Those are great choices, Tiffany. We think you're really going to love The Twelve Tribes of Hattie as author Ayana Mathis has a similar writing style to Toni Morrison.

Lisa (libby78) | 2 comments Hi all, I'm from Christchurch, New Zealand.
I have a huge amount of books I'm trying to get read.... It's a slow process. So to try and speed things up I have a 100 page challenge.... If I'm not enjoying a book by the time I reach 100 pages I stop reading. Sometimes I don't even make it to 100 pages. Life is too short to read bad fiction.

message 470: by Jennie (new)

Jennie (hornplayr) Hi everyone. My name is Jennie. I live in Boise, Idaho, where I work in the Department of Music at Boise State University, and am a free-lance French hornist. I love to read. Lately, I discovered YA author Neal Shusterman, and am attempting to read everything he has written. If you'd like to explore his books, I recommend starting with either "Unwind" or "Bruiser," though I've loved them all so far. I also have been reading a lot of football-themed books lately, both fiction and non-fiction.
I don't think I could pick one top author, but some of my favorites are the late Anne McCaffrey and J. A. Jance. I've also loved all of Sue Grafton's alphabet series, and have re-read "To Kill A Mockingbird" and "Gone With the Wind" so many times that I've lost count.
Last year, I participated in the first World Book Night, and gave out free copies of Sue Grafton's "Q is for Quarry" to students at the University. This is a great program. I encourage you to Google World Book Night and see this year's selections, and apply to be a giver. I had read most of last year's selections, but not as many of this year's, so those books are all on my 2013 reading list.
I've enjoyed so many of Oprah's Book Club selections that I jumped at the chance to join the 2.0 version. I'm really looking forward to reading "The Twelve Tribes of Hattie," and discussing it with you all.
