* Jenn * (just-jenn) | 14 comments Nick: I'm sad to say I read the book only once and it was a library book from school (many years ago). Since then I have bought all Stephen books to add to my library. I was just going through the comments for Christine and it brought back so many memories! I've actually just ordered it online so that I may re-read and add to my library :)

Hope you like it this time through. I remember thinking it was even better the second time through... so many years later.

Tiffany Hello! I'm Tiffany from North Carolina (usa) I've been a long time fan of King, ever since picking up The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon while babysitting one night. I love seeing some of you saying this book is in your list of favorites as I don't often hear it mentioned at all!

I introduced my best friend to him and we've been a two person little book club with the goal to read everything of his! So I'm glad I found this little group.

We are both actually got lucky enough to get tickets to the End of Watch book tour! So so excited about that. :)

H (hattie123) A friend recently bought me a Christine patch for my denim jacket. It's in the typography of the Christine cover from the eighties with the skull in motion. I haven't read the book yet but plan to very soon!

You just don't hear it brought up much! But I'm sure the fact that it was the first book of him I read and started my love for King has something to do with it being a favorite!

Manuel Hey everyone :D

I'm Manuel and I'm from Austria. I've read a few of Stephen King's books so far and I really enjoyed all of them. My favourite would probably be "The Stand". Currently, I'm reading the second novel of the "Dark Tower" and I've also started the current group read "A Head Full Of Ghosts" a few minutes ago.

Bill Murray Hello, I am Bill from West Virginia, USA. I have been reading King for a little over a decade. My favorites are Carrie, Colorado Kid, and his collection Full Dark, No Stars.

Am looking forward to seeing him on his End of Watch tour when he comes to my home state!

Anyway, excited about joining this group and reading through the posts.

Ben Jr. Hello fellow King readers.
My name is Benjamin King (no relation), and I've been a reader and fan of King for a little over 30 years. Except I've only read his works of horror. With the exception of a few Bachman books, his non-horror efforts I like to avoid.

Hey Benjamin - I find he mixes horror into even his non-horror efforts. Try 11/22/63, at least at that start things get pretty tense.

Ben Jr. To Nick

I'm so unfamiliar with the way you reply on these boards that I just know I'm doing this all wrong. Anyway, on your advice, I've started reading and am already in the middle of Stephen King's '11/22/63' (which is the reason for the late reply). I really enjoyed the first hundred or so pages, because the character was adjusting himself to the consequences and repercussions of backwards time-travel. I found his original adventures quite entertaining (it's sorta copying Ted Brautigan's time travels in one of the Dark Tower novels). But now that I've ventured into the area of the novel that is his main objective (J.F.K.), the entertainment has slowed to a snails pace. I'll be finishing it since I've gotten this far, but I hope something happens further along that renews my interest.

message 1974: by Nick (new)

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments Benjamin:

I guess I don't really know the best way to reply either, I just bounce around a lot, responding when I think I can offer some advice. Anyway, I was thinking of the scenes in 11/22/63 where the hero has to save the little girl from being murdered by dealing with her violent father. I thought that was a tense horror novella buried in the middle of a piece of historic fiction. He does that again later on in the same book which turns into a love story about half way through. And all of that is separate and apart from the Oswald story. Whether or not there's enough tension to make up for the JFK focus which grows stronger toward the end of the book, I'm not sure. I hope it will be entertaining enough for you. I liked it. Thanks, BTW, for getting back to me.

Nick

Angelo (angelominnm) Hello Everyone. My name is Angelo and I am an operating room nurse from New Mexico. I have been a Steven King fan since my teen years. I am presently going for my masters degree so spare 'non medical -- read boring' reading time is precious. It is a major source of relaxation. I have read about half of his books. My spouse surprised me last week with a ticket to see him next week when he comes to Albuquerque to promote 'End of Watch' I am super psyched to say the least!
Right now I am cramming to finish 'Finders Keepers' since I assume he will be discussing the Bill Hodges trilogy. When I am done, I set a new goal for myself. I am going to start with 'Carrie' and go back and re-read (or read) all of his books in order of publication. I think it will be interesting to see his progression.
Anyway, I am glad I found this group on Goodreads and I look forward 'meeting' all of you.
Have a great day and week! Angelo

Nicole Power (nicolepower) | 295 comments Hello, all!

My name is Nicole. I'm 26. My stepfather's favorite author is Stephen King and he had shelves of King books and so after I saw IT as a film, I borrowed the book and then I just kept borrowing them. I had read a few, then about ten years ago my stepdad realized I hadn't read the Dark Tower series yet and that was a life-changing recommendation. 10 years later and it is still the best series I have ever read and he's definitely my favorite author as well.

I just read Bazaar of Bad Dreams and it was great. Ur stole the show for sure. Next for me is Mr. Mercedes and Finders Keepers, which I found together like new in my favorite used bookshop :).

Tiffany, I had the same King style revelation! I was given, "The Wastelands" Dark Tower #3 to read many years ago and read it front to back in a day. It was my introduction to Stephen King books and I promised to finish the entire series. Well, life got in the way and just recently when I heard they were going to make a Dark Tower movie, I decided it was time to go. I have read through Dark Tower 1-3 and just finished The Stand last night (reading them in a somewhat logical order of how Dark Tower coincides with the other tie-in books). I can honestly say I am hooked. I can't stop going to bookstores and buying SK books!

message 1983: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Power (nicolepower) | 295 comments Hi, Lurosia,

The Waste Lands is my favorite in the series to this day! I think it's brilliant, and like you, I couldn't put it down the first time I read it.

I have been going through and slowly re-reading the series over the past year around other books, and trying to include as many related books as possible, especially the ones I haven't read yet. Salem's Lot is my favorite related work!

If anyone is interested, here is a blogpost I used to help me decide how many of the related works I wanted to include this go around:

Nicole, this is actually exactly the same blog I read and am currently following! I am on The Eyes of The Dragon and although I thought it would be a bit more childish and boring, I am finding it quite a fun, quick read!

message 1985: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Power (nicolepower) | 295 comments That's great! I read Eyes of the Dragon because of the list too. It took me a bit of time to adjust to the style it was written in, but it was quick and fun! :).

message 1990: by Spencer (new)

Spencer (spencershelton) | 3 comments Hello fellow King fans!

My favorite King book is 11/22/63: A Novel. Jake resonated so well with me and his journey was fascinating for me. Also, I really enjoyed Under the Dome. That novel is a brick, but man did King characterize Big Jim so well for me to absolutely despise and wish death upon, which he teases so many times.

Also really enjoy his humanity works like Shawshank and Green Mile. He does so well at showing the human condition in those works. It's funny how many don't know he wrote those because they aren't horror or paranormal.

Currently I'm reading Finders Keepers. I'm liking it more than Mr. Mercedes, but I still think someone else is writing Hodges and Holly's parts. Their characters are awkward and cardboard to me compared to Pete and Morrie's characters. I love Pete and Morrie's chapters and cringe when it gets back to H&H. Still need to write my review for Mr. Mercedes.

Anyways, add me if you'd like. I'm always looking for Goodreads friend with similar reading interests for good book recs.

Cheers,

Spencer

Kendra Klasek | 2 comments Hi, guys!! I'm Kendra. Grew up in south FL, currently in Nebraska, but moving to Japan next month. I'm a HUGE Stephen King fan (as well as Joe Hill).

I'm ever so slightly obsessed. I watch everything I can find of King on YouTube (such a great and generous speaker on the craft of writing) and found and fell I love with the Stephen King Podcast.

It's hard to name a favorite King novel because I love so many, but if pressed, I'd say Duma Key, followed closely by It.

Glad to find this group!

Hi, Kendra, welcome!

IT is the first King book I ever read, it's definitely one of the greats :). I'm just about to start in on Joe Hill, I just purchased a book and about twelve people have recommended the graphic novels he wrote the story of, Locke & Key, so I want to try that as well.

Having a deadline of a movie really helps kick things into gear! haha.

I'm actually reading 3 books right now because I couldn't wait to start End of Watch! (2 King, one Jodi P.) I haven't read any of the dark tower series, but I own book 1-4 I think (maybe 1-5?)

Dennis Anthony | 16 comments My favorite King book is 11/22/63: A Novel. Jake resonated so well with me and his journey was fascinating for me."

It's also my favorite King book, although I really enjoyed Mr. Mercedes and the rest of that trilogy. On the other hand, the really popular "The Stand," (know as "The Slog" in my house) was tough going for me. Thing is, even when I don't especially enjoy the book, I am always captivated by King's finally crafted characters. Nobody does it better.

Kendra Klasek | 2 comments Damian wrote: "Welcome guys! Duma Key is one of my favorites as well. I don't hear many people mention that one."

Thank you! I just love how deftly he deals with loss of language. Something about that really resonated. As a writer, myself, losing the ability to fully express myself is one of my worst fears (being trapped inside my own head). I also can relate to the south FL locale, having frequented the Keys many times.

I sometimes even find myself thinking "Go sit in the friend!" when I'm about to sit down.

Amy Hoelmer (amyhoelmer) Hey Everyone,
I’m Amy. I am of course, a huge reader and Stephen King fan.
I have read 31 of his books.
Some of my favorites are:
- Salems Lot (it was my first about 12 years ago)
- The Long Walk (I audiobooked it and Kirby Heyborne is AMAZING)
- Misery
- Cujo (because Cujo just wanted to be a good dog lol)
- Joyland (it made me cry)
None of my friends read at all, so after I read a Stephen King I think this group will be a great way to get my feelings out.
