Really exciting news, though, Hugh. It's not every day an author can say that someone is interested in putting their books up on the big screen :)

Amanda | 1 comments Hugh,

Who is Elise Queen of the wastelands? Is this a future outside character!? Or are you referring to the character in Fallout 3? Thanks and much love! your books are amazing :)

Elise is a character from the first 5 Wool novels. I'm really projecting ahead by mentioning her future.

Me too! Thanks for telling me about your Bella Luna.

Opps, sorry, Lori. I won't mention it again.

THE PLAGIARIST is one of my favorites! I also enjoyed THE WALK UP NAMELESS RIDGE and am dying to know more about the woman climber and her climbing companion. Please tell me there is going to be a story about her.

Susan (susanjagannath) | 1 comments I see that Third Shift has just been published. I used the 3 days of the Brisbane Bigwet to read Hurricane, and Second Shift. Are you sure you don't have mindreading apparatus self installing when we plunge into Wool! ;)
In fact, I felt a bit guilty after reading Hurricane, almost as if ex-cyclone Oswald had arrived in time to make it real for me.
Hurricane is totally out of my demographic, I only read it because of Wool, but it shows that Hugh Howeys writing has a universal appeal. I'm only annoyed that I can't share my Kindle edition with my teenagers, who are exactly the same stage as Daniel.
I love that you gave the name Anna to the girl and to the Hurricane..deliberate? A bit of Mystery Play here?
heyyy- there is no Kindle edition as yet of Third Shift!!!

My fault too, sorry.

Until this thread I had no idea hugh was so prolific, I need to read more. Fingers crossed for the film.

I'm dying to write a novel about her and her android friend!

Very well. You may write said novel. Let me know when it's done.

;)

Mark | 3 comments I love they way you describe things so beautifully, in particular the imagery and analogies you use. It is like sci-fi poetry which appeals to two of my favorite genres.

If you are still answering questions here, I had a couple. Is there a particular method you use to come up with the imagery and analogies in your books? Have you written any poetry or taken poetry classes?

By the way, I just purchased Third Shift today and can’t wait to dive into it.

I bought it yesterday, and, sadly, I'm halfway through it already - I wish I could make it last longer!

I guess that was one advantage of discovering WOOL via the omnibus - I had lots and lots of pages to feast upon.

Morgan,

I also discovered WOOL in Omnibus form, but I chewed through that like nobody's business. It was too good to slow down for...

Me too...that's why I waited for all 3 Shift books to come out before reading them...I knew I wouldn't want to stop after the first and have to wait for more :)

I wrote a LOT of poetry growing up. I read a lot of it as well. I think it's wonderful practice for writing prose and novels.

My secret, I think, is to really "hear" the words rather than read them. Even if a sentence is grammatically incorrect, I phrase it so that it sounds pleasing to the ear. I love when sentences are sing-song and slightly nonsensical. I'm glad there are people who enjoy reading that style!

Well guys, we've hit the end of the month! And that means that - whether we want to or not - we need to say goodbye to Hugh....

I don't know about you, but I had a blast hanging out this month! Thanks to Hugh, all the giveaway winners, new members and participants for making this discussion so great.

Hugh,

Thank you so much for your time and attention these past two weeks. It was so wonderful to be able to ask questions and watch the group interact with you.

I hope you enjoyed yourself as much as I enjoyed hosting you.

Thanks Hugh,

Perhaps you should consider publishing some of your poetry. I know I would read it.

Wish you all the best in the years to come.

I discovered Wool Omnibus first as well. You have much more control and patience than I do, though. :)

Joyce | 27 comments Hugh, thank you so much for Wool, I just love the whole world of it! I am in the middle of Third Shift and will be sorry to get to the end. Thanks also for your participation here, it has been fun to read!

I for one am really grateful for the chance to pick your brains, and I was glad to have my questions answered. Good luck with your future projects (need I mention the film?!) - and I'll be eagerly awaiting the DUST series...
:0)

Jill Thank you to Lori for organizing this and thank you Hugh for your generous spirit in answering everyone's questions and for the book giveaway. I learned a lot about the process of writing from reading your posts and from the questions. Thanks again. Jill

Joyce | 27 comments Just finished a hilarious fan-fic authorized by Hugh himself called "NaNoWri War Z--Hugh Howey must die!" by Michael Bunker. Great read, I highly recommend it. Zombies were never this much fun!
