Welcome! There are many fans that prefer either his early or more recent books, but not both. I hope you end up liking them all! 'Salem's Lot is my very favorite King and the horror aspect is the least of it's appeal.

I finished IT by Stephen King last night and filmed a spoiler free review on it on my booktube channel. I'd love to know if anyone else felt the same way that I did about the book. Please watch my video and lets chat in the comment section!

Nice review Jade... though, of course - as someone who gave the book 5 stars - I disagree. I figure a nightmare is the ultimate validation of a horror novel. I'll try to post a comment below your youtube video.

My husband & I also began collecting all his works in hardcover. It has taken us about a year, and we are only 4 away from completion. It has become a obsession and inspired me to read all his work again, and ones I've never read.
Hey everybody!
I am new to Goodreads and could use some friends with similar taste. So please add me like crazy. I am very active here. Especially when it comes to the King.
My SK taste might seem a bit weird for most people I think. But the reason I grab his books is because of his writing about seasons, weather, nature, suburbs and of course ... growing up.
Or to be more straight: The Body, It, The first 1/3 of Mile 81 ...
That's what I think about, when I think SK. And not horror or supernatural.
Anyway. Because of his very mainstream writing, it's just easy to grab his books and enjoy them. So reading his work is kind of a regular in my life since a few years. And I had some good times with it, and some bad times.
I am also a MASSIVE Richard Bachman fan. I love his straight to the point writing and "no excuses" attitude.
If I had to make a Top 10, it would be like something like this:
1. The Body
2. The Running Man
3. Thinner
4. IT
5. The Jaunt
6. Joyland
7. Finders Keepers
8. Mile 81
9. Premium Harmony
10. Cain rose up
Like I said. I might be a weird sheep in the SK crowd. :D
And again: please add me! I wanna talk about books and read about other opinions soooo badly here. :)
Greetings from Berlin and I wish you all a great autumn reading day!

Welcome. We are currently reading The Running Man as a group. It's a reread for many of us. You should join in!

Thank you! :)
Thank you! :)

Glad you're here Salman. If you haven't read much King why not go right to the top of the list: The Shining, IT, or Salem's Lot.

If you want a mid-range King and you haven't read it try Duma Key. If you want something more recent try the Bill Hodges Trilogy, or Joyland or the best of the bunch, 11/22/63 - though it's heavy American history.

Welcome

So many choices, old stuff? new stuff? Bachman? Novellas? How about full dark, no stars (novellas), or duma key... both relatively new. Or, if you haven't read Salem's Lot (one of his earliest), try that. If you're ready for thousands of pages, plow through The Dark Tower. And if you don't mind its focus on American History, 11/22/63 is great. Bachman? The Long Walk... no doubt about it.

Glad you're here Marie.

This year coming I will have a different challenge for books not just numbers
Book series I'll read the dark tower then move onto other authors ...my status has the other types of books I plan to read....
So happy reading everyone
PS I find reading helps me wind down from an intense and stressful day at work.

My first SK book was Cujo and my love for SK's writing grew from there. The Dark Tower series tops it though! Best books out there in my humble opinion.

Since I haven't read a King book in a few years, I want to use this group as motivation to revisit some old favourites and explore some new books.

I just joined this group, and I'm completely flabbergasted that I have not joined it sooner. I haven't found anyone to share my thoughts and feelings about Stephen King and his books, and it's amazing that this group exists in Goodreads.
To tell you the truth, I haven't read a ton of SK's books, but I'm a die-hard fan of several, and am continuing to read on and follow this adventure to the end. In any case, here's a list of my favorite books:
The Girl who Loved Tom Gordon
The Stand
The Dark Tower
11/22/63
As you can tell, I have many more treasures to discover from SK. If you have any suggestions, please let me know :)

The shinning has a miniseries? I've seen the movie, but a miniseries? How did I not know this?

When saying The Dark Tower, was it the entire series? Or just The Gunslinger? I highly recommend all 7 (and a half) of The Dark Tower Series. They only get better after book one! Welcome to the group!

I've read several of his novels. My all time favorite that will probably never change, is The Shining. Nothing compares to it. All original, from the location, to the chain of events. I'm in the middle of the dark tower series, I need to start reading 5, The Wolves of Calla. So far I love the series, The Drawing of Three has been my favorite so far. Thinner under the name Richard Bachman is also a good one. The girl who loved Tom Gordon was a home run as well. One of his newer works Revival was also a fine piece of work. Im curious about his novel "Cell",.....S.K. doing a zombie novel, this I have to check out, after im finished with what im reading now I am starting it.
Glad to be a part of the group. Feel free to ad me or spark up a conversation anytime! Keep those pages turning!
