Welcome! There are many fans that prefer either his early or more recent books, but not both. I hope you end up liking them all! 'Salem's Lot is my very favorite King and the horror aspect is the least of it's appeal.

I finished IT by Stephen King last night and filmed a spoiler free review on it on my booktube channel. I'd love to know if anyone else felt the same way that I did about the book. Please watch my video and lets chat in the comment section!

Nice review Jade... though, of course - as someone who gave the book 5 stars - I disagree. I figure a nightmare is the ultimate validation of a horror novel. I'll try to post a comment below your youtube video.

Melissa ~ Recreational Hobbyist (recreationalhobbyist) | 10 comments Hey everyone! Fellow constant reader here. Feel free to add me. I've been a huge King fan going on 25 years now. I'm in the midst of reading all of King's works from the beginning. Currently working on Night Shift right now.

My husband & I also began collecting all his works in hardcover. It has taken us about a year, and we are only 4 away from completion. It has become a obsession and inspired me to read all his work again, and ones I've never read.

Hey everybody!
I am new to Goodreads and could use some friends with similar taste. So please add me like crazy. I am very active here. Especially when it comes to the King.

My SK taste might seem a bit weird for most people I think. But the reason I grab his books is because of his writing about seasons, weather, nature, suburbs and of course ... growing up.

Or to be more straight: The Body, It, The first 1/3 of Mile 81 ...
That's what I think about, when I think SK. And not horror or supernatural.

Anyway. Because of his very mainstream writing, it's just easy to grab his books and enjoy them. So reading his work is kind of a regular in my life since a few years. And I had some good times with it, and some bad times.

I am also a MASSIVE Richard Bachman fan. I love his straight to the point writing and "no excuses" attitude.

If I had to make a Top 10, it would be like something like this:

1. The Body
2. The Running Man
3. Thinner
4. IT
5. The Jaunt
6. Joyland
7. Finders Keepers
8. Mile 81
9. Premium Harmony
10. Cain rose up

Like I said. I might be a weird sheep in the SK crowd. :D

And again: please add me! I wanna talk about books and read about other opinions soooo badly here. :)

Greetings from Berlin and I wish you all a great autumn reading day!

Glad you're here Salman. If you haven't read much King why not go right to the top of the list: The Shining, IT, or Salem's Lot.

If you want a mid-range King and you haven't read it try Duma Key. If you want something more recent try the Bill Hodges Trilogy, or Joyland or the best of the bunch, 11/22/63 - though it's heavy American history.

I had to take a break from things due to ill health earlier on and now eager to get back in to my reading habits. as a Stephen king fan I'm ashamed to say I'm not sure where to begin again. I have read some of his books but eager to read them all in time. any recommendations as to where to begin again. some say begin with Carrie others a novella but I'm not sure. I'm just eager to get reading again.

So many choices, old stuff? new stuff? Bachman? Novellas? How about full dark, no stars (novellas), or duma key... both relatively new. Or, if you haven't read Salem's Lot (one of his earliest), try that. If you're ready for thousands of pages, plow through The Dark Tower. And if you don't mind its focus on American History, 11/22/63 is great. Bachman? The Long Walk... no doubt about it.

My actual introduction to the horror genre was when I was a teenager and the first horror book I read was Cujo. Been a fan ever since. Stephen King is my number one horror author, but I do read other horror authors. Looking forward to interacting with all of you on here.

Jenny a.k.a....Jenny from the block | 725 comments Hello all. This is my second year with good reads and I do enjoy the app and interacting with everyone. Stephen King is my #1 author since his work has transcended many genres.
This year coming I will have a different challenge for books not just numbers
Book series I'll read the dark tower then move onto other authors ...my status has the other types of books I plan to read....
So happy reading everyone
PS I find reading helps me wind down from an intense and stressful day at work.

James (slaytanicphanatic) | 4 comments Hello to all my fellow subjects. I'm Jim. I finish concrete in the Philadelphia area, am 46 and LOVE Stephen King. When I was 13, my 8th grade teacher recommended Salem's Lot after noticing me reading a Dracula paperback. It was a Catholic School where half of the teachers were Nuns so normally any teacher recommendationds were not what I was looking for. Salem's Lot was. After 33 years it is still my favorite. I recommend it to anyone who wants to try out Stephen King. Saw some new fellow subjects are looking for recommendations and would be happy to help. IMO It, The Stand and The Dark Tower series are very long but well worth the time if you have it. I really liked Cell but I don't see it recommended a lot. Different Seasons, Misery and The Shining are some all time favorites. Also, I really liked the Bill Hodges trilogy.

Bailey Cunningham Hey guys! I'm excited to be apart of this group. I'm a huge Stephen King fan and would love to read all his books/own all his books. I don't have anything bad to say about any of his books and have always enjoyed reading them again and again.
My first SK book was Cujo and my love for SK's writing grew from there. The Dark Tower series tops it though! Best books out there in my humble opinion.

message 2184: by Ines (new)

Ines (imaginary_space) Hello, I'm Ines from Germany and the book that got me into Stephen King was "Pet Sematary" which I read 18 years ago... and I just realised, that's a very long time. I read "IT" immediately afterwards and then a long line of King novels followed.
Since I haven't read a King book in a few years, I want to use this group as motivation to revisit some old favourites and explore some new books.

Mohammed Alhaj Hi guys,

I just joined this group, and I'm completely flabbergasted that I have not joined it sooner. I haven't found anyone to share my thoughts and feelings about Stephen King and his books, and it's amazing that this group exists in Goodreads.

To tell you the truth, I haven't read a ton of SK's books, but I'm a die-hard fan of several, and am continuing to read on and follow this adventure to the end. In any case, here's a list of my favorite books:

The Girl who Loved Tom Gordon
The Stand
The Dark Tower
11/22/63

As you can tell, I have many more treasures to discover from SK. If you have any suggestions, please let me know :)

When saying The Dark Tower, was it the entire series? Or just The Gunslinger? I highly recommend all 7 (and a half) of The Dark Tower Series. They only get better after book one! Welcome to the group!

Gary Smith Good evening! My names Gary. I am a long time reader, longer time writer(non published...yet) and completely new to the site. I wish I would have known about this site sooner. Its very interesting. I have been writing as a hobby for a very long time. Mostly fun, creepy stories to scare my friends and family and others who choose to read. Working on a piece now I would like to publish. Above all, I am a die hard Stephen King fan. In my opinion, nobody will ever top his work. He is a one in a million. What I love most, his originality. Its hard to find original works of literature these days. He also seems very humble. He knows he's good, and it doesn't go to his head.
I've read several of his novels. My all time favorite that will probably never change, is The Shining. Nothing compares to it. All original, from the location, to the chain of events. I'm in the middle of the dark tower series, I need to start reading 5, The Wolves of Calla. So far I love the series, The Drawing of Three has been my favorite so far. Thinner under the name Richard Bachman is also a good one. The girl who loved Tom Gordon was a home run as well. One of his newer works Revival was also a fine piece of work. Im curious about his novel "Cell",.....S.K. doing a zombie novel, this I have to check out, after im finished with what im reading now I am starting it.
Glad to be a part of the group. Feel free to ad me or spark up a conversation anytime! Keep those pages turning!

Mariam Naskidashvili (mariamnasss) | 4 comments hi everyone. I`m Mariam from The Republic of Georgia. I started reading at the age of 14. I also write some stories as a hobby, nobody has ever read them yet. I have lots of favourite writers, but especially I adore Frederic Begdbeder and my King. To say truth, I have read only some of his books yet, but what I realised is that they are brilliant!!!. Stephen has his own specific writing style which I really love it. Before It, I`ve been thinking that books in horror genre were stupid and non-given. The first book, which I read was The shining, and it immediately became one of my favourite book. I have also read Different seasons, Under the dome, Carrey and The fog(I don`t know exactly how does that book called in Englishi.)

I have been an avid reader since middle school, when I realized that only it and music kept me sane (my bedroom used to be plastered with metal posters). I read a bit of Stephen in high school, but I only recently have really appreciated his way of story telling. So now I am on a mission to read all of his works. Looking forward to being part of this group.
