Introduce Yourself- part 2

On Writing is actually lessons on how to write novels, buried inside a very detailed and very funny biography. It also includes quite a commentary by King on many of his novels. Listening to King read it is like having a personal conversation with the guy. It's so damn intimate.

Hi, Daphne, nice to meet you here! Do you read your books in Dutch or in English? I read them in English because to me, in translation the stories seem a little artificial, especially when the translators throw in some dialect.

I am new to the group and just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Nikki and I read my first King book when I was 12 years old. Pet Sematary was the book that started my King/Horror Obsession and it is still going strong 24 years later. I grew up in Louisiana and my dad is a Southern Baptist Preacher. I have often asked my mom, the preachers wife, what she was thinking letting a 12 year old check out a book like that and we laugh because she had no clue what King's writing was all about, and she still doesn't! My mom, gotta lover her!
Of all his books I have read, Pet Sematary will always be my #1 favorite!

Great story, Nikki. Did you read Revival?

I did read Revival as soon as it was released! I was excited to see where King was going to go with the topic of religion and Jacobs. I loved the book and think he did a great job. I do feel the ending was lacking just a bit, but other than that I will read it again. My dad didn't like it too much, but Im a PK. Its in my blood to break the rules and rebel as much as I can lol!!

Good for you! Sorry your dad didn't like it... though it's not surprising.

Welcome!

Off to a great start. Read the Dead Zone before you read Cujo. Two of the few early books that have some dependancies.

Hello John, and welcome to the group, from one newbie to another!

I have a bunch more of his books, new and old here to read that are in my stacks. I have so many books and want to read them all at once :-/
It's nice to meet everyone. :-)

Doctor Sleep is relatively new and don't expect an actual sequel. It's good, but it just happens to feature Dan Torrence as the main character.

Thanks for the heads up Kandice :-). As long as it's good and has Danny that's all that matters.

I read Salems Lot I guess a month or two ago. I'm reading The Shining right now. That's funny.
I remember Salem's Lot the movie freaked me a little when I was younger. I want to get the movie but it's not in blu ray yet. I might just get it anyway :-)

Thank you Erin. Sorry if I missed anyone. Using tiny phone and I need some big reading glasses for it!!

SK is one of the few authors whose books I don't always read before I see the film adaptation; I've seen It, the Shining, Cujo, the Green Mile, Misery, both the original and remake of Carrie, and Pet Sematary (after reading the book). And Shawshank, omg. I also love the Rose Red tv miniseries.
In the meantime, I've become a full-on Joe Hill addict. I'm 2/6 of the way through his Locke & Key books, and I loved Horns and NOS4A2. Still need to read Heart-Shaped Box.

I'm a Joe Hill fan myself. Don't leave out 20th Century Ghosts. Short stories. I liked them all.

Thank you Erin. Sorry if I missed anyone. Using tiny phone and I need some big reading glasses for it!!"
You're welcome!
Welcome Ashley, I have read Heart-Shaped Box and it's pretty good.

Thanks Erin! I'm hoping to get to it in October.

Melisssa, mixed reviews on Dr. Sleep. Personally I liked it a lot, maybe just because I wanted to see what happened to Danny, and from my POV at least, I wasn't disappointed. There's also a terrific little girl character. I can say more, but I don't want to complicate it for you.

I liked it... read it twice. Desperation is at the bottom of my list... relentlessly horrible. But with so many others enjoying it, it's on me reread least... maybe next.

Glad you're here Michael.

No, I loved it.

Hello Ashley, welcome! It's definitely not a surprise that you've become a King fan with such influences in your life, although most certainly not a bad a thing, as I'm sure you'll find out even more when you get through your list of books. I've got to say that I loved the Rose Red mini series, I just wish they'd show it again. And as for the Joe Hill books, I've heard so much good stuff, I feel I must try them. Sadly, my local library doesn't carry them, so I'll have to order them, I was thinking I'd start with Horns?

Hi Yoite, just found your comments on Under the Dome, glad you like it. It's one of my favorites.

Hello Yoite, welcome!
I started to read Under The Dome a few months ago, but I somehow read a spoiler (unintentionally) on Twitter, and now I'm not sure if I should continue reading. I sort of know the ending but I feel like I'm missing out on all of those pages of King genius. Is it good enough to carry on?
Edit: realised I should post this under the UTD discussion, sorry everyone.

Absolutely read it. The greatness is in the details. The ending is one of King's best (I think). But it doesn't take anything away from the subplots that he weaves into the book as it goes along.

Welcome Kelsey - I read and listen to King a lot, have both read and listened to Under the Dome and 11/22/63. They were great. I thought The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon was one of the very best King audiobooks, especially if you like baseball. Joyland, Duma Key and IT were great too. Kings reading of On Writing was maybe the best of them all. For quick trips try Stationary Bike or Quitters Inc.
