In addition to the nifty add book/author link above the text box, what other features of GR do you especially enjoy?

I just recently discovered the "mark all as read" option in the unread thread folder. Thank god. Every time someone sometime had modified a comment on a thread it was hanging around among the unreads. I was relieved to find that button. Tidy folders = bliss.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments OH!!! Sally, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I had never noticed that "mark as all read" button before, and have actually clicked on thread after thread hanging around just to make them go away.
Yay!!!

message 3: by Sandi (new)

Sandi (sandikal) The "mark all as read" is a brand new feature. YEAH!

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Okay, I was way too excited about this... I gotta get a life.

message 5: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (songgirl7) It isn't working for me... I clicked "mark all as read" but they still show the little red words telling me how many unread posts there are.

You know how on Facebook you can "turn down the volume" on certain people? I wish you could do that on the GR home page.

message 7: by Jackie "the Librarian" (last edited Mar 19, 2009 09:01PM) (new)

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments You can designate your top friends, Sally, and then on the home page, click on the tab at the top to just see what they are saying.

man, Jackie, I'd like to clone you and keep you nearby. Thanks!

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Happy to help!

P.S. You're my first "top friend."

Amen, sister.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Aww, thanks guys! I love you, too!

message 13: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments will all this cloning turn out like Multiplicity?

message 14: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Oh, I forgot to mention this earlier...every now and then GR has weird blips. Tadpole pointed one out to me...sometimes books you reviewed months ago pop up on your update feeds. This just happened, I think...Jackie reviewed some vampire novel a long time ago but it popped up on my update feed recently. I added it to my "to read" shelf then noticed she had reviewed it months back. Weird.

message 15: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I had that same thing happen - On Beauty & Oscar Wao came to visit.
It happens even more often on my Facebook/GR feed. That's always telling people I'm reading books I finished months ago.

message 16: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (songgirl7) Yeah, I noticed that, too. Books my top friends had read a year ago were suddenly on my update feed. I wonder if that happens when the superlibrarians update the books?

message 17: by Dave (new)

Dave Russell RA, maybe Jackie edited her review. I saw a grammatical error on one of mine. When I fixed it, it showed up on my update feed again.

message 18: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments think i will make my daughter my only top friend. is there a way she can see that? that would make her feel special

message 19: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (songgirl7) Nope, I don't know if I'm a top friend on anyone's profile. I think it's for the update feed only.

message 20: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Hm...good point, Dave...or maybe she changed the star rating...Jacks? Did you?

I think you can tell who people's top friends are, if they have any, because they consistently show up at the top of the list, the one with the pictures, on the right, on people's profiles, even if they're not online. I think. I could be wrong.

message 21: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (songgirl7) I think the only way I knoe if I'm someone's top friend is if they comment on a lot of my reviews/status updates. I must be showing up on their update feed.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I didn't make any changes to that vampire book review, RA. I don't know why it popped up. I was surprised to see it come up again, too.

It was this book, Midnight Blue The Sonja Blue Collection,
if you're curious. Midnight Blue The Sonja Blue Collection by Nancy A. Collins

message 23: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) If you look on their profile and see yourself high on their friends list, then you probably are.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I thought friends were listed on profile pages in the order of last online. I could be wrong about that, though.

message 25: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments so are we saying no i can't do it?

message 26: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Yeah, they are, Jacks, but I think top friends go to the top...for example, a top friend who is not online gets precedence over someone who is online but not a top friend. But like I said, I could be wrong. Let me experiment with it and see what happens.

message 27: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Your top friends show up on your profile with priority over non-top friends, I think.

message 28: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (songgirl7) I think you might be right, because some of you are online but not in my top friends (sorry, you probably have your group posts show up in your update feed and I hate that) so you're not showing up on my profile.

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
You guys are being very scientific about all this.

message 30: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments yeah, i just wanted to have my daughter at the top of the list and for her to see it. magically

message 31: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Just make her your only top friend, and that should happen.

message 32: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments great idea larry

i JUST figured out how to click the red new thing on each thread and not have to go through all the old ones to get to the new ones :)

message 33: by Dan (new)

Dan Schwent (akagunslinger) So when did we get the ability to add more pictures to our profiles? I just noticed a couple minutes ago (and added a picture of the gasmask atop my bookcase.)

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Wednesday, Dan.

Does anyone else ever have that annoying thing where the GR page jumps right before/after you try to click somewhere, so you have to click again?

That drives me so bat-wild.

message 36: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) What browser are you using?

message 37: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
Flock.

It's ok Sally go ahead and use a real swear word.

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
No, no, Jim: I'm using Flock! "The Social Web Browser"!

(it weirds me out that browsers now not only have brand names, but catch phrases. when did that begin?)

message 40: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I never heard of Flock. I use Opera and have not seen that effect you mention.

message 41: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
What's Opera?

message 42: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) It's an open source browser. Very smooth. Better than IE. Seldom crashes or causes any problems at all.

http://www.opera.com/download/

Try it. You'll like it.

message 43: by Lori (new)

Lori I think those old reviews come up when there's a new comment on them. I've had a whole slew lately and when I checked, yep, after 6 months of silence, there's a new comment.

I use Firefox, is Opera better?

message 44: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I like it better.
