Kandice | 4387 comments Welcome everyone!

As far as shower curtains, Psycho and The Shining go, when I am in the shower I can't put both hands up, even when washing my hair. I ALWAYS have one arm on my middle because of Psycho. It's completely subconscious now, but it's been that way for decades.

There's a pretty awful bathroom scene in Scarface as well!

Scarface is one of my favorite movies! But I feel pretty safe from that since I'm not a drug dealer...;-)

Denise Denner | 3 comments Hello, everyone. I’m returning to Goodreads after a long time away. I have always been an avid reader but not so good at staying up with the group. I have a lot more time available now and look forward to reading and sharing. I’m 68 yrs old and have been a Stephen King follower since the day I picked up Carrie when it was published. Somehow in the years of chasing my children I missed The Talisman and Black House ( even though I own both) so I’m excited to start reading them. Happy New Year!

message 4662: by LTJ (new)

LTJ (ltj81) | 379 comments @Julie: Welcome and very awesome! Yeah, local book clubs are hard these days as I was unable to find any as well where I live in New York. I'm glad you found this group, it rocks :-D

I live in Missouri! I moved here from California a little over a year ago and have been trying to start an in-person book club, but have had no takers. My in-person book club from CA started Zoom during Covid, so I still participate, but there's just something magical about being together in real life. Good luck!

Victoria (victoriarobbins) | 2 comments Hi, I'm Vicky and from the UK. I've been on Goodreads since 2015 but have been reading Stephen King longer than that. I first read Under the Dome as a teenager and fell in love. My dad also loves him so we bond a lot over his works. Planning this and next year to get through all of his major novels.

message 4670: by LTJ (new)

LTJ (ltj81) | 379 comments @Victoria: Welcome as that's so awesome! I never read Under the Dome but plan to one of these days. My first King novel was "IT" and it was a huge catalyst to read more of his work, see the movie adaptations, and become a huge horror enthusiast :-)

It's probably not his best, but it holds a very special place in my heart. I love IT as well! I'm pretty sure that's where most people start and it's deffo a good one!

LTJ (ltj81) | 379 comments @Victoria: That's so awesome! LoL I'll never forget reading "Misery" for the first time and how it blew me away. Also can't forget 'Salem's Lot...

message 4677: by Cameron (new)

Cameron Doran Hey all! Recently got back into reading in April of last year and picked up some of King’s writing for the first time thereafter. I have since worked through some of his classics as well as his more recent novels, and in the last month or so, have started my first trip through the Dark Tower series and am loving every minute of it! Super excited to be a part of a like minded community, and above all, a group of people with as big a passion for reading as I have rekindled in the past year!

message 4678: by Allie (new)

Allie (coversandcats) Hi everyone, I'm Allie! Long time book worm and wanting to keep up more with Goodreads this year. I've always loved SK! I have most recently read The Stand and The Long Walk over this last summer but Misery is my favorite that I have read of his so far. Looking forward to chatting and checking more of his books off my list.

LTJ (ltj81) | 379 comments @Cameron: Welcome as that's so awesome! I'm saving the Dark Tower series as a whole likely sometime in the Spring. Glad you're here as this group is amazing :-)

can anyone tell me which is worthwhile -Fairy Tale or The Stand?

message 4684: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments Affan Tasnem Hemal wrote: "can anyone tell me which is worthwhile -Fairy Tale or The Stand?"

Both. FT is uplifting, while dramatic, The Stand is more of a downer and especially relevant right now. Depends on what you are in the mood for.

Erin (ems84) | 2669 comments Affan Tasnem Hemal wrote: "can anyone tell me which is worthwhile -Fairy Tale or The Stand?"

I second what Kandice said, you can't go wrong with either of them.

The Stand is one of my favorites by King. I am currently reading Fairy Tale and I am really enjoying the story so far.

message 4686: by Aisling (new)

Aisling | 1 comments Hello,

My name is Aisling, from Ireland. I have been a King fan for years. My favourite so far is The Stand. I love a good post apocalyptic story. It’s one I’ve read or listened to on audio several times. I still have so many of his books to read. Hoping to tick off a few more this year. Nice to meet you all.

Diamond Lightfoot (diamondlightfoot) Affan Tasnem Hemal wrote: "can anyone tell me which is worthwhile -Fairy Tale or The Stand?"

Both are great! The Stand is a classic and I'm betting Fairy Tale will be, too.

message 4688: by LTJ (new)

LTJ (ltj81) | 379 comments @Aisling: Welcome, my friend! I've always wanted to visit Ireland, one of these days for sure. I've yet to read The Stand but it's on my TBR and I plan to tackle that this year. I just finished "Cell" and loved it :-)

Looking forward to future discussions with you on all things SK!

Welcome, Aisling. Ireland looks like such a beautiful country. The Stand just might be my favorite King book of all of them.

Erika Roberts | 1 comments Hi everyone! I’m Erika. I joined GR about a year ago and honestly wasn’t much of a reader until last year. I found my genre and now can’t get enough of it! My brother loved reading Stephen King books and now I just started reading my first one - Later. Just pick one that interested me and was available now through my library :)

Hi Mathilde. Carrie was definitely a great read. It is a classic, I read it when it came out and I was in high school. LOL, yes I am THAT old. Pet Cemetary was also a great read. I see LTJ has already suggested - some equally good titles.

I would add:

The Stand
The Shining
If It Bleeds It Leads

Happy Reading
