Introduce Yourself- part 2

Welcome! And dig in. No matter where you start, you are in for a treat.

Welcome!

Welcome to the club!
Woah, what a book to start with, I absolutely love Misery! Any idea what you'll read next?

Thanks for the warm welcome! :) I'm currently reading " Cujo" had a luck at a book sale today! Yay! :)

Welcome to the group, Genova. While some aren't fans of Cujo because of its darkness, I absolutely love it for that very reason. I hope you enjoy it too.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm now having a hard time playing with my dog because of the things I've read about Cujo. Haha. My dog's a mixed breed of st. Bernard and Border collie.

Know the feeling Sarah... welcome!

Hey Jon, welcome. Tell us something about your like/dislike for the works of Mr. King.

Alright, awesome! And John, you're more than welcome to make this your first one. When would you be ready to st..."
I'll read it with you whenever you'd like to start. I'll do both at the same time.

My name is Shawn Lealos and I have been a Stephen King fan since 1989. My favorite book by him is The Stand and my favorite short story is Last Rung on the Ladder. Favorite movie is Shawshank Redemption.
I am also a Stephen King Dollar Baby Filmmaker and directed I Know What You Need back in 2003. I wrote a book about the Dollar Baby Filmmakers also, which I self published this year.
Anyway, I just love to talk Stephen King and that is why I am here.

I may catch that 'Salem's Lot thread. I've been itching to read that again lately. I read it in the 70's probably. I'm due.

I would have loved to join you buddy reading Salem's lot because I haven't read it yet and my sister always bothers me saying "go on, read it now, it's awesome!!" but atm I'm still reading Insomnia and I'm only half way through. Not sure if I can finish it until saturday, but we'll see :)
Welcome Shawn!

I am very new to goodreads but am excited to have a forum where I can explore books, and discuss them with people who have similar interests.

I'm currently re-experiencing *The Tower* on audio book and loving every minute of it. Also just finished listening to *Mr. Mercedes* which I wholeheartedly recommend.
The King novels I love I really love and the ones I've hated I've hated with the burning passion of a thousand firey suns. But that's what I love about him. I've never had a blah reaction to one of his books. He always inspires passion. I think he's horribly mislabeled by a lot of people as a straight up horror writer and I am glad beyond the telling to find this lovely group of like minded readers!
ps. I even enjoy the horrible Mick Garris tv movies...I mean c'mon does it really get better than Tim Curry's Pennywise?

hmmmmm least favorite....that's a tough one. I go through phases with certain books. I first read *IT* when I was a teenager and I just hated it. But I picked it up again maybe five years ago and now its one of my favorites. I'd say *Carrie* is probably one of my least favorites, sacrilege I know but I could never get into the style of the thing. It felt to stilted and text book to me. If I'm being honest I haven't been in love with a lot of the stuff he's put out in the last few years. I actually couldn't get through *Dr. Sleep* or *11/22/63* and *Revival* fell totally flat for me. I felt like he was losing his edge a bit. I loved *Joyland* and I'm loving the *Mr. Mercedes* trilogy though. I feel like he's found a new calling with the whole detective noir thing.
Is this your first trip through Midworld? I'm always so damn jealous of the people who get to read those books the first time through.

Blaine scares the piss outta my husband...heh heh...
I am so, so, so jealous of you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is there any way we could see it? That is incredibly cool!

John, if you can get through it the rest of the series is an epic on par with "Lord of the Rings" I kid you not. I seriously believe years from now its gonna be up there with Narnia, LOTR and Harry Potter as one of the great classic of epic fantasy.

I have not yet read any of the Dark Tower Series. I know I know...some people claim that I am not a true King fan because of it. I was more interested in stand alone books at the time, but am super excited to read this series now! From what I'm gathering here, I will definitely go with the revised version of the Gunslinger.
Sara I loved 11/22/63! But I am also going through a historical fiction phase which may have influenced my feelings.

I don't really know what it was about 11/22/63 that didn't work for me. I think I just found the story kind of plodding and I sort pooped out halfway through. I felt like I was just reading about a teacher in the 60's. There wasn't a lot of tension there for me.
Ken, I admire you what a challenge! "The Stand" will always be a top 5 for me. My husband and I frequently imitate Mr. King's lines from that miniseries...and Gary Sinise will always be the ultimate Stu Redman to me...

The Dollar Baby films are amazing and so generous of King. I learned so much while interviewing people for my book.

Some of you may have read my short story Jumper in the Kindle and international paperback versions of SK's On Writing. Steve chose my story (written under the pseudonym Garrett Addams) as the winner of his On Writing contest. The prize was an audience with The King himself! (I told him I was a bigger fan than Annie Wilkes.)
Favourite King book? Hard to choose - there's so many! - but probably The Dead Zone.
It's great to be in such good company among so many fellow SK fans. Are we all looking forward to The Bazaar of Bad Dreams?
I hope you'll consider following me, and checking out my work.

Welcome Adam. Didn't see your story, but will check it out. Have to say I was never that big a fan of the dead zone... wanted to give it a listen as an audio book and then find out that it was one of the very few King works that isn't on audio. I know King likes it a lot, but what about it it makes it YOUR favorite?

Thanks, Nick. Why do I like The Dead Zone? Purely from a writer's perspective, I think, structurally, it's extremely focused, which makes King's writing even more intense. It's streamlined and lean with a satisfying ending. Some of his endings aren't this satisfying for me... As a sidenote, when I met SK, late '02, he was very angry with Dubya Bush for 'stealing' the Presidency. I commented that Bush reminded me of President Stillson. That earned me a high five.
But it's hard to pick to a 'favourite' SK book. The Dead Zone is one I particularly admire, and always tend to mention.
Anyway, thanks again for the welcome, Nick. And if you do happen to read my story Jumper, please let me know what you think. I was very young when I wrote it (20/21). The link to the book below is more reflective of the stuff I write now. And of course, Mr. King remains my biggest influence.

I'll look for it. I just recently got the 10th anniversary edition and don't see it in there. Anyway, your novel Gator Bate looks pretty good. I'll add it to the pile.

Thanks, Nick. I don't think the story was reprinted in any of the later paperback editions, just the first international print. I was pleasantly surprised to see it included in the Kindle version of On Writing.

You could give 11.22.63 a go. Bit of a twist to a world famous event. If you enjoyed Shawshank Redemption the movie, you'll like the book too.
