mrbooks | 1469 comments Interesting it may have been a regional printing and specific to your area. I have never heard of a joint book like that but have seen other books put together to increase sales of one or the other. I wish you luck in finding it again. Try your local charity shops they often times have books that no one wants as they might be a bit bulky if it is The Stand and Misery, that will be a very good sized book. But yes charity shops are your best bet.

Toni | Dark Reads | 7 comments Hi everyone,

My name is Toni and I am from the South East of England. I am new to goodreads, been a member for a while but not an active one :)

I am a huge King fan but love most horror/suspense. Anything dark and weird is right up my street.

Any tips on finding my way around would be much appreciated haha.

Vickie (bookfan4ever) Hello All,

I'm Vickie. I love the horror genre as well and am in other horror groups, but came across this one today. I work in a library that has a majority of Stephen King's work, so I'm excited to catch up on those I haven't read! I also enjoy his son's work too, Joe Hill. Looking forward to group discussions!

Hi Toni and welcome, I looked at your book list and see you have read some of Sai kings books, would recommend you read the Green Mile next. My other thought is 11-22-63.

Liam Taylor Hi, my names Liam, from Peterborough England. Recently got back into reading this year after not having read since I was about 15 and was delighted to find out about Goodreads! It’s really helped me keep on top of my reading and I love rating the books and the “want to read” lists. I only started reading about 5 months ago and I’m on my 10th or 11th book this year and they’ve all been Stephen king (or Bachman) . I’m hoping to work my way through his entire catalogue over the next couple of years then see where I go from there!

Toni that is a good way to do it, that way you don't get burned out by one author. If you are into High Fantasy, try reading Robert Gordon Wheel of time series, but be prepared for an extended read as there are 14 books and Just or 12,000 pages. Not much of a challenge LOL.

Tom Cook | 1 comments Hi! I’m Tom and I have just rekindled my passion for reading in the last year! I have always been a Stephen King fan and now that I’m older I have a much deeper respect for his writing. I have DEVOURED the Dark Tower series and am continuing plowing through his library of books.

message 3421: by Eva (new)

Eva | 1 comments Hi everyone. I’m Eva. I read my first SK book when I was 14 and I still lived behind the iron curtain, in a country ruled by a communist dictator, and I had access to almost no info from the “free” world. So you can imagine “Misery” was a really big deal for me. Later I discovered one by one “IT”, “Shining”, "Carrie" , and in the last 10-15 years, having a decent English understanding level and internet access, I was able to read basically whatever I wanted . Also most of Stephen King’s work is translated and published where I live (Romania) so it was even easier. I haven’t read all his books yet, but it is a work in progress :) I love to read other authors and genres too, but right now I am in the middle of a SK phase and I just devoured “The Outsider”, “Elevation”, the first two volumes of the Bill Hodges trilogy, currently reading the third one. I plan to re-read the Dark Tower series next, I loved those books, and although I have to admit I haven’t read “The Stand” yet (I know, I know) I think they are Mr. King’s masterpiece. I read it quite in a hurry the first time, being so eager to find out what happens next, but now I plan to take my time and enjoy every page.

Hi Eva and welcome. So glad Mr. King could reach you. I'm rereading the Dark Tower too and finding that I rushed through it the first time. The second time is so much better.

Glen | 229 comments Eva! You should write a book with that background of your reading experience over the years. Can’t imagine what that was like as I’m Canadian. Welcome!

Mrityunjay Dixit (dixitmrityunjay) | 15 comments Hey everyone. I'm Mrityunjay, I first came across the name while watching 'Secret Window' an amazing flick starring Jhonny Depp, once the movie came to an end I was dumbfounded partly due to Jhonny Depp's amazing acting but more so (very much more so) by the PLOT. I went to nearest internet cafe (I am from a middle class Indian family and we didn't have computer then..this was 2 years ago and I was in high school) and googled the name 'Stephen King'. After 1 hour of intensive research (also, the internet was very slow) I found out all there was to find to know that Mr. Stephen King is a living legend.
From then till now I've read many King's novels Mr. Mrecedes (my first one) as that was the only one available in my city's library. I haven't had the chance of reading the dark tower series but I am looking forward to it. I think, the hodges trilogy + the outsider are Mr King's best work as they have the supernatural element turned down a little bit thus the storytelling seems more relaistic..also 'It' and Bazaar of Bad dreams are my all time favorites.

I've joined goodreads this Saturday, in my circle no one even knows Stephen King, I feel kinda left out..but now I think I might be able to share my views and excitement with YOU guys.

message 3427: by Tracy (new)

M (lucrativesequel) | 2 comments Hello everyone! I'm kind of a new-comer to King. I read a few of his books growing up (the one I remember best is Carrie), and a few short things here and there since, and I'm a fan of a few of his movies and miniseries. But it's only been this last year that I've started to delve in! I recently read Under the Dome and just finished Misery a few days ago, and I'm trying to decide what the read next. I'm thinking either Pet Sematary or the Stand (as I loved the Stand miniseries growing up), but I'm not sure if I'm up for two doorstops in a single year! :D I'm looking forward to meeting people and chatting about great books!

Welcome M. You might try Duma Key, Bag of Bones, The Long Walk or Joy Land... lesser known but still great King... and not as long as say It or 11/22/63.

Glen | 229 comments Welcome M! Thank God you’re not N.!
Joke! You may not have read that King story yet so I’ll suggest Just after Sunset which contains a variety of short stories and includes N. Then you can see what I’m talking about.
I second Nick’s choice of Joyland as well.

Thank you for those lovely suggestions! I'm going to add them all to my reading list. I'm definitely very interested in reading some of his lesser-known works, and maybe I can get back into the much longer ones for the new year!

M: Depending on how serious you are about your short story reading "N" has been called the most disturbing story King ever wrote. So I guess there's a challenge there... and a warning.

Brax Henley (cheds) I am new here, just joined a few days ago. I am really excited to be here because I love to read but I don’t have any friends to discuss books with. I tell my husband about every book I read and I’m sure sometimes he’s interested but I’d like someone to talk back to me about the books. Hahah. I’m a stay at home mom of four. I’d been a bit “off my game” with reading and had missed it so this year I decided to set a goal of 24 books to get back into it. I am finishing up my 30th of the year and proud of myself for not only meeting my goal but surpassing it.

My favorite book this year was the Stand. I’ve been reading his books since high school when my dad finally let me take Cujo off his shelf and give it a try. My dad has always immediately bought every book he’s ever written and read it immediately. I have very limited childhood memories but most of them involve running my fingers over the bindings of his books and admiring them, hoping someday to find out what all the fuss was about.

Great story Heather, sounds like great literary memories. I have the same problem with my wife, a nonreader, she wants to be interested but sometimes my story summaries just leave her cold, and when I play snippets of audiobooks she's either in or really out. Anyway, agree with you about the stand.

Brax Henley (cheds) Oh and I’m born and raised in Maine. Not last summer but the summer before we took our daughter to the Rancid/Dropkick concert and when my husband went to get a beer he accidentally bumped into King. I was so mad because I’ve never met him! The closest I’ve come is listening to my mother describe him because they went to the same high school.
