Kristina Masset (kristinalynn11) Hi my name is Kristina, I'm a huge kings fan, have been since I was young when I noticed it was all my mom read! I'm currently reading Storm of the Century! I recently have been through some problems, and my family moved and I lost a bunch of books, including SK books and I'm pretty heartbroken about it. But I'm reading what I do have. I didn't always have time to read but now I'm finally catching up! I'd love for anyone to tell me what to read next, or tell me what they thought of Storm Of The Century!? And I'm open to friend requests as well!
Happy reading!!

message 1652: by Lena (new)

Lena Looks like the group might be reading Bazaar next month. I've just started Needful Things.

Kerry | 5 comments Hi, I am still learning how to use Goodreads, so I just figured out how to join the groups and make friends. I am a huge King fan! I try to read everything of his I can get my hands on. I have re read several of his, but not all. My favorite has always been The Stand. I will try to keep up, but I'm not very good at intelligent discussions. I'm not stupid, just not very articulate. haha

Greg Leaping (leapingbear) | 1 comments Hi, I'm Greg and my favorite author is Stephen King. I'm proud to say I own all his books. King is a master story teller who can build and create worls and people faced by different circumstances and it's always a new and fresh idea. One that challenges our minds and keep us turning pages wanting more. Ive got his new book The Bazaar of Bad Dreams on reserve at the Library, and I can't wait to get my hands on it and stay up all night reading it. After that I'll reread The Dark Tower Series. I'm so glad I found this group and look forward to all the discussions.

Hi Greg!

I also collect SK books. I have almost a complete collection of first editions. I have been collecting for about 25 years. Still looking (and saving $$) for first editions of the early books - Carrie, Salem's Lot, and the Shining, but I have most of the rest.

There is just no one who writes like him. I just ordered Bazaar and it should be here in a couple of days. Can't wait to read it...

Welcome Greg. King definitely earned his reputation honestly. There is no other that can tell a tale and with the consistent quality that he's been able to do for 40 years. Do you have a favorite story?

message 1663: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Jones | 2 comments Hi, I'm Jennifer! I've been a King fan for about 12 years now, and I haven't looked back! The first of his books I read was Rose Madder, and it's still one of my favorites. There's no one better.

message 1664: by Dimitrios (new)

Dimitrios (dimgiav) Hi there, Im Dimitris! (It's greek for Jim). I'm a huge fan of Steven King. I love all his books, stories and film adaptations too! Next book i'm gonna read is "Under the Dome" (or The Dome for short).

message 1671: by Travis (new)

Travis I guess I should finally introduce myself since I think I've been a member since about the time Revival came out. I'm roughly a quarter of the way through King's books. I tried reading The Eyes of the Dragon back in middle school but didn't like/appreciate it back then so never finished it. Then I read The Stand during my college orientation and loved it. But I did not return to King until he finished The Dark Tower series with the eponymous The Dark Tower. I was really into horror movies and Western movies, specifically Clint Eastwood, at the time. When I heard the vague premise of The Dark Tower I picked up The Gunslinger. Yet again, I didn't stick with King, though. Eventually I discovered how all his books are related, usually via The Dark Tower. That gripped me enough to start reading more and start buying all the paperbacks I could find in used book stores (I was obsessed with getting matching covers but alas I had to abandon that quest). Now he's the only author I buy every new book in hardback, sight unseen even. I love that he's not just the schlock horror writer the general public sees him as. He creates some of the most memorable characters (I just finished Dolores Claiborne, for example). His writing style is very conversational and familiar; he may write some tomes but they never drag along nor take forever to read.

I've only read the first four volumes of The Dark Tower and my favorite of that is The Waste Lands.

So far my favorite King books have been Carrie and The Stand.

SpookyBoogie Welcome everybody. Glad to have you here. I just finished reading Lisey's story for the first time and throughly enjoyed it.

Okay, Travis, welcome - though I'm sure you already feel welcome. Interesting story of how you got into King. I agree with your assessment of his talents completely, but suggest you go one number up to find the best of the Dark Tower Series.

message 1676: by Lena (new)

Lena You will enjoy it. The Caste Rock books are a solid place to start King.

message 1677: by Lena (new)

Lena Castle Rock, bloody phone!

message 1678: by Lena (new)

John:

Not sure of the exact order of those books, but I would definitely read the dead zone before cujo which is another castle rock book that refers directly back to the dead zone. Or to say it another way, after you read The Dead Zone read Cujo.

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments John wrote: "Okay, thanks a lot, Nick. Much appreciated. I had no idea there was a continuity to the books when I picked this up, so I suppose it was my further good luck."

Not really a lot of continuity but some.

message 1681: by Keyser Soze (new)

Keyser Soze (truman19) Hi, lawyer, ex-engineer, Brisbane, Australia. Am not sure what I am going to do when King hangs up his pen. Just finished Revival. Have read most of his back catalogue, apart perhaps from some short stories. Liked Scott Smith. I have purchased an old King to re-read (perhaps it is Salem's Lot). Also re-read The Shining recently. Have a few movie adaptations there I need to watch too. I also have another Neil Gaiman there I need to read.

message 1682: by Lena (new)

Lena Looking forward to chatting Andrew.

message 1683: by Keyser Soze (new)

Keyser Soze (truman19) Hey, after much nagging, I got my wife to read a King novel, Duma Key. She didn't like it. Not in to the 'supernatural'. What do you think is the best one for her to read?

message 1684: by Lena (new)

Lena Different Seasons

message 1685: by Keyser Soze (new)

Keyser Soze (truman19) That the one with 4 connecting stories?

message 1686: by Lena (new)

Lena They are not connected, but they are all good. Three are movies.

message 1687: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 17 comments Joyland or Mr. Mercedes for great stories without much of a supernatural element.

It depends. What does she like to read in general?

Maybe The Green Mile or The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon or Misery.

message 1689: by Keyser Soze (new)

Keyser Soze (truman19) Thanks. You know, I don't think I have ever read The Green Mile myself. Not sure why. The GWLTG will be way too slow and pointless for Cath. Misery was good.

Cath actually mainly reads 'girl meets hunky guy and they have a torrid love affair'. Lol.

message 1691: by Lena (new)

Lena Then I recommend Cover Me and Woman on the Run.

message 1692: by Keyser Soze (new)

Keyser Soze (truman19) Yes, exactly that! Read 50 Shades stuff. Maybe I should read them; maybe I'll learn something.

message 1693: by Keyser Soze (new)

Keyser Soze (truman19) Sorry, meant to say "Real 50 Shades stuff".

message 1694: by Lena (last edited Dec 01, 2015 09:15PM) (new)

Lena Well both of those books I mentioned are my favorites that jive with your first description but do not include BDSM.

message 1695: by Keyser Soze (new)

Keyser Soze (truman19) I have listed them as "Want to read". Thanks.

message 1698: by Keyser Soze (new)

Keyser Soze (truman19) All good. Lena has kindly recommended a couple of crackers to expand my knowledge :).

message 1699: by Keyser Soze (new)

Keyser Soze (truman19) Mind you, I think I am going to suggest to my wife she read Dolores Claiborne.

message 1700: by Lena (new)

Lena Sounds like fair marriage. Two romantic suspense novels for one more chance to love King.
