get into a good book.

Hi Karl, so much to read and so little time, but, I certainly am interested in reading one of Trimble's novels. I am amazed that one person could turn out eighty books. Awesome! Someone needs to write his memoirs....maybe you! lol

In terms of volume, Louis Trimble is in the company of writers like Georges Simenon (Inspector Maigret novels) and Balzac, writers who would finish one novel at lunch and start another after dinner. Louis wrote to make a living. Later in life, he became a respected scholar. As for writing his memoirs, that's a big job, but I shared a Cold War story about him at "The City Machine...An Accidental Marxist" . I think you'll find it entertaining as an example of how we never know how others are going to perceive us.

Karynne Summars (goodreadscomkarynne_summars) | 1 comments Desperate Pursuit in Venice (#1) by Karynne Summars
Hi I am Karynne,
I just joined this group. I am looking forward to interesting posts and interactions. I am the author of a romance/suspense/family drama novel entitled "Desperate Pursuit in Venice". I am currently running an International Giveaway on GR for the book, which will also have a sequel coming out later this year. The eBook for part 1 should be available mid July on most eReaders. It is an emotionally touching story with sensuous romance scenes, but unlike the typical erotic romance novel, mine does not contain profanity or vulgar language and the scenes are tastefully presented in the context of two people who are committed to and love each other rather than just seeking a sexual relationship. There are many twists and turns for the captivating characters.

My official website is www.karynnesummars.com. I have installed the GR widget so that readers can enter the giveaway directly from there if they wish. The website also has beautiful music videos, which reader can relate to while enjoying the novel.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to introduce myself, my work, and be part of this group.

I'm Stephanie and I, like you, have a ferocious appetite for books, particularly books of the memoir genre. I just finished reading Domenica Ruta's With Or Without You. Fabulous portrayal for dysfunction between mother and daughter.

Marian Powell | 27 comments Welcome to Goodreads, Marisa. I was not aware of Goodreads until my publisher suggested that I put my novel on it. Oh, how I wish I had known of it while researching for my book! The fact that you can list ever book that you can remember reading and those that you want to read or need to read, sure keeps you organized. There they are on your shelf to go back to at anytime and if you have left a review even the better as you will know if you will need it again at some time. I did so much research for my historical novel that starts in London and ends in Alabama right before our country was stormed by a war between the states. So much went on in that Victorian era. The name of my novel is The Royal Rose of Alabama, The Gold Crown Pendant affair and involves romance, mystery, intrigue and history. Check it out if you like that kind of book. Lots of luch and enjoy the Goodreads. Marian

Saul Weber (saulweber) | 1 comments As an author with award winning children's I'm looking at ways to help raise funds for various things. This is my latest one I'm asking everyone to

HELP ME DONATE !!!

A few months ago we all read about the Animal Shelter in Collinsville, Oklahoma which had received $188,000 in error. http://abcnews.go.com/Business/hefty-...

I wanted to help them regain those funds. Due to schedules and other factor I finally became able to finalize the details of my donating 10% of the royalties I receive from the sale of my award winning children's book entitled "A Lesson My Cat Taught Me" during the month of July with Susan Babbitt who was named in the above article.

The book got named a runner-up in the 2011 Sharp Writ Awards - Children's Books Category. The contest had been organized by Smart Book Lovers, the members of which all belong to MENSA and other Hi IQ groups [meaning the judges in my book's category all belong to these same groups.]

Nadia Lynn (miskyeblue) | 2 comments Hi! I'm Nadia from California, though for the time being I'm a vagabond by choice (and circumstance, though I would have chosen it anyways) so I do not have a specific location, just a general area. I'm an avid reader and student though I'm taking a year off to explore the world and myself (and have more time to read). It's hard to say what my favorite books are, but I will always have a place in my heart for anything Steinbeck or Emerson, Harry Potter, and the Secret Life of Bees. Though I'm currently reading Wild by Cheryl Strayed and I really am loving it, too! It reminds me a lot of myself and my plans for this year off.

Leza Lowitz (ninjagrrl) Hi Everyone, I'm writing from Tokyo. I love reading everything from literary fiction to poetry to Young Adult novels, especially authors who turn language around -- Toni Morrison and Barbara Kingsolver, to name a few. My debut YA novel, "Jet Black and the Ninja Wind," about the last female ninja in the world, will be out in October. It's about Japan's indigenous Emishi tribes and their fight to save their land. The Navajo Code Talkers also play an important role. The two tribes come together to save an ancient treasure and keep the past alive. Dog-lovers Bonus: a ninja Akita helps save the day. Mschell (authormschell) | 2 comments Hi I have a new project called A LOVE SONG it started out as a poem, but after people read it and kept saying they wanted more I've continued to keep it going, no one knows how this thing will end. Here's how it all started--A LOVE SONG

(Yes, they know each other)

She wrote this man a love song, pouring out her heart
with trembling fingers and a million n one thoughts
she even used the "L word" which wasnt easy to do
for fear of a busted up heart, leaving it black and blue
she wrote about the future and possibly becoming his wife
scratched it out and changed it up and wrote about her life
she wrote about the good times and all the fun they had
she wrote about how the good times definately outweighted the bad
she wrote about being best friends, then she thought this can never be
they did kindergarten time together and now their both 23
she handed him the lovesong and was ready to runaway
he said, wait, where are you going, I need for you to stay
so she stood there frozen in time, one eye closed and a raised eyebrow
he read the words straight-faced, then smiled and just said WOW!

It's tough to choose a favorite book or author, but I'd have to say for both that "Wooden" (by John Wooden) is near the top. Wooden's advice and outlook is timeless and applicable to anyone and throughout life. It's a book you can pick up again and again and gather some new wisdom from it each time.

Summer Lovin
The four season of life
As I sit on the back patio watching this summer morning’s sunrise, I can only marvel over the radiant rays breaking through the leaves in the forest setting aglow the warm brown fur of a doe and its two fawns. A hummingbird buzzes by and hovers over a bell shaped blossom sucking out the sweet nectar. A couple of Monarchs and a Swallowtail fluttering around the assortment of flowers stretching their blossoms towards the sun while a Praying Mantis bathes in the dew covered grass. Rogers and Hammerstein’s music comes to my mind. Oh what a beautiful morning, oh what a beautiful day. Soon, the minutes, filled with the hustle and bustle of the day, flees one by one until the beauty of the sunset will complete the day. Then the days will flee into the seasons and the seasons into the years....

Recently I purchased the 1001 books to read before you die and discovered I was woefully behind the curve. So I decided I would attempt to do just as the book has instructed. I must say I have read some that I would likely never had picked to read on my own and have discovered some true literary treasures. It may take a life time to accomplish but I will give it the ole Girl Scout try. And just so you know, I will be really pissed if I die after read number 1000.
