LTJ (ltj81) | 379 comments @Arushi: Welcome and very cool! I'm so glad you're also a fellow Constant Reader! I'm the same way as I've yet to read The Stand but will probably this summer. My favorite is IT :-D

I just sent you a friend request!

message 4855: by Kellie (new)

Kellie | 106 comments Welcome to the group Arushi! The Stand is also one of my top favourites of his. I read it for the first time when we went into our first covid lockdown which I think made it even more terrifying for me. It is definitely one of his best.

Derek | 1 comments Hello I am new to Stephen king and I would love to discuss and hear recommendations from all of you!!

message 4857: by Julia (new)

Julia | 224 comments Hello Derek, welcome to the group..!! :)
My first recommendation is The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. It's not very long but I found it hard to put down.
- Sleeping Beauties (co-wrote with his son).
- Rose Madder is another favourite of mine..
- For a series of books (and a longer read) I would recommend The Dark Tower series, it's mind blowing..!!

The ones I've chosen aren't really 'horror' books but nevertheless are outstanding in their own way.
There are so many to choose from so dive in and enjoy yourself..!!

Happy reading :-)

Melanie Bibb | 4 comments Hi everyone! I haven't read King's books since I tried to read Pet Sematary when I was a kid and I stayed away from King after that haha xD I regret it though, I want to read all his books now! and I'm starting with Under the Dome as soon as it comes in the mail, in a couple days. I'm so excited to start I can't wait!

message 4863: by LTJ (new)

LTJ (ltj81) | 379 comments @Melanie: Welcome and wow, look at that! LoL that's okay, now you can enjoy all his classics as an adult :-D

Happy reading with Under the Dome, I've yet to read it but will one of these days. Enjoy!

Julia | 224 comments Welcome Melanie. You have a lot of books to catch up on and I hope you get a lot of joy from them..!!
I really liked Under The Dome although it has been a long time since I read it. Shame about the TV series. What a disappointment nothing like the book what a surprise (not)..!! :)

message 4867: by Melanie (new)

Melanie Bibb | 4 comments Thank you so much Julia! Yes the TV series was terrible especially the 2nd season. I didn't even read the book and I knew that was awful writing lol. But I'm so happy to know the book is nothing like the series! I saw a few other reviews that said that and that's what motivated me to want to read it.

Amy Lizzio | 3 comments Hello all! I'm an avid reader, lover of animals and music from Pennsylvania. I have been reading Stephen King for years now. I've enjoyed many of his books, at this time I'd say The Stand, The Shining and Dreamcatcher are my top 3 favs. I'm planning to start Under the Dome soon. Happy to have found this group and get to see your thoughts and recommendations.

message 4875: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 35 comments hi everyone, newish to goodreads in general I've read stephen king for years though I'm a bit of a rereader so I've set myself the challenge of reading 50 new books before I can reread, the only king books I have not read is the bachman books, the talisman/blackhouse and joyland and later. currently on blaze so wondering which in that list I should try after?

message 4876: by Erin (new)

Erin (ems84) | 2669 comments Welcome Amy and Sarah

message 4877: by LTJ (new)

LTJ (ltj81) | 379 comments @Sarah: Welcome, my friend! This group rocks and wow, same here! I also try my best to hit 50 books a year so that's definitely a solid goal :-)

I recently finally read Joyland and read Later the day it came out. I'd say start with those since they're not too large and I thought they were genuine pageturners.

Happy reading!

message 4878: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 35 comments @LTJ thanks so much, I think I'll start there just waiting on them arriving in the post

Amy Staples (amystaples) | 2 comments Hello Everyone!

I love reading and Stephen King. My favourite Stephen King book is Insomnia. I would love to eventually read all of the books he has written.

I have honestly only read 7 King books, but I am keen to dive in more.

I am going to read the dark tower series next. I cannot wait.

message 4883: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 35 comments @amy staples hi it's not often to see insomnia as someone's favourite, I love insomnia as well, it's in my top 2 stephen king books

message 4885: by LTJ (new)

LTJ (ltj81) | 379 comments @Amy: Welcome and very awesome! Mine is IT and I've yet to read Insomnia but do have it on my TBR so I'll definitely get to it at some point this year.

I also haven't read The Dark Tower series but I'm thinking that might be what I read in November or something. LoL it's many tomes but I know a lot of Constant Readers consider it his BEST work and that speaks volumes to me :-)

I'm looking forward to you reading these and seeing your reaction as you go. I'm not sure this is a majority opinion, but I think the first (which a lot of people have to force themselves through to get to the rest) was King writing for himself, and as the story progresses along with his honing of his talent, they begin to be more and more geared toward us Constant Readers, until after his accident when they become a bit more personal again.

I've journeyed to the Tower so many times over the years that's it's fun to see other's journey.

message 4888: by Krissy (new)

Krissy | 1 comments Hi. my mom started me on the King books when I was eleven. my favorites are The Dark Towers series, The Talisman, The Stand, Under the Dome, IT and most others.

message 4889: by Amy Lizzio (new)

Amy Lizzio | 3 comments @LTJ Thanks! Carrie is awesome too. I like so many of his books but I've read the Shining & the Stand twice. I'm very excited to be in this group. I started Under The Dome today, it may take me some time but I quickly discovered that its going to be hard to put down.

message 4890: by Amy Lizzio (new)

Amy Lizzio | 3 comments @Kellie I'm only 60 pages into Under The Dome but I'm enjoying it already! I'll be sure to put Joyland on my TBR list. Thanks for the recommendation.

message 4891: by LTJ (new)

LTJ (ltj81) | 379 comments @Kandice: Thank you, my friend! That's some great insight as I appreciate it and yeah, I think that might be my November/December project. LOL it's a TON of books so I know it's going to take me a while but I'd love to conquer it after I read Holly :-)

That's so awesome and yeah, everyone keeps telling me to read The Dark Tower as I'd love it and well, that time should hopefully come this year!

message 4892: by LTJ (new)

LTJ (ltj81) | 379 comments @Krissy: Hello! Wow, that's so awesome as your Mom rules for doing that! I love IT the most out of your list and have yet to read the others but I will get there eventually :-D
