Hope you like it this time through. I remember thinking it was even better the second time through... so many years later.

I introduced my best friend to him and we've been a two person little book club with the goal to read everything of his! So I'm glad I found this little group.
We are both actually got lucky enough to get tickets to the End of Watch book tour! So so excited about that. :)

Hi Tiffany. I love this book and have read it twice. It stays one of my favorites.

You just don't hear it brought up much! But I'm sure the fact that it was the first book of him I read and started my love for King has something to do with it being a favorite!

I'm Manuel and I'm from Austria. I've read a few of Stephen King's books so far and I really enjoyed all of them. My favourite would probably be "The Stand". Currently, I'm reading the second novel of the "Dark Tower" and I've also started the current group read "A Head Full Of Ghosts" a few minutes ago.

Welcome Manuel! You're in for a treat with your current book.

Hey, Manuel, welcome.

Am looking forward to seeing him on his End of Watch tour when he comes to my home state!
Anyway, excited about joining this group and reading through the posts.

My name is Benjamin King (no relation), and I've been a reader and fan of King for a little over 30 years. Except I've only read his works of horror. With the exception of a few Bachman books, his non-horror efforts I like to avoid.

Me and my friend will be at the WV tour too! Can't wait to see him.
Welcome to the group!
Hello everyone!! I am so happy to be here! I love Stephen King pretty much! Hope you do well!

Hey Benjamin - I find he mixes horror into even his non-horror efforts. Try 11/22/63, at least at that start things get pretty tense.

It was one of my first King's books too. I even draw a landscape of a part of the woods that was described in the book. Still have it after all those years :D

That is so awesome!! That's something I don't think I'd ever get rid of. I love rereading any book of his because you always find something new!

Hey, Tiffany, just wanted to add that The Girl Who is way, way up on my list of King's best. Glad to find another fan.

I'm so unfamiliar with the way you reply on these boards that I just know I'm doing this all wrong. Anyway, on your advice, I've started reading and am already in the middle of Stephen King's '11/22/63' (which is the reason for the late reply). I really enjoyed the first hundred or so pages, because the character was adjusting himself to the consequences and repercussions of backwards time-travel. I found his original adventures quite entertaining (it's sorta copying Ted Brautigan's time travels in one of the Dark Tower novels). But now that I've ventured into the area of the novel that is his main objective (J.F.K.), the entertainment has slowed to a snails pace. I'll be finishing it since I've gotten this far, but I hope something happens further along that renews my interest.

I guess I don't really know the best way to reply either, I just bounce around a lot, responding when I think I can offer some advice. Anyway, I was thinking of the scenes in 11/22/63 where the hero has to save the little girl from being murdered by dealing with her violent father. I thought that was a tense horror novella buried in the middle of a piece of historic fiction. He does that again later on in the same book which turns into a love story about half way through. And all of that is separate and apart from the Oswald story. Whether or not there's enough tension to make up for the JFK focus which grows stronger toward the end of the book, I'm not sure. I hope it will be entertaining enough for you. I liked it. Thanks, BTW, for getting back to me.
Nick

Right now I am cramming to finish 'Finders Keepers' since I assume he will be discussing the Bill Hodges trilogy. When I am done, I set a new goal for myself. I am going to start with 'Carrie' and go back and re-read (or read) all of his books in order of publication. I think it will be interesting to see his progression.
Anyway, I am glad I found this group on Goodreads and I look forward 'meeting' all of you.
Have a great day and week! Angelo

Hey, Angelo. Welcome.

My name is Nicole. I'm 26. My stepfather's favorite author is Stephen King and he had shelves of King books and so after I saw IT as a film, I borrowed the book and then I just kept borrowing them. I had read a few, then about ten years ago my stepdad realized I hadn't read the Dark Tower series yet and that was a life-changing recommendation. 10 years later and it is still the best series I have ever read and he's definitely my favorite author as well.
I just read Bazaar of Bad Dreams and it was great. Ur stole the show for sure. Next for me is Mr. Mercedes and Finders Keepers, which I found together like new in my favorite used bookshop :).

Hi, Nicole, UR was my favorite too.

Tiffany, I had the same King style revelation! I was given, "The Wastelands" Dark Tower #3 to read many years ago and read it front to back in a day. It was my introduction to Stephen King books and I promised to finish the entire series. Well, life got in the way and just recently when I heard they were going to make a Dark Tower movie, I decided it was time to go. I have read through Dark Tower 1-3 and just finished The Stand last night (reading them in a somewhat logical order of how Dark Tower coincides with the other tie-in books). I can honestly say I am hooked. I can't stop going to bookstores and buying SK books!

The Waste Lands is my favorite in the series to this day! I think it's brilliant, and like you, I couldn't put it down the first time I read it.
I have been going through and slowly re-reading the series over the past year around other books, and trying to include as many related books as possible, especially the ones I haven't read yet. Salem's Lot is my favorite related work!
If anyone is interested, here is a blogpost I used to help me decide how many of the related works I wanted to include this go around:

Nicole, this is actually exactly the same blog I read and am currently following! I am on The Eyes of The Dragon and although I thought it would be a bit more childish and boring, I am finding it quite a fun, quick read!

I am Akshay Dharamkar and I absolutely fucking love Stephen King
I am happy to have found this group with all of the other people who've been deranged, thanks to the King of Horror.
My most favourite Stephen King books/novellas are
It, Joyland, The Shining, Pet Semetary, Misery, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, The Body, Mr. Mercedes and End of Watch

name's Elham, a senior year college student.
i just started with stephen kings books, i read The Dead Zone and The Shining which is EPIC !
then i got way too excited to experince further more of his writings, so i picked IT and i'm currently reading it, so any any any suggestions of your favorite books of his would be highly appreciated!
glad i have a lot of his good books yet to discover..
have a good day

Happy reading!

My favorite King book is 11/22/63: A Novel. Jake resonated so well with me and his journey was fascinating for me. Also, I really enjoyed Under the Dome. That novel is a brick, but man did King characterize Big Jim so well for me to absolutely despise and wish death upon, which he teases so many times.
Also really enjoy his humanity works like Shawshank and Green Mile. He does so well at showing the human condition in those works. It's funny how many don't know he wrote those because they aren't horror or paranormal.
Currently I'm reading Finders Keepers. I'm liking it more than Mr. Mercedes, but I still think someone else is writing Hodges and Holly's parts. Their characters are awkward and cardboard to me compared to Pete and Morrie's characters. I love Pete and Morrie's chapters and cringe when it gets back to H&H. Still need to write my review for Mr. Mercedes.
Anyways, add me if you'd like. I'm always looking for Goodreads friend with similar reading interests for good book recs.
Cheers,
Spencer

I'm ever so slightly obsessed. I watch everything I can find of King on YouTube (such a great and generous speaker on the craft of writing) and found and fell I love with the Stephen King Podcast.
It's hard to name a favorite King novel because I love so many, but if pressed, I'd say Duma Key, followed closely by It.
Glad to find this group!

Welcome, Spencer!
I read the Green Mile this year and it's one of my favorites. I won't lie, my eyes leaked a little. Mr. Mercedes and Finder's Keepers are my next King books to read, looking forward to your reviews!

Hi, Kendra, welcome!
IT is the first King book I ever read, it's definitely one of the greats :). I'm just about to start in on Joe Hill, I just purchased a book and about twelve people have recommended the graphic novels he wrote the story of, Locke & Key, so I want to try that as well.

Having a deadline of a movie really helps kick things into gear! haha.
I'm actually reading 3 books right now because I couldn't wait to start End of Watch! (2 King, one Jodi P.) I haven't read any of the dark tower series, but I own book 1-4 I think (maybe 1-5?)

It's also my favorite King book, although I really enjoyed Mr. Mercedes and the rest of that trilogy. On the other hand, the really popular "The Stand," (know as "The Slog" in my house) was tough going for me. Thing is, even when I don't especially enjoy the book, I am always captivated by King's finally crafted characters. Nobody does it better.

Thank you! I just love how deftly he deals with loss of language. Something about that really resonated. As a writer, myself, losing the ability to fully express myself is one of my worst fears (being trapped inside my own head). I also can relate to the south FL locale, having frequented the Keys many times.
I sometimes even find myself thinking "Go sit in the friend!" when I'm about to sit down.

I love it... think Duma Key is one of King's best.

I’m Amy. I am of course, a huge reader and Stephen King fan.
I have read 31 of his books.
Some of my favorites are:
- Salems Lot (it was my first about 12 years ago)
- The Long Walk (I audiobooked it and Kirby Heyborne is AMAZING)
- Misery
- Cujo (because Cujo just wanted to be a good dog lol)
- Joyland (it made me cry)
None of my friends read at all, so after I read a Stephen King I think this group will be a great way to get my feelings out.
