Introduce Yourself- part 2

Glad to be a part of the group

I thought Kathy Bates and James Caan were amazing in Misery! I have mixed feelings about the actors in The Shining. In the Kubrick version, I loved Jack Nicholson but could have done without Shelly Duvall. In the made for TV mini series, I loved Rebecca De Mornay but could have done without Steven Weber. (Who?) Side note: I actually live in Colorado and had the opportunity to stay at the Stanley Hotel. Unfortunately the film with Jack Nicholson was not filmed at the Stanley Hotel in Colorado. It is however where Stephen King stayed when he wrote the book. It's also where the made for TV mini series was filmed. Just did the math and that would have been like 20 years ago when I stayed there. My mom and grandma took me there for my 18th birthday.

I'm Andrei from Russia I love Stpehen King's books even if I didn't read most of them.
my favorite book is 11/22/63 and Pet Sematary. Planning to read The Shining as next King's book. Actually all books I have read from Stephen King I really liked)
Would be glad to get any good recommendations)

Welcome Andrei. The Shining is as close as any book can come to being the essential Stephen King, but if you are reading early King, you have to check out The Stand and Salem's Lot.

Welcome Jacky. I'd recommend Doctor Sleep as one of the better latter King books.

Thank you!
"Doctor Sleep" is a book that is mentioned very often.
Some find it "pointless" as a sequel, but many liked it...

Welcome Lucian!

I’m Marissa! I’m 17 and I’m from Canada! I’m a newer fan of Stephen King and his novels, but after reading a few a quickly fell in love. I’m new to Goodreads so feel free to send me a friend request. I’m the only one out of all my friends who loves reading, so it would be nice to meet some people who do as well :)

Welcome! I envy you experiencing his work for the first time.

I'm currently reading Different Seasons by SK and really enjoying it. I've been trying to keep to a chronological order for my reading but I completely overlooked the Bachman books and will need to go back and read some of those. Anyway I look forward to the future discussions in this group! :)

Welcome! Are you getting more or less reading during the current craziness? We seem to be pretty evenly divided.

Hi Marissa! Welcome to the club!

Hi Jack! Welcome to the club!

Hi Alan! Welcome! I love reading Mysteries too

I'm glad you're enjoying that book. The popular opinion is that the other books in that series are even better. Enjoy your book!

Welcome Mel! Yes, King is probably most known for his characterization. He can really bring characters to life.

My first encounter with Stephen King (in written form) was during my studies (English & American literature) with the Dark Tower series, which I loved so much that I even did a paper on it. I admit that I first had problems getting into his other works, probably because I haven't always been a great Horror fan, but during recent years I've begun to catch up and you could very much call me a King fan now.

I can understand where you are coming from, I think the Dark Tower series is very atypical of King's writing. Few would recommend it as an introduction to his work.

Welcome Naomi, reading the best of King, (or even not quite the best) for the first time is an awesome experience.

Fantastic favorite and certainly in my top five! I keep hoping against hope that Frank Darbont will make a screen adaptation.
