Kathryn Halton | 4 comments Hello. I'm Kathryn, from the UK. I have been a King fan since the 80s. I'm an avid reader, but his are the books I always go back to.
He's such a great storyteller. I write short stories, and use On Writing as my motivational tool. I'm currently reading Finders Keepers, which I am enjoying immensely!
Off to see IT at the cinema tonight too, am very excited.
Nice to find a group of fellow enthusiasts!

Kathryn Halton | 4 comments Thank you everyone. I finished Finders Keepers at the weekend and loved the way the threads came together. Now reading Sleeping Beauties. Went to see IT at the weekend, and enjoyed that too. I then spent an afternoon rearranging my Stephen King books into chronological order, so there's been a bit of a King theme to my weekend! I now have a list of the books I'm missing, just in time for Christmas :-)

Patti Alt | 2 comments Hello everyone. I am new to the group. I am a fan of Stephen King. I think it's such a neat idea to have a place to discuss him and his work. I have read some of his work. but I know that I have barely touched the surface. Any pointers and suggestions for reading and being part of the group, would be much appreciated. Thanks.

message 2772: by Nick (new)

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments Hi Patti -

I started reading King about ten years ago just based on the titles and descriptions. I think I messed up a little by being random, but I really enjoyed the ride. Not sure you have to read all the books in order. Though some people like that approach. But it is best if you read the Dark Tower Books in order and probably one after another. Personally, I don't think you have to read all the books that relate to the dark tower before you read the whole series. Though some people think so. Basically, just pick the books that appeal to you and enjoy them.

message 2773: by Damian (new)

Damian | 36 comments Agree with Nick. He has also been writing for so long now that people often enjoy books from different phases of his life. It’s just about finding what works for you.

message 2774: by Denice (new)

Denice (denicereads) | 7 comments Hello, my name is Denice, 24 years old from Sweden. I read my first King book this year, which was Under the Dome and I really liked it so decided to read some more of his books, and I've loved almost all of them. Especially the Dark Tower series, the second and fourth book in that series is probably in the top of my favourite King books that I've read. Currently readin Sleeping Beauties. I'm only 70 pages in so far so can't say so much yet, but I do feel like I will like it.

Welcome Patti. I think what Nick said is a good approach. Jumping around a bit gives a good overview of SK. For the Dark Tower, I'd read 'Salem's Lot first and then Black House probably after Wizard And Glass because they're directly related, but all the other connections will come in time. King's a very re-readable author, so you'll find yourself going back.

Hi Denice! I really like Under the Dome also and I'm very excited to read Sleeping Beauties! I often don't read books as soon as they come out. I get a lot just from the library. Hope you enjoy the group! :)

message 2781: by mrbooks (new)

mrbooks | 1469 comments Hello all new members, Patti I agree with Nick start where you are comfortable. Some people like his older works better and some prefer his newer works. A lot like me like all of his works to one degree or another. If you are unsure about a book or have doubts just let us know we, all of us are willing to discuss it with you. Be forewarned you are liable to get about 500 different opinions but that what makes this fan page so fun. We don't have to agree to have a good conversation.

Denice, Under the dome was pretty good, I haven't read Sleeping Beauties yet so I won't and wouldn't comment on that as I don't want to spoil books for those who haven't read them. I agree with your assessment of the dark tower series, book 2 and 5 are my favorites though. Yes Wizards and glass is good but I liked The Wolves of Cala just that little bit better.

Anthony DeRosa | 17 comments Hey Everyone,

My name's Tony and I am from Colorado. I joined GoodReads earlier this year and just joined the Stephen King group today. I started off with the Dark Tower series last year and I have made it up through Wolves of Calla so far. After WoC, I just had to read Salem's Lot and just wrapped that up this past weekend. I can say I am obsessed and have a laundry list of King books to read. On my bookshelf waiting for me is The Talisman and Black House.

message 2787: by Jules (new)

Michele (spookybookshelfie) | 116 comments Hello ! And welcome :) I hope you will join us in the group read of King's works, starting with Carrie in December. 'It 'was also my first King book! And I have been dying to read Salem's Lot but since it will come after Carrie I will wait until the group reading to pick it up .

message 2789: by Linda (new)

Linda (beaulieulinda117gmailcom) | 1115 comments I'm currently watching the 2004 Salems Lot with Rob Lowe. I can say this although it has a very good lineup of actors I like the original Better. The original has a better scare factor. 2004 Barlow just isn't scary, that's why they call Stephen King the king of horror. That's just me opinion. I'll wait to read the book with the rest of the group.

message 2790: by mrbooks (new)

mrbooks | 1469 comments Hi Tony Hi Carrado and welcome to the fan page.

I found the original Barlow scary, it is the only thing that was even a little bit scary.
