message 2: by Helen (new)

Helen Currently I'm reading Lord of Chaos, WOT, and Christmas Mystery. Thought I'd do another chapter a day read after enjoying Lonesome October.

Taking a break from new stuff to re-read a few old Mercedes Lackey favorites :)

message 4: by Christine (new)

Christine | 637 comments Finished up The Age of Miracles (which I enjoyed...a quick read) and have now started on The Tomorrow Log. Not Liaden universe, but close

I'm reading an advance copy of Fortress Frontier, the sequel to Control Point by Myke Cole, which I've nominated here a few times already. The sequel's just as good as the first one so far.

I'm reading The Path of Daggers (WOT). I'm interspersing the WOT books with the Vlad Taltos series, with Athyra up next.

Jenny (jennyc89) | 127 comments I'm reading The Quantum Thief and I'm listening to From Dead to Worse on audio.

message 10: by Chris (new)

Chris Breedlove) (chrisstevenson) | 3 comments I'm reading Triptych by Karin Slaughter, a true crime novel.

message 12: by Laura (new)

Laura I'm just about to finish The Neon Court which I'm really enjoying (I loved A Madness of Angels, but thought the Midnight Mayor wasn't quite as good. This one seems back on track to me, and I don't have the 4th yet). And getting ready to start Necroscope. My husband's been telling me to read this one for ages and I'm just now getting around to it.

message 13: by Jon (last edited Dec 04, 2012 08:58AM) (new)

Jon (jonmoss) I continue to read the never ending story, er, I mean the Wheel of Time series, starting the 9th book today, Winter's Heart. I shouldn't joke though because a month from Saturday, the story will end, and I will have to find another series to gripe about. :)

I can't renew The Blinding Knife again, so I have to read it before the end of the world or the Winter Solstice (take your pick depending on your perception).

I'm also listening to The Iliad and Agincourt while walking the dog.

I hope to finish a non-fiction work I've had backburnered for several weeks - Age of Enlightenment.

I've almost come to a screeching halt in my Honorverse reading, only picking it up sporadically and randomly. I find myself skipping and skimming through The Shadow of Saganami only when I don't have a more interesting book handy. It does make a great sleep aid most nights.

Not sure if I'll be able to squeeze in anything else this month. I'm disappointed in myself this year as I don't believe I'm going to reach my reading goal of 80 books.

Well, my goal was 52 books (average of 1/week) and I'm not going to make that, but I'm reading Athyra right now (I really zip through the Vlad Taltos books, and love them!), then I need to read Torch of Freedom for our Honorverse series read, and THEN I'll start on Winter's Heart. After all, I don't think I've been "on time" with any of the WOT books in the fantasy series group, so why worry about it this month? Although I expect both Athyra and Torch to go quickly.

message 15: by Ken (new)

Ken (ogi8745) | 1430 comments Finished up another Rebus book, Dead Souls. Very good. A darker turn for the Inspector.

Started Vortex

message 16: by Helen (new)

Helen Kathy, I'm on Lord of Chaos, way behind. They seem to take me much longer to read. Also want to read Brent Weeks, Curse of Challion and another Wheel of Time.

Kathi | 4330 comments Mod
Well, I changed my mind and decided to go for Winter's Heart before Torch of Freedom... it seems to be a shorter WoT book. So far, though, it's pretty slow.

message 19: by Laura (new)

Laura That book sounds kind of interesting Stuart, but I can't quite decide who would be the target audience... if you know what I mean.

message 20: by Pickle (new)

Pickle | 203 comments Currently reading The Day of the Triffids but im unsure what to read next.

message 21: by Ken (new)

Ken (ogi8745) | 1430 comments Finished up Vortex. Book was well written but it had its problems.
Started on The Children of the Sky

The Red Knight by Miles Cameron. It's excellent - haven't been completely sucked into a novel like this in a long time.

message 23: by Paul (new)

Paul I'm also reading Vortex now, just finished Walking on Glass.

I've just finished the third of five stories in Wool Omnibus on my kindle. I am absolutely blown away by how good these are. One of the most intriguing, well-written post-apocalyptic dystopias I've ever read.

Bookbrow | 93 comments Pickle wrote: "Currently reading The Day of the Triffids but im unsure what to read next."

Any of John Christopher's The death of Grass, or Wrinkle in time, would be excellent following books as they have that cosy English charm about them.

Shel, that's good to hear. I have it on my TBR and your rec makes me want to move it up closer to the top.

I finished the omnibus today, and it finished just as strong. 5-stars!

message 28: by Random (new)

Random (rand0m1s) | 1247 comments I started Glasshouse yesterday on my way in to work because I needed a new audio book.

I listened to some more during lunch. And more on the drive home. And once I got home. At 3am this morning my husband finally made me turn off my player and get some sleep before the alarm went off. I suspect I'll have it finished by the time I get home tonight.

Quite a fascinating book.

message 29: by Ken (new)

Ken (ogi8745) | 1430 comments Well I lost my book last night. It had 3 tickets to the Hobbit for Boxing Day (My kids and I always go to a movie on Boxing day), it also had a frequent buyers card worth 35 bucks at my fav bookstore. Arrg
Guess the only bright light is I didn't loose a 100 dollar ereader and i should be able to find a replacment.

So I haven't been able to locate a replacement for it so I started the first Jack Reacher book
Killing Floor

Just read that and have to agree on both points.

Two books in the Warhammer 40000 setting I read recently and enjoyed are Pariah by Dan Abnett and Priests of Mars by Graham Mcneill

Reading Hounded at the moment.

Usually I am pretty good with books. I remember reading it on the bus. Next thing I am getting ready for bed and realised the book was gone. Looked over the whole apartment, went to a local drug store three times hoping it would show up. Even went to the Transit lost and found and no joy.
I could deal with the book, and the credit. It was the movie tickets that annoyed me.
I kept them in the book cause I knew I wouldnt lose that.....ha

message 34: by Richelle (new)

Richelle (richellet) | 9 comments Just finished An Autumn War and just started In the Garden of Iden. Only other book I read this month was The Improbable Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. I guess I've been busy...

message 35: by Helen (new)

Helen Ken, I know how you feel. We were on our way to the Hobbit when lost pure was realised. Lots of rewalking our route did nothing.
