Introduce Yourself- part 2

I’m Amy. I am of course, a huge reader and Stephen King fan
Hi Amy, I'm in the same boat: only a couple of my friends read, so I rarely get to discuss book thoughts (although I did get to talk about 11/22/63 the other day for a good bit :D ).

I’m Amy. I am of course, a huge reader and Stephen King fan.
Hi, Amy! Nice to meet yet another Constant Reader in this awesome group :)
Salems Lot is one of my favorites! I can't stop myself from re-reading it once a year.
And it is really hard to contain the King feelings if you don't have someone to talk to about it. I remember finishing Wind Through the Keyhole and feeling like I was going to explode :).

I'm with you Amy. I thought the long walk was amazing... and the audiobook version was especailly great.

I read a few of Stephen Kings books (my mom has a decent collection) when I was in high school (The Shining, Night Shift, Skeleton Crew, Different Seasons, The Gunslinger), but I can't even remember what I was reading that bored me and I decided I was done with him.
Now, 25 years later (wow, I feel old), I wanted some audio books to listen to while I'm doing my daily walks. I decided that I would listen to all of Stephen King books in audio form in order and then try to watch whatever adaptations were made from his stories. I even decided that I would listen to books that I have read before since I really wanted to experience all his works in the order he wrote them, especially when some characters and settings cross over in his universe.
I started this project late last year and have made it through Carrie, Salem's Lot, The Shining, Rage, Night Shift, and The Stand. I just finished The Stand a few days ago and started on The Long Walk this morning. So far my favorites have been The Shining and The Stand.
I look forward to reading through all his works and I appreciate his writing much more now than I did when I was younger. I look forward to this group!

Hey, Coni, I'm a big audiobook fan too. I think there are a few important ones that aren't available... (The Dead Zone for one). But some of the performances are amazing. It is a great companion for walking... makes me walk farther and more consistently. Great for trips and for driving to work too.

Yes, while going through Audible, I have found some books are not on there. I was lucky to find Rage in print so I have read that. I also have bought The Dead Zone, Cycle of the Werewolf, and Pet Sematary because there are not audio versions of them. I'm surprised about The Dead Zone and Pet Sematary. I'll have to read them the old fashioned way! :)

It's really amazing about the Dead Zone, especially since it's one of King's favorites.

I'm not a huge bookworm and don't read a whole lot like most people do on this webpage, but when I do I mainly read Stephen King. Though I'm currently ad..."
Hi, Don, welcome!
I've been wanting to read Joe Hill very much, I'll make sure to read the ones you mentioned. I love Salems Lot and I recently read The Green Mile for the first time and it was great :)
I have started Finders Keepers. Hope you enjoy it as much as I am thus far. I'm already more invested in it than I was in Mr. Mercedes :).

Hello, welcome back :). I agree, his books are definitely made to be re-read. I don't know why, but I get a craving to read Salems Lot every year and just have to!

I haven't read King until fairly recently. My first King book was Mr. Mercedes, which I read last summer at the beach. I really loved that book and continued the Hodges trilogy with Finders Keepers and now End of Watch.
After finishing End of Watch, I picked up Revival at Books a Million a couple days ago and hope to start it soon. :-)

Welcome! I've been a King fan since the 70s and it seems funny to me that new fans will come to him through the Hodges trilogy, especially since it is so unlike anything else he writes. I wonder how you will feel about the rest of his work when you get to it.

I’ve been lurking around this group for quite a while and I think it’s about time I introduced myself!
I’m Gaby and I’m from Devon, England. I’m a huge King fan and I’m slowly making my way through as many of his books as I can. So far I’ve checked 22 books off the list, so there’s quite a few to go.
The Shining is my all time favourite novel - though I wasn’t too keen about the film - and I absolutely loved IT and Pet Sematary. I’m currently reading The Dome and next on my list is Joyland.
I love the horror genre per se and I’m looking forward to meeting lots of fellow readers ☺

Hey Gaby, welcome. If you really like horror I hope you've also checked out Salem's Lot, Bag of Bones, The Long Walk, and even Gerald's Game.

Massive fan of It and the Dark Tower Series!
Also do love Salem's Lot and The Stand...
To be honest I have few qualms against any of his books haha

Great, thanks for the advice! When I read NOS4A2, I'll be sure to get back to you :).

Hi, Alex, welcome!
All favorites! I read the Stand last year for the first time and it was absolutely amazing.

Hi Gaby! It still amazes me that you can say you've read 22 books, but there are still so many left to read. King writes so much! I've barely started myself and I wonder how long it'll take me to get through his entire collection.

Now I am older and have read about 37 of King's books, he is by far my favorite author! My favorites are The Dark Tower series, but I really love IT and The Stand as well.
I saw a few posts about Joe Hill around here, and I've read all of his published books so far (20th Century Ghosts, Heart Shaped Box, Horns, NOS4A2, The Fireman), and he is awesome. Heart Shaped Box might be one of the scariest books I've read in a long time, and The Fireman is Hill's ode to The Stand (including some intentionally similar character names and moments). I'd recommend Hill to any Stephen King fan, especially those interested in the greater King universe, since Hill leaves a few Easter eggs from his Dad's books in his own work, and vice versa.
Happy to meet you all! Long days and pleasant nights!

And may you have twice the number!
A pleasure to meet you, Michelle! I have also been a King fan since I was young and he's definitely my favorite author. I plan to start Joe Hill very soon, and you and Don have certainly gotten me excited for it. Insomnia is actually a book I read for the first time last year. I enjoyed it! My first King book was It :).

My mom had random Stephen King on her bookshelves which is how I picked up one of them when I was a teenager. She didn't have It, but I remember other friends reading it and it scaring them so much. I look forward to finally reading that one when I get to it (I'm going in order). I've also never seen the miniseries. I don't want anything spoiled for me until I finally read it!

So if I didn't particularly enjoy The Stand (don't hate me), would I enjoy The Fireman? I really liked Heart-Shaped Box but not some of his other stuff.

The Fireman is definitely different from The Stand in many ways (and quite a bit shorter), but it deals with similar themes of how we reconstruct the world after an apocalyptic event and the fine lines between good and evil. Definitely worth a read, and hard to compare to Hill's other books- I'd say it is much more complex in theme and characters than Heart Shaped Box. Nothing like Horns if that wasn't your thing, most people agree that is probably Hill's weakest book. It was a weird one but I enjoyed it.

Hey, Michelle, I liked Horns a lot. In case you want to read it, here's a link to my five-star review. I start The Fireman tomorrow.

Welcome to you both.

Sounds great Katie. Lot's of CONSTANT readers here. Looking forward to sharing ideas with you.

Such a rare talent.
Nice to meet you.

Hi Katie! I have some friends who read but not as much as me or not the same books as me so that's also why I've become more active on Goodreads. I love talking about the books I have read and get ideas on what to read next. Welcome!

Hi, Katie, and welcome! Carrie was one of my first books as well. Can't wait to see how you like the new books you get!!

Am also on the hunt for other authors. (Am currently reading Wilbur Smith's The Quest - having read the first 3 in that very good Egyptian series.) Not a huge fan of Joe Hill. Did quite like Neil Gaiman, but he just tends to be a little too 'fantasy' for my complete liking.
Sometimes read a bit of erotica, in my own quest to understand what my wife wants from me in order to find me attractive :).
All author recommends appreciated.
Cheers
Andrew

Welcome, Andrew!
Hope you're enjoying going through the King again! Salems Lot is one of my all-time favorites.
I would recommend Dean Koontz for any King fan, because his novel genres also vary- there are some with horror elements, some with more fantasy, some with no fantasy at all, but like King, he sees the humor in everything. I recommend Dragon Tears especially to any King fan- there's a character I find just as creepy as Tak from Desperation/the Regulators. It also has the best first line of any book I've ever read: "Tuesday was a fine California day, full of sunshine and promise, until Harry Lyon had to shoot someone at lunch."
I also love Life Expectancy by Koontz, which has a lot of plot twists and humorous elements.
I also enjoy Gaiman, but I like some of his books much more than the others. I have heard from a lot of people that they feel the same way about Joe Hill, and will be trying him next myself. Happy reading!

Try Karen Slaughter... Pretty Girls is very rough stuff but "unputdownable"

I agree with this recommendation. It's gruesome but that did not stop me from racing through it.

However, I will try the ones you suggested.
Nick, seen a lot of you buddy; you're like a foundation stone here; good to see. When I see your name I know I'm on the right site. Thanks, I will try Pretty Girls.

Make sure you read the Dark Tower series in order though Noelia.

Thanks, Andrew, when the book keeps you up all night blame Rhian, she recommended it. She also suggested Night Film by Marisha Pessl, a really great read... sort of a multimedia novel with web pages and headlines built into it. It's a little enigmatic, where Pretty Girls goes straight for the gut... with a machete.

Make sure you read the Dark Tower series in order though Noelia."

I just wanted to say, The Long Walk is one of my favorites as well. I read it years ago in a collection of stories and it had a lasting affect on me. I think it's about time I buy the book and add it to my personal collection!
