I'll check it out. I think I can borrow Kindle Books for free.

this high five you received gives you a spot on the Hall of Fame of Constant Readers!

Welcome

Thanks, Andrea. If and when I figure out how to attach photos, I'll share them with the group. Sadly, the high five was not captured on camera :(

Kandice | 4387 comments Welcome Claire! You certainly can't accuse King of overt romanticism, although I do think Roland Deschain may be one of the most romantic characters ever written, but not in the smoochy sense. In the innate sense.

Emanuela (ela_rest) | 17 comments Hi! My name is Emanuela, I'm new on Goodreads, I'm from Italy (so please forgive the errors I'll surely make)... And of course I'm a great fan of The King. The first book I read was Pet Sematary, chosen randomly between the ones on the shelf dedicated to him in my town'n library... And it was love at first sight! If I had to choose a favourite I'd say The Dark Tower Series (I'm a real Tower junkie) and The Stand, but I really enjoyed also Misery, Christine, Salem's Lot, Bag of Bones, The Green Mile, Needful Things... And I still have so many to read! See you around in the group!

message 1556: by Lena (new)

Lena Your favorites are the ones I've been reading for the first time this year! I'm loving King too and I'm on the road to the Tower. Continuing next month with Wizard and Glass.

yay another "Tower" junkie!!!!!!!! Where do you stand on the film adaptations? I've still got my fingers crossed for Javier Bardem....anyone but Russell Crowe...

message 1558: by Lena (new)

Lena Timothy Olyphant!

message 1559: by Ron (new)

Ron | 134 comments Olyphant is a natural for the gunslinger type. He's been carrying guns on set for the last 10 years! Then again, Bardem could definitely play the more serious Roland. Hey, I'd like to see Clint Eastwood's son Scott in a western.

message 1560: by Sara the Librarian (new)

Sara the Librarian (museoffire) Is there a Dark Tower adaptation thread? We should probably move this there if there is...

ps. Timothy Olyphant seems a bit young...

message 1561: by Lena (new)

Lena He looked older as the "dad" in I Am Number Four. He can do it!

@Sara In my heart I'll always imagine the perfect Roland as Clint Eastwood in the Dollars Trilogy, but since my dream will remain a dream, I think about Javier Bardem or Viggo Mortensen (I agree on Russell Crowe!) Yes, maybe it's better if we talk in the thread if there is one...

message 1563: by SpookyBoogie (last edited Oct 15, 2015 11:45AM) (new)

SpookyBoogie Hi! I'm Jo and I became Stephen King's Constant Reader at the age of 10 with The Shining. Since then I have gone on to read nearly everything he has written plus many other books. My Stephen King favorite and only book that has ever given me nightmares is Desperation.

message 1564: by Lena (new)

Lena Wow you started young! Desperation was such a lame movie the book must be much much better. For me it was IT by miles. Just thinking about our reality hanging by threads away from endless Stygian nightmares... Shiver.

message 1565: by SpookyBoogie (new)

SpookyBoogie I did start young. My older sister (4 years older) checked The Shining out from the library and she never got into it. I couldn't stop staring at the cover with those eyes on the dust jacket. One day I picked it up and stayed up all night to finish it. The movie was so lame by comparison. My mom wasn't big on the idea of me reading his work but by ten I was reading at a college level and couldn't find much to challenge me. IT was the first time I read a book where the characters were scared and strong and everything in between. The idea that you could be brave in the midst of your fear was transformative to me. I also loved that Eddie was asthmatic like me, forever chilling on the sidelines with my inhaler in my pocket.

Brenda (brendabren) | 23 comments Welcome Jo and all the other new people I've yet to say hi to!

message 1569: by Nick (new)

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments Welcome all... SpookyBoogie, I can't think of a more valid confirmation of spookiness than nightmares. I never cared for Desperation even after 2 reads and in spite of lots of recommendations by friends, but hey, any book or movie that that causes nightmares moves way up on my list of powerful books.

message 1570: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey (klpurcell) Hail and well met! I've been a fan for a long while now, and I just got started on Goodreads again today. I hope to keep up with it. I'm currently working on my goal of reading every Stephen King book... its not an easy feat. My favorite so far is Wolves of the Calla, and obviously I'm kind of in love with the whole Dark Tower series.

message 1571: by SpookyBoogie (new)

SpookyBoogie Hi everyone who said hi and hi Kelsey! This looks like its going to be a fun, active board to be a part of! ^_^

message 1572: by E. (new)

E. | 242 comments Hi and welcome to all the new folks!

Yes Jo, it's pretty active. By the way, we are having a group read of Pet Semetary on/around Halloween. Some people have never read it, and several of us have read it in the past but will re-read it. Look for that thread and jump into the conversation. It's located under "Buddy Reads". Our group read discussions are fun.

message 1573: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (archmagetay) | 3 comments Hi everybody,

It's great to see how active this group is. My name is Tay and I'm relatively new to the Stephen King-verse (I've finished Carrie, Misery, and It). I enjoyed all three novels, and after finishing "It" (wow!), I thought it would be fun to jump into the group and read along with you in the Buddy Reads. King's a blast to read.

So! With my intro out of the way, I look forward to chatting with you on the boards : ).

Welcome and join us for Pet Semetary!

message 1575: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 17 comments Can't wait to re-read Pet Semetary with everyone! One of the most disturbing King novels for me. Not sure if it's the child element or just the themes involved but this one really made an impression on me. Looking forward to a Halloween re-read. And is there a thread for the 11/22/63 mini-series so we can discuss?!

message 1578: by Tia (new)

Tia Williams (tiawilliams) | 1 comments Hi, I'm Tia! I'm a Goodreads author...I write chick lit, but Stephen King owns my SOUL. Every night I make sure the drapes are tighter-than-tight, lest I catch a glimpse of Marjorie Glick from Salem's Lot floating outside, fangs bared. So happy to join the group!

message 1579: by Nick (new)

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments Marjorie has shown up here a few times too. But right now I'm more worried about a cat named Church.

message 1580: by Lena (new)

Lena I have a nightmare where I wake up and there are balloons softly hovering near my bed. Only Stephen King, only IT, could make that horrifying.

message 1581: by Erin (new)

Erin (ems84) | 2669 comments Welcome Tia.

message 1582: by SpookyBoogie (new)

SpookyBoogie Oh man. One of my gerbils is named Churchill and I call him Church. I never made the connection. He's an albino with red eyes.

I think you're in trouble. You don't work in a college infirmary do you?

message 1584: by Mike (new)

Mike (nmpreach) I've followed Goodreads for some time. I'm excited to see an active group of King followers. Although I've taken an extended break, I feel a need to jump back in.

message 1585: by Lena (new)

Yes. I liked it, some vary good scenes. Probably should read it again.

message 1591: by Carl (new)

Carl Goodman (chasinggoodman) | 5 comments Awesome. It seems like a quaint book only because of how he writes and it being a super natural love story. I can see Lisey's Story being really original. I have it here at home and I need to give it a shot now, sooner than later.

message 1592: by Carl (new)

Carl Goodman (chasinggoodman) | 5 comments Tom Swift, I completely forgot about 11/22/63. That is a must read for me.

I'd read 11/22/63 before Lisey (just a prersonal preference) I Iiked 11/22 better.

I was absolutely floored by Lisey's Story. I actually tend to use this book as my "user friendly" King recommendation to anyone wanting to try him who isn't sure they're into horror. Its such a wonderful character study. Its a really dark and kind of twisted love story but it also showcases his amazing gifts for setting. Its one of those book that you can really "see" when you read it.

Lena You'll enjoy it!

message 1600: by Lloyd (new)

Lloyd Andrew Green (lloydagreen) | 10 comments I'm sure that I will. Doctor Sleep was a great sequel and Bag of Bones was even better. Looking forward to others. I've read most of the oldies and now I'm catching up.
