Introduce Yourself- part 2

~Leslie S.

Hi Leslie. Welcome. I'm a big fan of audiobooks too, but when I can I try to get the paperback too, so I can see where I am and double check some previous chapters that interested me.

I’ve loved King since I was young, and have been rereading some of his pieces over the last year or so. This year I started with The Shining and Doctor Sleep, and will no doubt read several more throughout 2020. Glad to be here!

Can you download the Nook app on your Kindle? I ask because Barnes & Noble often have King books on special for just a few dollars each. I check all the time and have almost all of them on my Nook now.
BTW, welcome!

Welcome back.

Thank you Erin !

Thank you Erin !"
You're welcome!

From an American fan to a French one, welcome, Emile.

Welcome, MacKenzie, the more the merrier.

My name is Monica, and I'm a paranoid reader.
As a former literature major, I can learn to love any book, though I have a low tolerance for anything that fails the Bechdel Test too badly; very, very rare exceptions, as you can see upon skimming my “Oldies but Goodies" bookshelf, have been made.
Having fled from romantic suspense and Urban Fantasy (some exceptions have been made here, too) to thrillers, memoirs, mysteries, horror novels, police procedurals, and crime novels, I’m a happier, if pickier, reader and reviewer.
In the name of full disclosure, I will let you know that I am very outspoken and tend to clap back when ruffled, but I can and will keep that to a minimum. :)
I look forward to talking books with you all!

Morning, Michael.
Thanks for the early morning chuckle; I needed that :)
I call myself a paranoid reader because I've been known to either pass on or summarily DNF anything with even a quarter of an element of sexism in it.
That test, and I'm shamelessly copy/pasting from Wikipedia , “is a measure of the representation of women in fiction. It asks whether a work features at least two women who talk to each other about something other than a man. The requirement that the two women must be named is sometimes added.”
Others include the requirement that the work eschew sexist tropes and clichés in order to pass the test.
My own personal sniff-test doesn’t require names, but I can tell you that if I see the words “protect,” “rely,” “capture,” “surrender,” “conquer,” in a blurb of a novel with romantic elements, it’s usually a nonstarter, especially if the protagonist is female, and she is the one who does the relying/surrendering/ and/or is captured/conquered /protected.
I used to be able to grit my teeth through that kind of thing but, for whatever reason, I can hardly tolerate it anymore.
For a better idea of what I mean, check out my "not even as toilet paper," "blech," "and "makes me chew glass" shelves.

Howdy Erin, thank you very much! Stay wonderful!"
You're welcome!

My name is Lisa and I'm glad this group exists :)
The first "real" horror movie I watched was Pet Sematary (I was 13) and it started a life-long addiction to everything King-related^^

Awe, poor little gage. :( That part of the movie is always hard to watch, but I bet it's much worse in the book.
Still, that laugh in Jud's house is just...
Oh, and I came across this cool review/retrospective a few days ago and thought it was a fun revisiting of the film.

Welcome to the group Matt! I too live in Indiana. I've been reading Stephen King since the late 70's (I was a mere child). I have read just about everything but I have a little catching up to do. I still haven't read Lisey's Story and (don't kill me group) I'm not interested in the The Dark Tower series...not sure why. Anyway, have fun!!

Welcome Jessy!

Glad to be here!

Welcome Jacob! So glad you renewed your relationship with reading.

I joined a short while ago but not bothered to introduce myself until now - no excuse other than being lazy I'm afraid.
I was an avid reader in my early years but took a long hiatus up until the end of last year. I'm thoroughly enjoying my return to reading.
I have been a Stephen King fan since 1990 when I purchased my first title - Christine - I have fond memories of that book and have reread it a number of times over the years.
That, and IT, are without doubt my two favorites by Mr King.
I'm enjoying the newer books - finding the evolution to his style appealing.
I've read some Dean R Koontz, Dan Simmons, Clive Barker and Richard Laymon over the years which were all mostly OK - no one grabs me like Stephen does with his style.
I'm seeking to branch out to other horror and thriller authors so happy to hear any suggestions.
