Welcome, Loraine! So glad you joined the group :).

I also read the Dark Tower series back to back- it was so amazing I probably didn't even sleep until I finished it. I'm also on the King Quest and 11.22.63 is one of the ones I look forward to reading next, so I'll be sure to check in the 11.22 thread to see if you updated on how you're liking it :)

Welcome to the group, Amílcar!

I think It was also the first book I read by Stephen King! It is an amazing book. I want to read it again this year if I can make time :)

I agree with Nick, Salem's Lot and Different Seasons are great books if you want to read more King! Especially if you also like being able to watch movies made from the stories :)

Welcome! So glad to see you found an author you love! Salem's Lot is one of my most favorite novels. I also read the Stand last year and it was so amazing. If you are ever interested in finishing the Dark Tower series, there is a character from Salem's Lot in it that you will already know now. There is also a character from the Stand you would recognize if you read it first :)

If you're curious, here is a really interesting list someone made about the books officially in the Dark Tower and the King books they consider related (like Salem's Lot and the Stand), and it's in the order they think it's best to read them all in:

Hello Ashley! I'm currently reading The Long Walk as well. We should definitely chat! And I am in full agreement that you should start The Dark Tower series. I am a huge fan of those books and am planning to start the series over again soon. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Sarah | 1 comments Hello everyone, I am Sarah and I'm fairly new to goodreads. I've been reading SK since I was 14 when I first picked up a copy of IT and I've been hooked on his books ever since. I recently finished the Dark Tower Series and I'm so sad it is finished after all of these years. I'm currently working my way through 11/22/63 and I'm enjoying it very much so far. Some of my favourite books by SK include, The Stand, Lisey's Story, The Shining and Doctor Sleep.
Happy Reading!!

Jo Ann Kennedy-Ide | 2 comments Hi guy's, I'm Jo from Nebraska! I watched Salem's lot when I was about 8 years old and was scared to death! Lol! Since then I've been fascinated with King. The things that must go on in his mind! My first book that I read was the Stand and I was hooked. I actually had a dream come true last year. My husband was able to get us tickets to see him speak about his book End of Watch. He spoke about many different things and it was so cool to hear him say Children of atheist Corn he came up with driving through Nebraska surrounded by only Corn! Lol! There were books for everyone after as a memento, only 50 signed copies, there were about 100+ of us there. My husband who is an avid reader, not a fan of King, got one!!! Whenever someone asks the question...if you could have lunch with one person, who would it be? Guess who? Nice to meet you all!

J.G. Koratzanis (jgkor) | 2 comments Hi. My name is John and like everyone else here, I'm a rabid SK fan. I became a fan first through his movies, The Shining, Carrie, Salem's Lot and Cujo, but didn't read my first King book until I was sixteen. The Dark Tower I, The Gunslinger changed my life. I've read the series at least four times over and going back before the movie comes out. I'm excited to see how Mr. Elba makes Roland his own

Welcome, John! Always nice to meet another Dark Tower fan. I also read the series when I was 15-16 and I feel the need to re-read it every couple years. I always start with Salems Lot and then I read all the rest. It was exciting to have another DT book to include this last re-read, Wind Through the Keyhole :).

I'm also excited to see Idris Elba work his magic, but the plot summary does terrify me. They seem to have changed so much. If you want to talk more about the movie, I think there's a thread for it in this group :)

Thank you for the autocorrect, it made me laugh! Atheist corn is the most delicious kind =P.

Welcome to the group, Jo Ann!! It's amazing you got to see him speak. And Salem's Lot is one of my favorite novels of his, I re-read it every year :)

Caplee | 10 comments Hi everyone! My name is Caplee Spiller. I live in a town near St. Louis, MO. The first King book I read was Misery when I was eight or nine, and it ruined me. You just can't go back to Goosebumps after something like that, you know? Throughout the rest of elementary school, junior high, and High School I read most everything he did. There was a time when I thought I was too cool for Stephen King or something dumb, and I ended up missing a few, but caught back up with him around 2010 and have since read each novel shortly after their release.
The few books I missed were: The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, Lisey's Story, Duma Key, and Cell. I also haven't read The Talisman or Black House. Do any of these stick out to you as particularly good? Where should I start?

I was disappointed when the 4th DT book was released and it turned out to mostly contain one long flashback. I was itching to see where the ka-tet was heading next, but I just finished a re-reading of the entire series and I've got to say it's probably my favorite! A very memorable detour from the main quest that does a great job filling in some of Roland's back story. You understand the guy a little better afterwards.

In my mind, Duma Key is one of King's very best. Don't miss that one. I really like Girl Who, though it is a book I usually recommend to people who don't like horror. The others are all very good. Black House was great. I intend to go back and re-read Lissy's Story because I don't think I've been giving it the credit it deserves, though I do remember that it has some very scary scenes.

Hello! Of the King books you missed, I highly recommend Duma Key. It is was of my absolute favorite King books! Cell was also a great read - but avoid the movie!

Welcome, Caplee :) I'm reading Duma Key right now and I'm enjoying it so far.

I would recommend the Talisman and sequel Black House. There is a character in Black House that I love more than I have loved a character since I first read DT and found Eddie Dean.

message 2281: by Tom (new)

Tom Deady | 2 comments Duma Key is one of my favorites, very under-appreciated by King fans!

Lexi | 4 comments Hello everyone! My name is Lexi and I've been a long time Stephen King fan. The first novel I picked up by him was Pet Semetary when I was about 10 or 11 and have been in love every since. I've grown busy lately, and have sadly missed a bunch of works that have come out or have been out for a while. Are there any suggestions of everyone's favorites to pick up and get myself going again? Nice to meet everyone!!

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments Wow! I second that motion. 11-22-63 is one of King's best. Long, parts that are scary as hell, a great love story, a rewriting of history, an incredible premise, what more could you want.

Ine Van Cauwelaert Hi everyone! My name is Ine and I'm from Belgium. My first King book was misery, which I read when I was 15 and that's when my obsession with his books started ;) I'm reading the shining right now and just finished the bathtub scene (still processing it) and it is my "mission" to read every single book written by this awesome author!

T.J. Alex (xand) | 1 comments Hi guys! I'm new to goodreads. I'm the author of the screenplay formatting guide, Your CUT TO: is Showing. Currently I'm working on typing up my zombie novel, which was written long-hand on legal pads. Looking for some friends as I have few on here so far. So please friend me! I grew up reading Stephen King and sorta believe him to be a father-figure, as he practically raised me whether he knows it or not! Is that weird? Anyway, friend me, follow me, message me, whatever, and asked your friends to do the same. I'll be updating on the progress of my novel and the 2nd edition of my screenplay book, and blogging on writing, horror novels and movies, and loads of other things.
