I agree with this recommendation. It's gruesome but that did not stop me from racing through it."

I just started becoming a fan of Karen Slaughter, I'll also have to check out Pretty Girls.

Anna Willett | 5 comments Pretty Girls is a great read. Slaughter is one of my favourite authors. You won't be disappointed.

Erin (ems84) | 2669 comments I probably wouldn't be. The only series I have read of hers, so far, is the Will Trent series but I am sure all of her books are great.

Katherine | 1 comments Hi! I'm Katie. I am an avid reader with a wide range of literary interests, but I fell in love with Stephen King's books in the fifth grade. Yes, that was a while ago! I am currently on a task to re-read all of his books. Originally, I thought I would start chronologically, but I decided to begin with IT, as this book really sparked my interest in a number of different genres to include historical fiction. I may go back and start from the beginning once I finish, but right now I am excited to connect with other readers who share the same interests.

Anna | 7 comments Hi, I'm Anna from Denmark. I first stumpled upon Stephen King when I picked up the novel 'Rose Madder' at the school library, when I was in the 8'th grade. Shortly after, I read 'IT' and then I was hooked. I've read many SK's novels, but not all, because there are soooo many ;) Some of them I've read several times, for instance 'The Stand'. I look forward to participating in the group discussions :)

After reading Pretty Girls, I picked up Triptych (the first in the Will Trent series) and I'm now hooked on Karin Slaughter books. I need to read the rest!

Hello, My name is Alex. I am from Michigan. I have always been interested in reading Stephen King's novels, but sadly not the motivation or I forget. I love the movie The Shinning and Shawshank Redemption. I think this group will be perfect motivation for me to read all his great novels. Which is exciting.

Hello from Berlin,

my name is Fabian and I never read much in my childhood & teenage years. (except comics)

So I kinda try to make up for it in the last few years.

My top 3 books are:

01: SOUTH OF THE BORDER, WEST OF THE SUN (Haruki Murakami)
02: TREASURE ISLAND (RL Stevenson)
03: THE BODY (Stephen King)

So if anybody from Berlin wanna hang out some time, just holla at me.

Shannon (mrsreadsbooks) Hi I'm Shannon (Mrsreadsbooks on Instagram). A thought I read a very wide variety of books as you can see in my Goodreads feed, my first love has always been Stephen King. His books, particularly Carrie and Night Shift are what really turned me into a read 10 books a month reader!

message 2070: by Izzy (new)

Izzy | 3 comments Hi, my name Izzy.
I love Stephen King and have been collecting/reading his books for nearly two years. I love his work, and how he keeps coming up with ideas for new books I have no idea! I currently own 46 of his books plus some of the Dark Tower comics. I am looking forward to joining in on this group.

message 2071: by Nick (new)

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments Hey Izzy, welcome. There are a lot of opinions here and some good advice too... I think.

message 2072: by Wise Cat (new)

Wise Cat (wisecat) I've been a fan of his books for decades, and I've noticed this group seems to have some activity. So I joined a few weeks ago.....

I belong to a few other "groups" but they have not had any activity literally in years!! I don't know why, but it's disappointing of course.

I haven't seen any screen adaptations of his work that I enjoyed. They always mess it up! An exception is Under The Dome, of which I thought the TV series had a better story than the book, which was too long for me to boot.

His writing is so vivid I always feel like a part of the story, like I'm "in" the book, or one of the characters. He does excellent character development as well.

After finishing The Dark Tower 7, it was a let down to read 2312 by Kim Stanley Robinson. The writing was so inferior in comparison.......Maybe I shouldn't read a book by an unfamiliar author right after reading one by a favorite author.

Welcome, Wise Cat, like your image. Not sure you would find a lot of agreement about the TV version of Under the Dome, but it's great to find someone who liked the show. I enjoyed several episodes but eventually I gave up on it. If you want to see the best TV adaptation of a King book - which isn't really even an adaptation - read The Colorado Kid, and then watch the TV show, Haven. Great great stuff. Have you tried Joe Hill's work (King's son)? His books have the same high level of quality as the master himself. Or, if you want to suffer, try Karen Slaughter. Neil Gaiman is right up there too, of course. (with the quality not the suffering.)

Tabi (barbarads) Hello everyone!

My name is Bárbara and I'm a brazilian King fan since I'm 15 and I can say for sure that my love for his works just keeps getting bigger. My favorites are Misery and Pet Sematary. Very happy to join this group and be able to discuss with other CRs. So thank you very much for accepting me :)

Thanks for liking my image. The "reply" button didn't work like I thought so I copied your post. I thought they dragged out Under the Dome too much (both TV show and book).

I haven't read Colorado Kid nor seen the show Have. I haven't tried Joe Hill's work either though I want to. SO many books I want to read and not just from King. And boy is he a tough act to follow: Kudos to his son!

What do you mean by "if you want to suffer"? LOL Why would I want to suffer?

Sigh I tried to make my post in italics or bold so it will stand out but it doesn't have that way it seems. :-(

Why would you want to suffer? There are so many possibilities. Guess you're not a Catholic. What I meant was Karen Slaughter's books are so gripping that you spend your time between chapter-readings worrying about the fate of the heroines or heroes. A lot of people here seem to enjoy that level of high anxiety.

I know what you mean by "gripping", I find Stephen King's works to be so....Real page turners for the most part!

Thanks for the friend request which I accepted. :-) I finally have one friend on here after being on this site since 2012, LOL.

I thought the site itself was supposed to offer me friend recommendations as well as books, but I never see them. :-(

message 2082: by Kendyle (new)

Kendyle I'm not sure if this is still an active group or not. King is my favorite author and probably the single reason that I am the avid reader that I am today. I read Carrie when it first came out ( showing my age!) and have read everything that King has published since (and thousands of other books since). My favorite is still The Stand.

message 2083: by George (new)

George Wescott | 1 comments I am an avid King fan and collector. It began with my reading The Stand. By the time I finished the book I was hooked.I have been working on my collection since 1978. I collect all things Stephen King. As a beginner collector, my initial goal was just to get a copy of each book. It has evolved into very specific copies, editions, states of all of his work. My collection, however, encompasses more than his books. After all these years it is still a rush to go on a hunt for some obscure memorabilia or just hit a random bookshop and treasure hunt. You NEVER know what you will find.
I am always interested in meeting and communicating with other King collectors to compare interests and experiences. While my emphasis is on King, I do find that ANY 2 collectors can talk to each other. I look forward to hearing from other fans and collectors.

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments Welcome, Kendyle and George. This is an active group. A few of us are discussing Mr. Meredes right now, but there are other active threads too. Also, lots of people post on what are you reading now. Things may be a little slow since it's summer but they will pick up in the fall.

I saw some of the episodes as it went a long, but now I'm starting at the beginning and going through every episode. Right now I'm up to the start of the third season. My daughter tells me she's gone through the entire series three times.

James Rasile | 1 comments Hello everyone! I'm James, living in Toronto, Canada! Love Stephen King and talking Stephen King. I'm also an author and wrote a book that is currently funding. Not sure if it is allowed by the link to it is here: https://www.inkshares.com/books/cape-... It definitely has a Stephen King vibe to it, and is similar to Jaws, Stranger Things, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
I look forward to being part of this group and discussing the King!

message 2097: by Crystal (new)

Crystal Thili | 5 comments I don't think I introduced myself when I joined. I'm Crystal. I'm in my late 30s. My father was a Constant Reader and I was allowed to watch all sorts of movies when I was growing up, so I've been a Stephen King fan for almost as long as I can remember.

When I started reading adult books instead of children's books (I almost totally skipped over YA all together) in Jr High, I almost only read Stephen King. I even got 100% on a book report on Christine.

Then I took a huge break from reading in general and when I did read, I wanted to try out other authors.

A friend recommended Joe Hill to me last year (and didn't say he was SK's son). I read one of his books and Googled him and you can't help but see the resemblance in photos. I read more of his stuff, and N0S4A2 really reminded me of some King stuff (I think there are some references in it as well). So, last fall I reread the Shining before reading Doctor Sleep and I've been on an SK binge ever since (though I'm currently taking a break to read JH's The Fireman).
