Introduce Yourself- part 2

I first started to read..."
Thank you for your service and welcome to the group. If this is your first time through the DT series you are in for a treat. Many feel the first is a slog, but keep with it.

I just joined goodreads the other day and I'm keen to get into some cool groups.
I love Stephen King. I'm kind of new to his books and I've only read a handful so far. I am slowly becoming addicted to his work!
I especially love all the film adaptations of his stories, especially Green Mile.

Hey Geroge, glad you're here. I echo Kandice on the "thanks for the service" Sounds like you're reading several books at the same time. I do that too though it can get confusing.

Welcome, Clare. What have yo read?

My favorite SK book is The Talisman, I've read it several times and it needs to be made into a movie or maybe a series would be better.
I also really like the Mr. Mercedes (Bill Hodges Trilogy) books.
I'm finally reading the Dark Tower books and I'm about to start #7 soon. I don't know why it's taken so long for me to read this series but I'm enjoying it a lot.

I also think The Talisman would make a great series! What's frustrating is that I will cast it in my head and then five years later that "cast" is too old! Also, as technology gets better I often think now is the time to make it and then... technology gets better again!

Welcome Mariam!

Welcome and rest assured you are not the first person to struggle with The Gunslinger. At least the first time through. ;)

Welcome! I love the Shining, I'm reading the sequel Doctor Sleep right now and its brilliant!

Welcome, Maggie!
Salems Lot is my favorite standalone King novel, I have to re-read it every year! :)
I admit it took me a few months to start and finish the first Dark Tower book because it does feel like a slow start, but I swear by the time I reached the second book I could not put them down! Now its my favorite series ever written. The characters introduced in the second and third books really make the series worth it, especially as they also make Roland a more vibrant character because he was so alone before.
Also, I won't say the name in case you haven't been spoiled yet, but there is a character from Salem's Lot that you get to see again in the Dark tower series :)

Hey, Don!
I read the Talisman last year and really liked it! I absolutely loved the sequel, Black House, though, it was one of my favorite King books for sure! I heard he and Peter Straub were going to try and collaborate to make #3 in the near future if possible, very hopeful!

Welcome, Claire!
I just read the Green Mile this year, and I must say I think the movie is the most honest and perfect adaptation of a book to a movie that I have ever seen in my life. It was perfect!

My name is Lola and I am from Chicago, Illinois. I've been a member of Goodreads for a couple years and I adore it ! I have been a King fan before I even knew he was an author. My introduction to S.K. was in the 70's when the movie Carrie came out. Since then I have read any and everything Stephen King! My absolute favorite book is "It" followed closely by "Needful Things". I agree with Most that 11/22/63 is the newest in a long line of masterpieces.

My name is Alex, I'm a bit new to Stephen King, but I love what I've seen of his work. Around October I like to make my own seasonal reading list, which I call my Halloween reading list. I read my first Stephen King novel last October, Carrie, which I really enjoyed. I finished the Bazaar of Bad Dreams not long ago, and now that October is approuching I added a few other Stephen King books to my Halloween reading list such as the Stand, Four Past Midnight (both of which I currently own), It, the Shining, and the Gunslinger. So I consider myself still a bit new to Stephen King, but I hope this group will motivate me to read more of his work.
If anyone likes, please feel free to add me. I love discussing books and sharing ideas, so feel free to message me if there is anything you would like to discuss anything.

Hey, Lola, welcome. I definitely agree with your assessment of 11/22/63... and all the others.

Hey, Alex, The Stand isn't the beset Halloween read. Cujo starts out really scary IMHO, The Shining is the scariest of all, but takes a bit of time to get going. Can't remember four past midnight, but I thought it was good, Full Dark No Stars is great too, though those are books where the terrors are less supernatural.

I definitely plan to read the Stand at some point, but I'll remove it from my list until after Halloween, and add in the new suggestions for now. I wanted to stick strictly to the theme, at least for the season.

Just double checked the opening pages of IT. That would definitely work. Here are the first paragraphs of my 5-star review.
Stephen King flexes his horror-writing muscles in this tale of seven misfit kids who must confront the profound primitive intelligence of the most vicious creature to ever inhabit planet earth. In the process of telling his story, King draws what is perhaps his best portrait of the personification of evil... not Randall Flagg, not the Crimson King, but IT!
The monster arrives from beyond space and time into the swamps that will eventually become Derry, Maine. Eventually, IT takes over the labyrinth of sewers and tunnels under the city. IT usually shows itself to Its victims as their worst nightmare (right out of literature, comic books, or movies): the giant eye, Rodan - the monster bird, the werewolf, Frankenstein’s creature, the mummy, Hansel and Gretel’s witch. But Its most common and perhaps most terrifying incarnation is Pennywise, the child-eating, monster-screaming, mass-murdering, shape-shifting, sardonic Clown. (And, as King reminds us, who doesn’t love a clown?)

I'm an avid reader and fan of Stephen King since I first read 'It' and The Green Mile in 1999 and been reading his books ever since.

Hey Nolan, welcome. Why mess around? Before you get into the tower series read It and The Shining.

I'm fairly new to Stephen King and to the horror genre, only started reading about a year ago. Yep, I'm kinda of a wuss lol but my loving girlfriend is having a positive influence on me to get into it and I gotta say, I'm really loving it!
And if I had to get more into it, I had to start with the master, right? So my first horror book was The Shining. Ahhh, what a light reading for a easily scared fellow, right? lol
I loved it, it made me tense but it made me want to turn the page even more, I couldn't stop. What power this man has with his words, my god.
Now I'm finishing It, which made me decide that I want to tattoo Pennywise on my body later on. Yes, I love it that much. And just yesterday I bought The Stand and Salem, so I got me some good SK to read for the rest of the year :)
Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself, hope I made a good impression :)
Nice to meet you all!

Glad you're here Wendell. If you want to stay with pure horror, I'd go with Salem's Lot next.

Thank you very much for the warm welcome, Nick! I really appreciate it.
I made a deal with my girlfriend that she reads Salem's Lot first and I read The Stand, then we'll switch :)
Funny and weird how now I want to be afraid reading a book, never had that feeling before.

I was in the infirmary in college once, not all that sick but all alone in a big room with maybe 30 beds, totally unoccupied. I had to read Turn of the Screw as part of an assignment. They turned off all the lights except for a small bedside table lamp. The place was dead silent except for some squeaky noises out in the hall. Scared the crap out of me.

I also don't feel actual fear when watching scary movies. The only exception was the episode "Squeeze" of the X-Files. I was 8 months pregnant, my husband was working overnight and I was afraid to leave the chair where I watched it until the morning when my husband got home. I think that was hormones more than Chris Carter, though. ;)

WRITE a book about it, John, then it will. :-)
