OH!!! Sally, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I had never noticed that "mark as all read" button before, and have actually clicked on thread after thread hanging around just to make them go away. Yay!!!
The "mark all as read" is a brand new feature. YEAH!
Okay, I was way too excited about this... I gotta get a life.
It isn't working for me... I clicked "mark all as read" but they still show the little red words telling me how many unread posts there are.

You can designate your top friends, Sally, and then on the home page, click on the tab at the top to just see what they are saying.

Oh, I forgot to mention this earlier...every now and then GR has weird blips. Tadpole pointed one out to me...sometimes books you reviewed months ago pop up on your update feeds. This just happened, I think...Jackie reviewed some vampire novel a long time ago but it popped up on my update feed recently. I added it to my "to read" shelf then noticed she had reviewed it months back. Weird.
I had that same thing happen - On Beauty & Oscar Wao came to visit. It happens even more often on my Facebook/GR feed. That's always telling people I'm reading books I finished months ago.
Yeah, I noticed that, too. Books my top friends had read a year ago were suddenly on my update feed. I wonder if that happens when the superlibrarians update the books?
RA, maybe Jackie edited her review. I saw a grammatical error on one of mine. When I fixed it, it showed up on my update feed again.
think i will make my daughter my only top friend. is there a way she can see that? that would make her feel special
Nope, I don't know if I'm a top friend on anyone's profile. I think it's for the update feed only.

Did you?I think you can tell who people's top friends are, if they have any, because they consistently show up at the top of the list, the one with the pictures, on the right, on people's profiles, even if they're not online. I think. I could be wrong.
I think the only way I knoe if I'm someone's top friend is if they comment on a lot of my reviews/status updates. I must be showing up on their update feed.

If you look on their profile and see yourself high on their friends list, then you probably are.
I thought friends were listed on profile pages in the order of last online. I could be wrong about that, though.
Yeah, they are, Jacks, but I think top friends go to the top...for example, a top friend who is not online gets precedence over someone who is online but not a top friend. But like I said, I could be wrong. Let me experiment with it and see what happens.
Your top friends show up on your profile with priority over non-top friends, I think.
I think you might be right, because some of you are online but not in my top friends (sorry, you probably have your group posts show up in your update feed and I hate that) so you're not showing up on my profile.

Just make her your only top friend, and that should happen.
great idea larryi JUST figured out how to click the red new thing on each thread and not have to go through all the old ones to get to the new ones :)
So when did we get the ability to add more pictures to our profiles? I just noticed a couple minutes ago (and added a picture of the gasmask atop my bookcase.)

I never heard of Flock. I use Opera and have not seen that effect you mention.
It's an open source browser. Very smooth. Better than IE. Seldom crashes or causes any problems at all.http://www.opera.com/download/

I think those old reviews come up when there's a new comment on them. I've had a whole slew lately and when I checked, yep, after 6 months of silence, there's a new comment.I use Firefox, is Opera better?

I just recently discovered the "mark all as read" option in the unread thread folder. Thank god. Every time someone sometime had modified a comment on a thread it was hanging around among the unreads. I was relieved to find that button. Tidy folders = bliss.
