Jolyne Kujoh | 6 comments Hi! I'm Thalia! I've been a fan of Stephen King since I was about 10, when I picked up Rose Madder. Since then I've collected all but about 10 of his novels (discounting reprints) and I'm currently rereading all of them!

I don't have a favorite right now though, who's to say which I still like and which I don't :)
I'm CERTAINLY impressed by the amount of books he has which are "good" considering the sheer volume of his works.

He's not my all time favorite author (that goes to James Joyce) but he's the perfect balance for when I don't feel like tying my brain into a knot.

message 4505: by LTJ (new)

LTJ (ltj81) | 379 comments @Thalia: Welcome and that's pretty cool! I have yet to read Rose Madder but it's on my TBR. Oh for sure, King is just the best of the best in my opinion. My goal is to read every single thing he's written at least once :-D

message 4506: by Jolyne (new)

Jolyne Kujoh | 6 comments It's surprisingly non-exhausting, although I recommend skipping around rather than reading in chronological order. That way certain..trends...don't stick out as much.

message 4507: by LTJ (new)

LTJ (ltj81) | 379 comments @Thalia: I know what you mean and thanks for the insight! I also want to finally read the entire "Dark Tower" series he wrote, same with the whole Gwendy's Button trilogy. LoL so many books, such little time, eh?

Derek Sheahan Hello All! My name is Derek and I live in Fresno, California. Stephen King was the first author I read when I was little, when I picked up 'Salem's Lot, it was my favorite book when I picked it up in 1988, and it continues to be my favorite book. Im taking a journey and re-reading King chronologically (and watching the accompanying Miniseries/Movie/TV Show if there is one). I have finished Carrie and 'Salems Lot and Im on to The Shining now. I look forward to hearing about everyone's love and journey through King.

message 4511: by LTJ (new)

LTJ (ltj81) | 379 comments @Derek: Welcome and very awesome! I also loved 'Salem's Lot as for me, IT was my first Stephen King novel and have been hooked ever since :-)

Carrie is also amazing, as is The Shing, LoL everything he writes is gold to me as he's my all-time favorite author for a reason!

Francesco (dolcedisdetta) Hi everyone! I'm Francesco and I’m from Italy. I discovered Stephen King something like 15 years ago with The Green Mile, then I didn't read anything about him again until last year, when I came across Pet Sematary. But true love for his books was born a few weeks ago, with 'Salem' s Lot, one of the most beautiful books I’ve ever read. Now i'm reading Under the Dome and I think I’ll keep reading more of the King in the near future.

All too bookish (alltoobookish) Hello! My name is Pablo, I'm from Lonquén, Chile. First SK book I read was IT, which is my favorite, alonside 11/22/63.
I'm currently reading Needful Things, which will be my 11th King book read.
Some of the books that I haven't yet read and are considered "the best" are The Shining, Salem's Lot, The Stand and Christine. Any recommendation about where should I continue?
Have a good day!

I'd say definitely 'Salem's Lot... that one was SUCH an amazing read! Happy reading :-)

Martha (marthas48) | 6 comments I've been a member awhile ... silent one, I think. Anyway, I have loved SK for years. The Stand used to be my favorite & it probably is in the top 5 now. I love time travel stories so 11/22/63 is maybe a tie with The Stand.

My son, who NEVER read SK, is now devouring his books. He raids my bookshelf each time he comes. I'm a proud mom!

I recently discovered The Losers' Club podcast. A post from them on Instagram, I think, mentioned that Hulu is showing Storm of the Century so I'm watching that now. It's been so long since I watched it that I'm not sure how it ends.

Hope it's ok to mention podcasts & tv shows. Should have checked the rules first. I live in central Ilinois, am a widow, mom & grandma. I just love to read.

So far, I think 'Salem's Lot & Night Shift. He recently read Firestarter and loved it. He didn't finish Gerald's Game. Just didn't like it. He liked The Stand, but I'm not sure he would count it a favorite. I'm just thrilled he is enjoying reading King. Through their teenage years he and his brother kept trying to get me to read R. A. Salvatore. When I finally did, I loved his work, too. Never would have dreamed I would enjoy fantasy so much.

Thanks, that's so sweet. That's the first episode I listened to. Saw a post about it on FB or Instagram. Texted my son because I knew he would enjoy it, too. He's a teacher & drives about 40 minutes a day to work roundtrip so I know he listens to podcasts often. I'm retired & find it harder to listen to books, etc.. I have Fairy Tale in my audible library, but want to finish the big book I'm listening to now. Maybe I'll take breaks & listen to FT some. It's All the King's Men. I remember loving it as a teenager (I love history & I grew up in Louisiana). Not enjoying it as much.

message 4541: by LTJ (new)

LTJ (ltj81) | 379 comments @Martha: Anytime, my new friend! LoL I'm glad you listened to that episode as it rocked! Much respect to your son since I love teachers, they do so much for the world, you know? That's interesting about All The King's Men as yeah, I know what you mean. Novels I loved as a teenager/young adult don't really do it for me now as an adult. I guess it's normal since as we get older, our tastes change!

Lola Pearce | 2 comments Hello there ,
I’m Lola from Oxfordshire U.K. and am new to both this group and Goodreads ( less than a year).
I first discovered Stephen King when I was 16 years old: I am dyslexic and struggled to read at all - failing my education totally. I stole a confiscated copy of Misery from the headmaster’s office and this was the first book I ever read . I couldn’t believe what I’d been missing or that books could be this exiting. I couldn’t get enough and I devoured his work one after another until I’d read them all . Then I started to read other books from almost all genres.
King is my hero. He saved me and I credit him with my. Lifelong love of books and education.

message 4544: by Tony (new)

Tony Rex | 8 comments Hey Lola!! Welcome!! Salem's Lot was the first adult novel I ever read and I was hooked from that point on. Are you going to read Fairy Tale?

message 4545: by [deleted user] (new)

LTJ (ltj81) | 379 comments @Lola: Welcome and very cool, I believe I was also around 16 or 17 when I first read IT and then Cujo by Stephen King and have been hocked for over two decades now. My wife also is dyslexic and when she does read every now and then, loves that font on the Kindle to make reading fun again :-)

So glad to hear you're back as I agree, King is my all-time favorite author and will remain so until the end of time :-D

Jody Jacobus | 2 comments Hello, I'm from Kansas. I've been on Goodreads awhile, silent. Anyway, I stumbled upon this wonderful group. I started collecting King books in middle school. I've yet to read the trilogy, and the last 10 years - life happened. My favorite book is "IT". I like Green Mile, Carrie, Gerald's Game, Misery. I have quite a few to get caught up on. I found the list of his works, so now I can read & fill in where I left off.
