My name is Brenda. I've been reading Stephen King off and on since I was about 15. I've yet to be a hardcore Stephen King reader but I've read quite a few. My favorite SK book is The Shining with IT a close second. I think The Stand is overrated but perhaps I need to re-read it. I read it almost 20 years ago and now that I'm older I may or may not feel differently. Then again, the majority of the SK books I've read I did so long ago. The most recent one I read was The Dead Zone and I listened to the audiobook version of IT--LOVED IT being read by Steven Weber. Hoping to start The Gunslinger Series later this year. So yeah, hi! :)

Welcome Brenda! While I almost always love King's stuff I often find I feel differently about it depending on when I read it. Some of his I've read 10 or 12 times and I always notice and or feel different things.
You should give The Stand another try. I'd also suggest the complete and uncut if you are willing to invest the time.

Welcome, Nicholas. W & G is one of the best... I think, though not every one agrees.

I liked the drawing of the three too. But W & G is relentless.

Personally, I'm glad I read in the order they were published, so think it would be better to read Wind last.

Hi Kandice,
I bought the audiobook version of it not too long ago. I'm pretty sure it's the complete and uncut version though I'll make sure before I start listening to it. I told myself I'll give it another try now that I'm an adult and have some life experience behind me. That may help. Thanks! :)

Hi Nicholas. Glad to see I'm not the only newbie here. :)

I'm Dave. I like NASCAR and Meerkats. I am on my second reading of the Dark Tower series, and so I searched for a discussion group on Goodreads and found this one. I'm the Founder and Headmaster of a private high school in CA. Somehow I finally got sucked into King's books about 8 years ago. I knew him by the movies, but I had no idea the writing was so much better. I'm a voracious nighttime reader, so King was the perfect addition to my library.

Welcome Dave! What part of CA? I live in San Diego.

I have been transferring my entire written book journal onto Goodreads and came across this group.I have been reading King for about 30 years which has given me lots of time to read all his stuff! While I impatiently await new books I have started a reread journey and am currently on Danse Macabre.I had the great pleasure of attending the Revival signing here in Maine and even more recently the Finders Keepers signing in Bridgton.Top ten best days ever! I look forward to connecting with other fans and will try ti keep up but am in a few other King groups too......so much to do,so little time.

Hi Stacy. How do you like Danse Macabre? I've never read it.

Welcome Stacy. I'm currently working on the Stephen King Challenge myself. Welcome to the group!

Welcome."
Thank you :) I like your Nintendo controller phone.

Hello. My name is Melvin Rivers. I have been a Stephen King fan for many years. He's the reason I began writing in the first place.

1) The Stand
2) The Dark Tower series
3) The Dark Half
4) Needful Things
5) In the Eyes of the Dragon
I mean I could list books all day, but I think this makes a pretty good starter list.

Welcome! Sounds like you really love the bricks! Me too. :D

Thanks, Kandice! Yes, I do enjoy the long ones, but some of the short ones have been fun as well. I'm glad to be in the group. Thanks!

Different Seasons is my first and favorite King.

I'm Angelo and I've been a Stephen King fan for, oooh, I'd say about a hundred years now.
(Yeah, I look younger in my photo. Good genes, I guess.)
The Stand, The Shining and Misery are probably my favourite SK novels, and the ones I've read over and over again.
Nice to meet you all, and I look forward to having some fun Stephen King conversations!
:-)

My favourite King books are 'The Stand', 'It', 'The Dark Half', 'Hearts In Atlantis', 'From A Buick 8' and 'Lisey's Story' (not necessarily in that order). I'd include 'The Talisman' but that kind of sits in a different category due to being co-written by Peter Straub.
My favourite King short story is 'The Mist' (possibly because it was the first one I read, all those years ago).
I've read everything Mr. King has published and am eagerly awaiting his next book so I can 'light out for the territories' once again.
