April | 970 comments Welcome to YLTO, Pauline! I love to see new members who jump right in and get involved.

I adore Margaret Atwood! Although I haven't yet read Oryx and Crake, I do have it sitting on shelf. I have heard such good things about that book and I'm glad to read that you are enjoying it so much!

Have you read anything else by Atwood? I have read The Handmaid's Tale, Cat's Eye, and The Penelopiad. I loved them all. I think Margaret Atwood could write about anything and I would love it. She just has a special way of speaking to the reader.

OH... and don't forget to sign up for a team for the upcoming Toppler! I know both teams would love to have you! Topplers are a great way to get to know everyone as there is always a ton of posting going on. It's a great time!

Josée Leon (join_bookland) Hi everyone,
I'm Josée from Brampton, Ontario, Canada. I joined the club earlier this month and signed up for the Low-Octane Alphabet challenge. This is the first book club I've ever joined (have signed up on a few others since) and am very much enjoying being part of it!

Janice (jamasc) | 59983 comments Hi Josee! Here's an official welcome, although I have visited your Alphabet thread and cheered you on there. I'm glad you've joined us for some reading madness.

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Another official welcome Josee. I've also been snooping theough your Alphabet choices.

Are you thinking of joining a team for the Toppler? It's a fun way to get to know the group, and the only requirement is to read at least one book.

Michelle Burton (goneabroad71) | 53 comments Hi! I'm Michelle. I'm American, originally from North Dakota, but am currently living in Manila, Philippines. I'm moving to Washington, DC this summer after twelve years of floating around in various parts of Asia, and can't wait to reconnecting with America! I love the eclectic nature of this group and am looking forward to expanding my reading horizons!

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Welcome Michelle! Glad to see you've already jumped into a challenge. Isn't Madame Tuitti Fruitti amazing at picking our books?!

I see the Toppler teams are already trying to recruit you :) Hold out and see who makes the best offer!

Michelle Burton (goneabroad71) | 53 comments Thanks! I'm sure this is in the rules somewhere, and I just haven't found it yet...but what are all these "badges" and stuff? Are they displayed virtually somewhere? And when we finish a challenge read (like the fruitcake one), how do we report that we're done? This is my first time to explore the world of on-line book groups!

message 163: by Lynn (new)

Lynn | 2974 comments Yes they are displayed virtually. If you scroll down all the topics you'll come to one called Wall of Fame. In there each member has a thread, where the badges are posted (I don't have one yet as I'm fairly new too).

Each challenge has a reporting thread (which is created by the wonderful mods) once the challenge starts, which you can report your findings / reviews etc.

Lynn | 2974 comments A great way to get involved and get to know the people around here a bit more is to join in with the Toppler that's coming up.

message 172: by April (new)

April | 970 comments Hi, Ann! I'm glad you found us! Yes, we have a Toppler coming up and it is a great time. Check. the discussion discussion section under the subtitile "Topplers" and then the February 2013 Toppler. I will be send ing out a newsletter soon with direct links to this info.

message 173: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Welcome to the group Ann! A Toppler is basically a read-a-thon, but with special tasks, badges, and lots of chatting about snacks, drinks, staying awake, life in general, and even books. For the one coming up we're having two teams competing against each other. The good thing is, you don't have to be a reading machine to participate and have lots of fun. Just one book meeting one of the tasks will earn points for the team. You'll be offered virtual bribes, so hold out for the most appealing deal :)
