Annerlee | 24 comments Hi there

I'm Annerlee (obviously)and I've just joined the group.

I love Stephen King's books in general. I recently read Duma Key, which I thought was creepy but not too scary... until I was on my own one night shift checking deserted corridors with creaky doors and the wind howling outside(!ugh*!*) - I live in the Shetland Islands (Scotland)and the sea is never far away. (GET A GRIP!!!) It's amazing how SK's books get under your skin.

The Dark Tower Series is my favourite series of all time! I've read it three times and am always so down when it finishes. Feel soo sad that no-one understands. Maybe I'll find my Ka-tet here?!?

Welcome! Duma Key is one of my very faves. Some of the phrases King created in that book haunt my everyday.

Scotland sounds lovely, by the way, despite creaky doors and howling wind.

Patti Ford | 1 comments Hi All, I am so happy to find fellow Stephen King readers! My name is Patti and I am living in Tulsa. I love all his books. When my Mom was alive we would take turns buying the latest and then sharing it. My only change now a days is that I would rather buy them on my Kindle instead. Takes less space :-)

Cory Abernathy (coryabernathy) | 1 comments Hi, My name is Cory Abernathy. I'm a huge Stephen King fan. I grew up reading most of his work; probably much sooner than my parents would have liked too. The Stand, The Talisman, and the entire Dark Tower series are some of my favorites. However, I really don't think I appreciated King as much as I should have until I read his books that didn't really fit into the classic horror genre though they did have some supernatural elements. Books like Duma Key and 11/22/63 were incredible and had incredibly complex characters. I also loved The Eyes of the Dragon. King is such a complete writer. I've tried, unsuccessfully, to emulate his writing. I just published my first novel, 'Ogden' and then I think back on his work and realize that I have a long way to go but thinking you will ever be as good as King is a fool's errand. I try to keep that in mind with my work. I look forward to discussing his work with all of you.

Since I finished the book IT I have been hooked and recently listened to needful things on audio book and have to say it is my second favourite of his, I thought it was amazing. Very much looking forward to his short story collection as that was the second horror book I read and he has inspired me to finally write my first novel Undead at Sundown that I published on kindle just over a week ago. Good to meet you all :)

Needful things felt like King's nod to us fans for following his books for so long. There were so, so many references to his other novels and shorts.

Welcome!

R.J. McCabe (rjmccabe) | 2 comments Thanks and ps I meant to say Night shift was the second horror book I read lol, I have yet to read Finders Keepers or Doctor Sleep, but i'll get there. I would love to be able to emulate his work , however i think as you start to write you kind of find your own style by accident almost. :)

Yes, I have driven by the house on West Broadway on more than one occasion. For awhile, my dad worked at WZON, a radio station that Mr. King owned, and he would receive Christmas cards from the Kings. They usually had a dark comic aspect to them as one might expect.

Cheryl (shaysmiles) Hi there, My name is Cheryl but my friends call me Shay. I have been a Stephen King fan since I was 13. My family would go on major road trips so that is where I got my love of reading. My first book was Eyes of the Dragon. My favorite so far is IT.

message 1378: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Law | 8 comments Hi my names Kaylee and I'm quite new to all this group discussion thing so bear with me and sorry if I write on the wrong thing! My favourite SK book so far is The Long Walk, I think, or maybe Desperation, or Running Man... It's hard to choose isn't it! Slowly working my way through the books I've maybe only read 20 King/Bachman books so far, I'm currently about 3/4 of the way through The Regulators!
So Hello everyone!!

message 1379: by Stace (new)

Stace Allen (bravobooknerd) Hi All! SK is probably one of my all time favorite writers. My favorite is The Dark Tower Series. If I didn't have so many other books on my list, I would probably read it all over again. 11/22/63 is my most recent read of his and I fell in love all over again.

I haven't read IT yet. Trying to build up the courage. :)

Hey Kaylee, great bunch of books for starters. The long walk is one of my favorites. Take a look at IT and see what you think... one of the very best.

message 1382: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Law | 8 comments I have read IT a few years ago, but it's one of the only books I've read AFTER seeing the movie, which I watched when I was a teenager, so I'm not sure if that tainted my view slightly so I didn't find it that scary.... Please don't all grab your pitchforks...

Movies can really mess up your perspective on a book... even the best of them don't measure up... well, okay, maybe The Shawshank Redemption.

message 1385: by Kenneth (new)

Kenneth McKinley | 277 comments I agree, Nick. As good of a movie as Misery was, it screwed up my perspective for when I read the book. I ran right out after seeing the movie and got the book which i then didn't like. It wasn't until years later that I gave it another shot and ended up loving it. I needed that time of separation from it to be able to appreciate it.

Welcome Namorrah - I'm doing the same thing (reading in publication order, more or less).

Hey... we've got the same avatar, too :)

Yup, when I started I had already read a few of them. My next King book is The Stand.

Namorrah wrote: "I'm still on Carrie. New to Goodreads, so I'm trying to get used to the whole thing!"

I started with Carrie as well - I was really impressed by it.

message 1394: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments I love epistolary fiction and King does it very well, especially taking into consideration how young he was when he wrote it!

message 1395: by Nick (new)

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments First of all I had to look up "epistolary" even though I've read many epistles and (unfortunately) written a few as well. Anyway, it is a great form, and Carrie is fine book that I've always under-appreciated. It deserves another read on my part. Have to say though, while I admire the idea, I can't bring myself to read the complete works of S. King in order.

message 1396: by Nick (new)

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments Namorrah wrote: "I'm looking forward to reading them all. :)"

Great... should provide lots of insights. I know that I regretted read some of them out of order.

message 1397: by Nick (new)

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments The ones that really bothered me were the castle rock series, Cujo, The Dead Zone, and Needful Things, just because I thought they implied more than was really there. Of course there are all the connections to the Dark Tower too... not just the series but all the connecting books, The Stand, etc. IT and 11/22/63 are slightly connected. King does link a lot of his books, no question about it... and seeing those connections are some of the great joys of reading his work.

message 1398: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments Because I’ve read them all as they were published (with the exception of the middle DT books) I’ve gotten all of his little “in jokes” and references to his own worlds. I am also a notorious re-reader, to the point that I have read some of his 10 or 12 times. Of course those are read out of order and that brings its own insights, so I don’t think you are missing much either way. :)

message 1399: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi, I'm relatively new to Goodreads as well as Stephen King's novels. Last month I read my first book of his which was "Carrie" and really enjoyed it. I just picked up "Joyland" and am excited to read it. I've recently got into horror books and I feel Stephen King falls under that category, so I plan on reading tons of his books! I am also interested in YA fiction books, basically the "hyped books", so I am looking for anyone interested in discussing any kind of books with!! Feel free to message me
