Been ages since I read it, but I loved it so can't wait to see the opinions of fresh readers :) The thing I loved the most though is how Meyer could write something that's so different than Twilight, although I like that series too. She shows her versatility! Enjoy!!

I want to , I loved the book & s. ronin rocked it in Atonement , the lovely bones, book adaptations are scary though, fingers crossed this will be good.

Oh yeah, did anyone else read the back of the book & feel the need to throw it? It was so much better than it sounded. Thank gods I had a long wait in a doctors office & only Walgreens to choose from or it never would have graced my library :) & I really liked it, go figure

Best Stephanie Meyer book!
Since everybody is obviously loving this book, I need to express my opinion that is a bit different. I read The Host almost a year ago and I liked it a lot.Anyway, there are two things that I didn't like:
1. Wanda - throughout the book I got a feeling that she's a lot like Bella Swan..passive, quiet, submissive. I was wondering why she doesn't just TELL them that she means no harm? Why doesn't she fight for her life? It was completely logical that they were scared of her, and she didn't say anything, she would rather hide and almost got killed.
And similarities with Bella - I was ok with that, but then I read Bree Tanner and I found out Wanda = Bella = Bree. They're all too similar to each other and I'd like to see Stephanie Meyer write a book with main character who's not like them. I liked Melanie, who was tough and refused to fade away - she fought for herself.
2. I found the ending a bit too forced. (view spoiler)

And even with all the flaws I still liked the book a lot.
LOL Buzz Killington, never heard that before, hilarious! And you're not a buzzkill silly, you still liked the book and you're just expressing your opinion :) I wouldn't say the Host was perfect and although I've never really thought about it, I do see the similarities in the MCs. I did like the end though and I prefer happy over sad although sometimes sad is way more effective!

I was actually super excited about the actress! I thought she was kind or perfect. did you see Hanna or anything she was in? I think she's going to be a perfect Melanie.

I noticed this, too! I loved The Host, but yeah, I noticed it. And I've found that once you point it out, or shatter the glass, other people can't read without noticing it, too, haha
The person casted to play Wanda is fantastic ! She blew my mind in "Atonement " (if someone can drag my eyes away from James MacAvoy , they're stellar);) Then she completely wowed me in "lovely bones"...I'm feeling a very fan girlish blush & almost a giggle. I think Siorse Ronin (sp sorry) will be great, unfortunately because its going to be marketed to the "twilight" fan base they probably will cast accordingly, boo:( I'm either officially old or I always imagine the character 's as more adult) it always makes me laugh when I see the cast from books I loved. "Mortal Instruments" was a perfect example, I totally felt like a dirty old cougar when I saw the actor they cast as "Jace". My mind shouted ewww he's a child

Lol! I feel the same way. I see an actor and think, he's hot, then my 17-year-old is like, he's so hot...then I'm thinking maybe I should be watching movies with "older" actors. Though, she does think some of the older actors are hot too...Can we say Josh Duhamel (he's like 40ish).
I don't know any of these actors, but I'll definitely watch the movie!
Omg yeah believe me I still find jack Nicholson to be sexy, Ryan Goseling (so) dreamy;) Clint Eastwood , Paul Bettany (sp) Christian bale, Sean bean! I could go on & on , give me a Scottish brogue or an Irish lilt I melt. It just seems that all the character 's being cast for pnr adaptations are geared towards the ya age bracket which totally makes sense I'm not going to spend $ on poster's, magazines , etc. I think the casting for the Sookie books & "a song of ice & fire" have eye candy for all types. After seeing the graphic novel for Karen Marie Moning's "fever series" I doubt the character's will match what I envisioned. For any crazies like me the "B" belt buckle on the monstrosity drawn as "Barron's" was laughable to me. The author dug it so what can I do?

I'm going to see it, I enjoyed the book n I really like the actress they cast to play Wanda /Mel , (lil s.ronin) totally rad in atonement , lovely bones, Hanna etc. I have a good feeling:)
I loved the book and it was different compared to Twilight compared to setting and that it wasn't a just a teenage romance like Twilight was, which was nice. I do agree that Wanda, Bree, and Bella were all similar. There are no strong, lead female characters with Meyer. She always portrays them as innocent, quiet, and more submissive. Next book I hope she gives us a stronger character to latch on to.
Hold on -- what about Melanie? I actually liked this book. Though it was a little slow in the beginning and it was more about characterization than story line. I'm not much of a Stephanie Meyer fan. I agree with Kyla her characters always seem to need someone to depend on instead of doing it themselves. But I have to say this one was her best work so far not that that's saying much.
I enjoyed The Host and the Twilight series. I think this book shows off Meyer's diverseness as a writer. The strength of her lead female in The Host is what sets her apart from Bella. I don't think she's wearing out the same character in a different book.
I am going to sound like I am contradicting myself here but I had to share. I absolutely love this book. There are just certain things I wished were changed. But my one major problem with the book was that I felt everything was elementary. The way she described the other planets and things made me feel like I was my 2 year old nephews imagination, and that is not a good thing. Other then that I loved the book.
finally read this and it was okay. the entire middle of the book was unnecessary but the ending was kinda bad ass lol
I totally agree with Sophie! It felt like I was in the imagination of a child when reading about the other planets. And while I think the story was good overall, it felt too long and I found myself skimming to get to the end. That being said, I'm looking forward to the movie coming out in March!!!
I enjoyed Twilight novel... until they have decided to cast Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart as Edward and Bella... Now.. I'm reluctant to even care to read The Host... can anyone tell me few good reasons to read it anyway... Maybe I will give it a shot...
By the way... this The Host adaptation has released their own version of Valentine's Day Cards... quite cheesy!

The Host was not like Twilight. It was more for an adult audience. The female lead was strong and independent. I really enjoyed it.
