Allan (allan23) | 1 comments Hello, my name is Allan. I started reading Stephen King when I was a teenager. The first book was Salem's Lot. Back then I couldn't get enough, but then for some reason I stopped reading his books. It has been only in the past couple years that I have rediscovered him again. I look forward to discussing and checking out more of his books that I have bee missing out on!

Welcome back to world of King, Allan! Salem's Lot is one of my all-time favorites alongside The Shining, The Dead Zone, Cujo, Pet Sematary, It, and Misery.

Damian | 36 comments Hello, my name is Damian, and I'm a constant reader. I read everything, but SK has had a special place in my heart ever since The Stand. I have enjoyed how his writing style has progressed over the years into what it is today. I do not agree with many that say that his best writing was with his first books. The Shining, The Talisman, 11/22/63, and Joyland are some of my favorites. They are spread out across his entire career, do ya kennit? I also enjoy reading books by up and coming authors, so if any of you have a book out there, add me and let me know! I've already noticed a few writers right here in this ka-tet, and I plan to get what books I can find. Anyway, looking forward to meeting many of you! Long days and pleasant nights.

Hey! Thanks for reading my review. Glad you're looking forward to the next one :) Sorry for the delay between them, I just wanted to give myself a timetable I could stick to -- especially with the bigger books (plus there's so many non-King books I want to get my teeth into!). Just about to crack open 'Salem's Lot -- can't wait!

PS thanks for flagging up that Guardian segment -- I'll check it out... after I've written each review :)

Hi Nick, glad you liked it. Sorry for the delay replying, I had a few technical issues. I haven't actually read On Writing yet (it's on the list!) but King did write a great introduction to the edition I read which could well have been reworked (or taken wholesale) from On Writing... I'll find out in a few years!

James Peaton | 6 comments Hello, my name is James Peaton, and I am a reader and writer living in Mesa Arizona. I have been a "Constant Reader" for a long time, and have almost all of Stephen king's books on my shelf. I love to discuss his stories and have to say he is the writer that made me want to write.

Me too James... in fact as I reread Christine these days I'm finding that I used it as a model for some of my scenes. It's a real primer on how to write old time horror fiction. How did he influence your writing?

message 1866: by James (new)

James Peaton | 6 comments I love the way he writes things that you can NEVER get out of your head. I want to write like that! To be able to invade a persons mind (and dreams) long after they have finished reading your work. Unforgettable. When you write a book, it will be written forever. That seems like a little piece of Immortality. But having someone remember parts of your story in their mind, for as long as they live is a lot bigger piece, especially if it influences the work they do. That's what he's done to me.

I totally agree James. I had Revival on audio quite a while back, and I can never forget Astrid Soderberg, it's the name, and the character. It's the whole package. King knows how to snatch all the details and plant them in your brain in such a way as you NEVER foget. There's always a detail or two from every story that sticks with you.

Welcome James! I do some work in Arizona from time to time. Nice place.

I agree that King has a way of creating the most memorable characters and stories. He is so good at using horrific events to impact you in a way that you won't forget. I don't think anyone does it better.

Iní (ini6) | 18 comments Hello everyone, my name is Ini and I'm from Ireland. I read many Stephen King books when I was a teenager, but gave up in my early twenties. Now I'm in my thirties and have picked up an old, battered copy of Carrie and have been immediately sucked back in. I have a feeling I'm going to embark on a long journey going through King's catalogue now, and I'm really looking forward to it. I hope to make some new friends here to talk about his books with.

Having read most of them already, I do with I was back in your seat Ini....I wish I was embarking on that journey for the first time again. Happy Reading!!!

message 1872: by Iní (new)

Iní (ini6) | 18 comments Thanks James. I had read a good few back in my teenage years, but I can't really remember which ones now, or much about them, so I suppose it is sort of like reading them for the first time. Though reading through Carrie now I am remembering certain things about it – mostly how much I enjoyed it.

sasha gorham | 8 comments Hi.
My name is Sasha. King in my favorite author. I read quite a bit when I was younger, but fell alway when I was having trouble reading and trying to go to school due to some cognitive issues. I've not caught up with all his books but he is still my favorite.
I listen to audiobooks at night while I'm sleeping and I've been listening an relistening to "IT" for probably 140some times now. I have other audiobooks that I've also listened/listen to, but that's the big one. I probably know "IT" like the back of my hand. maybe.
Anyway, just wanted to join and say hi, and, and hope this gets me through some of his other books I've missed in the years I was having troubles and not reading anything.
:) sasha

I honestly cannot say I am a true Stephen King fan, as I have only read a couple of his books, and part of The Gunslinger. However, I just finished The Mist, and I am excited to read another fantastic horror novel by this amazingly talented author.

Glenn Rolfe | 4 comments Hey gang, my name is Glenn. I was introduced to King's work when I was 17. A friend gave me a copy of The Dark Half. I told him I didn't read books, but he said I'd like this one. He was right.
Since then, I've gone on to read a ton of King books and love them all. My favorite is 'Salem's Lot for far too many reasons to post here.
Other favorites include The Shining, Joyland, Pet Semetary, The Girl Who loved Tom Gordon, The Dead Zone, Dreamcatcher, The Mist, and The Green Mile.
He's one of the people who made me want to become a writer and for that I am forever indebted.

Samantha Polfer | 7 comments Hi! My name is Samantha. I grew up with Stephen King all around me. Books, movies, my parents loved him. Once I got old enough, I started reading him too. I think my first SK book was Christine when I was 15. :) Right now, I am reading The Gunslinger series (I'm on book 5), and 11.22.63 (for the 3rd time). I'm also watching the show on Hulu. I plan to go to Reno in June to see him speak. He's a great author.

Sofia Ribeiro Hey my name is Sofia and I've read my first King's book last year and it was The Eyes of the Dragon. So far I've read/ listened to 9 King's books and I'd say that my favorite one so far is IT but I'm currently reading The Shinning.... maybe IT won't last long on its position.....
Anyway I love many other authors such as Tess Gerritsen, Haruki Murakami and E.A. Poe

Welcome Sofia! Let us know what you think about The Shining once you're done. I'm interested to see if you end up liking it more than It. Jack's level of complexity as a character is something that I've had difficulty finding again in other characters.

H (hattie123) Hi all,

I'm Hattie and live in London.

I'm on my 19th King novel, which I'm guessing isn't that impressive to many of the members of this group.

The first book I came across was IT, when my family took a holiday to the US in 1998. I was 12 and found it in a Rhode Island hotel lobby. I was instantly sucked into the story, as I have been with every King book since.

I'm currently reading 11.22.63. It's great so far.

I also intend to read End of the Watch, when it comes out. I loved Mr Mercedes but I wasn't so impressed with Finders Keepers. Hopefully the final installment of the trilogy will be better.
