Hey y'all! I'm Lisa and live in South Carolina. I've been a fan since some where around 1978. I read "Night Shift," and I was hooked. Love reading the books then seeing the movies. "The Shining" is my favorite. My adult children know my addiction and grew up listening to what I was reading and watching movies with me. Hubby isn't so much a fan. The kids and I like a thrill. They all enjoy reading. Looking forward to reading more as things slow down in the empty nest.

Have you read & watched Dr. Sleep, the sequel to the shining?
Hi everyone. Probably like most people I discovered King as a teenager when I read Carrie in one day. About 25 years later and still reading. Last novel I completed was a re-read of Misery, and it was interesting to remind myself of the differences between the book and film. There's still a lot of his books I haven't read, so will be interesting to read through others opinions.
Hi, I'm Zoe, or L. Bee. I've recently collected some of King's books and have read a little of Different Seasons, and currently reading Pet Sematary. I want to finish that up by Christmas to start reading The Shining. I'm currently a Online History Student at UNK. I have a 13-14 year old cat named Gandalf the Gray, and he lives up to his name in every way. Mom also got a German Shepperd girl named Ripley (like in Alien). She's not a year old yet, and has stolen my heart (I'm a cat girl, that's not a easy trick).

I'd say it was equally as good as Misery (my fave) but because of the sub-genre I preferred Misery.
The characters and strong themes (no spoilers) in The Shining were really powerful I thought.
Hi there, my name's Helena, and I've kinda lost count how far back I've been on goodreads... maybe a decade? I'd have to check.Anyways, just wanted to add that I might not be the most active member but I've always wanted to make part of a book club that had the same interests as me; I've had chances to enter book clubs IRL before but I HATE reading things I don't have interest in... Just feels like the biggest bore (is that how you spell it..?) in the world.
Recently I thought "Well, I always enjoy King's books, what if I join a club centered around his work?", so here I am.
I'm really curious to try out the "book of the month" aspect, I hope I'll like it.

Hi Peter! Perhaps next year after I've read The Shinning we could compare it to the movie! The movie is perfect for blizzard days here in Upper Minnesota. So, I'm going to have a fun Christmas Break this year! Also, what are you reading next?

Haven't seen it in at least 10+ years and I was very young at the time.
Most of the movie adaptations disappoint after the book but The Shining is one I am particularly excited for.
Even if the depth of the story can't be translated it still has such amazing visuals!
I'm reading Dracula right now and also listening to NOS4A2 on audio book :)

And yeah, Library, I re-read Carrie a few years ago, and although still good it didn't hold quite the same spellbinding effect it did 25 odd years ago. I guess it's better to read as a disaffected teenager yourself, lol

Hi everyone! My name is Eva, 34 years old and I live in the Netherlands. I've been a member on GR for many many years and experienced King for the first time when I was 13, reading The Shining under my blankets with a light. It scared the shit out of me, but I loved it. Definitely one of my favorites. But I also thoroughly enjoyed Misery, the Bill Hodges-trilogy, Pet Cemetary and The Outsider. I have King-moments and sometimes I don't read his books for a long time.
On GR, my list isn't updated, so I want to read again as many as I can!
Currently reading Revival, 50 pages in and I'm already hooked, as usual with King.
Looking forward to sharing our thoughts on his books and meet fellow King-readers!

Hello Everyone, I am new to the group, but I am huge Stephen King fan. With the exception of the Tower series, I've read everything he's written. I'm also an avid reader of horror and a horror novelist, having just published my first book, and I am currently working on the second book in the series.
