Hi, Kelsey, I'm from St. Louis, MO. I love Stephen King's novels, too. I also write "spooky" stories--but not as well as SK. I'm now writing a new novel, but it's going slow. Because of my MS, I was in a nursing home this past year. But now I'm out and writing again!

Barbora Stejskal | 5 comments Hey guys :)

My name is Barbara and I use Goodreads just for a while now, so it's still quite chaotic to me. I would really like to for instance comment on what the others are reading, follow them up or simply read somehow simultaneously. Usually, I'm not much into writing reviews as such, since I am not that experienced and some of the language devices needed to do so are still a bit limited in my case - basically anyone could have written that, so I don't do that often. What I am looking for is anyone to discuss King's books with me - opinions, recommendations & mainly stuff the others may have overlooked.

I started reading his books about half a year ago and I already finished more than 25, most of them I adored. Now I read about 3-4 books per month, mainly on the commute, since I am very busy. However right now I am suffering from a huge readers crisis after finishing the 'Bill Hodges trilogy' and I need to get back on the horse.

Soo.. any suggestions for me, pretty please? Not only regarding reading, but also what groups here to visit, how to properly set up the notifications and so on.

Thanks a lot!

xx

Hi Barbara and welcome to goodreads and Stephen Kings fan pages. We don't judge on how you write reviews or even if you right reviews we don't judge at all. You are entitled to your opinion as is everyone else. We look forward to hearing your thoughts and feelings on Sai Kings books. We are a friendly lot and are always willing to talk about books yes Kings books in general but any book you might like to discuss.

Again Barbra welcome

Glen | 229 comments Hi Barbora, looking at your list of read books vs. To read books, I’m going to tell you to pick up Doctor Sleep. The Shining was a great book about Danny Torrence and Doctor Sleep continues his story years in the future and how it intersects with a young girl and her ability which is similar to Danny’s you won’t be disappointed in how it wraps up. I recommend kickstarting yourself on that book right there to get back on the groove.

Hi Barbora: The group is currently doing a group read of The Running Man for the rest of this month. We read it at our own pace and then discuss it. You can comment by going to https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Next month we start THE GUNSLINGER. There will be a site for that too if you want to pick up a copy and read it and comment. The Gunslinger isn't a long book but it's not one of his most popular though it does lead into an amazing series. The best books come after that one.

message 3556: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 5 comments Hi Barbara,
Have you read the Outsider? That’ll help you out after finishing the Bill Hodges trilogy. I loved those books. I was so excited to read the Outsider... No spoilers for you. Hopefully you’ll read it next.

message 3557: by Barbora (new)

Barbora Stejskal | 5 comments Sure I will, thanks for the recommendation! There is some sort of a movie adaptation coming up as well, right?

I got the 'Revival' yesterday, since the hard copy at least physically reminds me of all the Hodges's books, so hopefully these pieces will lift me up again. :)

What are you reading rn?

message 3558: by Barbora (new)

Barbora Stejskal | 5 comments I read Running man already, but I'll love to see your opinions and ideas and remind it to myself again, so I'll definitely keep up with the book of the month anyway.

About the Dark Tower as such, I'm still not so sure if I'm "there yet". I've been recommended to read e.g. Dreamcatcher first, plus people say it's way different than all the stuff I have read so far, that it's comparable to Hobit or LotR series, which I'm not really into..

message 3559: by Nick (new)

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments The Dark Tower is comparable to the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings in scope but not in story. Also, the Gunslinger, first book of the series, which will be the group read for March, is shorter and somewhat different from the rest of the series, not as good, but still it's a start. There are a lot of books that could lead into the dark tower series but none of them are required. Some of us did a group read of the entire series last year.

Hey all,

My name is Shira, and I live in Germany. Have been a constant reader since the age of 13 or so ("It" was the first King I've read). I'm pretty new to Goodreads though; just a couple of months, but I've found it increases my reading motivation a lot. Now I'm thrilled I've finally found this group.

Rahshek'ka (serene_bookworm) Hi, my name is Ray. I've always wanted to read a Stephen King book. The first book I read was Sleeping Beauties written by him and his son, Owen King. I'm currently reading Misery, one of his earlier works. I can't wait to engage in conversations about his books with like minded people!

I absolutely loved it. The shift between scenes definitely created images of a movie. I'd love to read it again but I'm on a journey of reading as much Stephen King as I possibly can. I would to like compare his earlier works and new works and analyze his growth in creativity and written.

I agree. Here's a link to my over-long review, but I did give it 4 stars.

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

You know there's a debate about the quality of King's work and some feeling that he wasn't as good after he sobered up and after his accident. I don't agree, myself, not with books like 11/22/63 and Duma Key out there, and I'm starting to love Lisey's Story, so I do think there is growth.

So, I looked at “It”, new and late, “Pet Cemetery” and “Dark Tower” (sorry, as for me the film junk) So, I decided to order something from King to read https://www.bestadvisor.com/stephen-king-books. Give advice on where to start. from what I was watching or something new, unfamiliar? Thank you in advance)

Well, as far as I know, the book version is very different in moments from the film version, and due to such moments, the idea of production changes greatly. I want to read the Dark Tower, but after the film is too scray to take it. If you choose a tower or It, what would you choose?

Hey, Lennywat - That recommendation site is very good. They pretty much picked four of King's best books. If you are up for a LONG read, I'd go with IT. The Dark Tower is endless, and the first book in the series is different from the rest of it, more a prologue than a real novel. So the dark tower series is PROBABLY NOT the best place to start. One book that your recommendation site pointed to was THE SHINING. There is a real horror novel. It's excellent. So is SALAM'S LOT. Either of those would be a good place to start. And they aren't as long as IT.

Mandy (charmandareads) Hi everyone!

My name is Amanda and while I'm new to Goodreads Groups, I'm well-versed in Stephen King! He's the first author I ever obsessed over - this was handed down to me by my mother! Most of my copies are her original ones, and that's something I'll always treasure. My first King book was my Mom's beat to hell copy of Pet Semetary, paperback Signet 1984 held together with tape and her name on the inside 🖤 I stole it from her bookshelf was I was 13 and that's how it all started!

message 3585: by Matt (new)

Matt | 193 comments Welcome Amanda. It’s awesome being handed down things like reading from your parents. Pet Semetary is a terrific starting point. I remember my first time reading it was at home, alone, by candle light, during a storm in a 100 year old house. Needless to say, I didn’t get much sleep that night.

Jenny a.k.a....Jenny from the block | 725 comments Out of all Kings books; I haven’t read Pet Cemetery yet. Party since I know this is one of his most scariest ones.
Question; is there a particular season that is a central theme?
I like reading certain books at a certain time of year if the imagery is captured in the narrative.
Thanks in advance for assistance

message 3589: by Glen (new)

Glen | 229 comments Welcome Amanda. Long days and pleasant nights!
Kenneth I’m in the same boat as you. I have never cracked open Pet Cemetery for some reason. It’s not a fear thing as far as I am concerned to date, The Shining holds that title.
I guess this kick in the pants today is going to make me start it. Funny how Goodreads interaction makes you turn your head that way. I just re-read The Gunslinger because of people talking about that novel.

message 3590: by Wally (new)

Wally Flangers My name is Wally Tosselstock (pseudonym Wally Flangers)....

I was born in the Ukraine with a golf ball sized goiter located on the back of my neck. I grew out a mullet style haircut, which I keep year-round, to hide my insecurity……

I was once attacked by a Kodiak bear in Tsarvick and left for dead….. Although my life was spared by the bear, during the midst of the savagely brutal attack, I managed to bite off my own tongue as the clutches from his blood-stained teeth tore into the thick flesh of my thigh…. The aftermath had me left in the dense forest, all bloodied and mauled – leaving me to resort to primitive survival tactics in order to survive….. Luckily, I was discovered, six days later, by an old Indian who was foraging in the woods. He took me under his care and nursed me back to health…..

I enjoy torturing small animals, confirming I am housebroken by using the toilet hourly, and building tree forts for dwarfs out of clay.... I'm obsessed with eating banana peels, drawing pictures of headless barbarians, and eating foods that start with the letter Q.

I'm a quiet and peculiar man who is obsessed with filth and greed. Some refer to me as the millennium's Ebenezer Scrooge. I am not proud of that title, but it is something that I've learned to embrace.

I dislike "in the way" humans and pray daily for a global epidemic that wipes out 99 percent of the population. There are far too many drones walking the earth and I am tired of dodging them.

Some of my favorite authors are Joe Hill, Stephen King, Michael Koryta, Greg Iles, HG Wells, Paul Tremblay, Shane Stevens, Peter Straub, Clive Barker, Richard Bachman, Jules Verne, Bram Stoker, Richard Laymon, and HP Lovecraft.....

I live in an underground cave in (what I call) a third world country. I have zero furniture or appliances.... I'm simply surrounded by dirt, bugs, a single arm chair, a battery powered book light, and an endless stack of novels.... Reading helps keep my sanity in tack. Without books in my life, I fear I would douse myself in gasoline and ask the first stranger I come across to light me a cigarette.

If you can relate to this kind of worthless existence and my obsession with books to disguise my discontent with society of any kind, give me a holler.

- Wally
