Andrea (andrealsimmons) | 21 comments Hello I work for Marvin Kaye. He has two book titles one called Grand Ole Opry Murders and one called The Country Music Murders. They are the same book. Unfortunately the Grand Ole Opry gave only informal permission to use their name for his book title and as such he willing changed it to Country Music Murders. My question to Goodreads is is how can I fix this without just removing which I understand is a BIG no-no.

If there is a legal aspect to wanting to remove a title or cover etc then you can send the info to customer support.

I'm sure she did, that is why said 'another book'. But if the author is changing the title of his book for legal reasons he might as well pick a title that isn't already in use.

Andrea (andrealsimmons) | 21 comments Marvin Kaye already has a book title the Country Music Murders. It was originally titled the Grand Ole Opry Murders. He was asked to change it. I believe I did see one other book by another author that was titled the Country Music Murders.

How long did the Grand Ole Opry take before they wanted the title changing?

Book titles get re-used all the time, though. Besides, it looks like the title change is long since done, if the publication date on that edition is correct, and it's just a legal question about listing the older editions....

Quite. But if the title change took place in 2000, as is suggested by that edition:

then there cannot really be any urgency about changes on GR.

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments Eh, I wouldn't think so, but I'm not the lawyer in my family. :)

Andrea (andrealsimmons) | 21 comments Yes the title change has long since been done. It's just that he is not supposed to use the title and technically it is on his profile. It all came up when I was trying to get the series formetted correctly on GR and I discovered two of the books had the same description but differenct titles. Hr Kaye didn't even know that the orginal title was listed in places.

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 6325 comments I don't see any problem combining if the same book; title change of course needs staff involvement.

If ever published with Grand Ol' Opry in title, some members will have that titled shelved so not sure if staff will change.

Author can set primary edition to desired title/bookcover edition so at least the Grand one doesn't show on author page, simple search, etc.
