For me on songs I was potentially thinking of if I got to suggest I was thinking of songs that did necessarily corispond to my list but that I think would be easy to find books for. I was thinking of songs that kind of tell a story themselves so that people could find stories to match. Setting is easy in those cases and wouldn't necessarily have to match the year.
I'm loving the suggestions being posted. Especially two song from different decades submitted at sign-in.CaroB, if you do this (and I learned it the hard way), stipulate that the person will NOT be considered "officially" signed in unless they submit their two songs. Otherwise, you'll spend way too much time tracking someone down. Instead, they will be placed on a "Need Two Songs List" or some such name.
I don't know that it would have to be mandatory to suggest songs. Just the option if you want to you can if you don't want to you don't have to and one song or two if you want. I think there would be enough who want to. There were 35 people signed up this round. That would be 70 songs (if there were no duplicates). That would be a lot to choose from for only 8 songs to be called. For stratagy reasons I would want a smaller song pool.
I think 1 song per person is plenty and I don't care about the decades thing. Look at this round. We've had people choose songs from I think every time but the 80's, unless I'm forgetting one. So it's not like people are stuck in the 2000's. I'd rather have a smaller pool too. I'd also rather have nothing pre-90's. But only because I don't much from the 60's-80's in my TBR.
Mary, but setting isn't always about what year it was published. Keep in mind that a lot of songs from the 60's and 70's have a clear setting. IE David Bowies Space Oddity. Very clearly you have an outer space setting there. Which would include several recent books. A lot of folk songs from then also have clear settings.

It's good to get this discussion going, it'll be interesting how this game develops as each round continues.
Ok, I think there's about 16 hours until the next song is called.
I must not be the only one getting constant "over capacity" messages if no one is discussing the song here yet. I like this song but I don't know if I have anything that goes with it yet.
Grrr, it took me almost 20 minutes to post 2 posts to the team thread. I just gave up. We'll see how it works now ;)
Carrie wrote: "For the word stomp, can it be stomped or stomping? Or does it have to just be stomp?"Any of those would work. Is there some way I can find out if the word is in the book?
You can go to amazon and search the book, or if it's only out in ebook you can look it up at google books.

Amazon will let you search inside most books for a word. New books are not always available to search though.
Ok, to me the song lyrics really have nothing to do with the video. The song lyrics alone sound like it is about someone dying. Would that work as a plot point, or am I reading the song all wrong?
Susan (susayq) wrote: "OK, how do I search the book LOL"Pull up the book you want to search on amazon. I usually choose the paperback version. It won't let you if you pull up the kindle version. Under the picture of the cover on the left side of the screen will be a blue hyperlink that says search inside this book, or search inside another edition of this book. It will open a pop up window where you can enter your word.

Would this get points for having a dragon (aka a "magical creature") on the cover? There's a dragon flying in the background. And dragon-ish creatures in the video. Also hero on cover is partially shifted into dragon form-he has scales and ridges going down his back. There are magical flying creatures in the video and as main characters of the book. And for plot does having dragon shifters and probably other creatures in the book be a plot point match?
Another one:
do angel's and vampires qualify as "magical creatures" I think they do. So cover points for having an "angel" on the cover and plot points for having magical flying creatures as the main characters?
Gea no to the beach, but if it were a ship, yes.Mary yes to monsters on the cover and yes to monsters fighting humans as a plot point
How about a house on the cover to match the lyrics: don't like walking around this old and empty house? And vampires and shapeshifters as a plot point?
So they have to be fighting humans? They can't just be the main characters? Can they be fighting each other? Do angel's fighting vampires count?
Hi, everyone! I'm the newbie on Team Red. I asked this question on my team's thread but thought I would ask it here too....Does the shelf have to be the exactly "magical creatures" because the book I would like to read has "mythical creatures" and "magical beings" but I'm not finding exactly magical creatures?
Also would someone who is dying work for plot? "You're gone, gone, gone awayI watched you disappear"
Hey Jennifer we are on the same team. It has to be that exact shelf. http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...
You don't need to read a book from that shelf, if you pick one not on it, you just can't claim a point for it. It's only one point for shelf so it's no big deal.
I'm not sure about this since I haven't read the book but would this work for setting...in the video it is snowy and cold and this book is set in Maine (so it is most likely snowy and cold)?
<---doing the peepee dance over here. Still wondering about the plot and if Monster in the title would work even though that is the band name. Just want to start reading.

The mods didn't list that as a plot point. I'll let CaroB have final say.
Jennifer~Princess Penguin~ wrote: "I'm not sure about this since I haven't read the book but would this work for setting...in the video it is snowy and cold and this book is set in Maine (so it is most likely snowy and cold)?"I don't think so. Once again, I'll defer to CaroB :)
Sorry I disappeared in the middle of book picking time. I'm with my middle daughter on a college tour and registering her for school in the fall. I'll try to check in again in a bit and most definitely when I get back home.
Lauren wrote: "How about a house on the cover to match the lyrics: don't like walking around this old and empty house? And vampires and shapeshifters as a plot point?"
I think no to the house, but yes to vamps and shapeshifters as plot point since they're monsters. As long as they're fighting humans.

Susan (susayq) wrote: "Melissa wrote: "Would the word Monster in the title work for title points?"Yes"
But "Monster" is not in the title of the song but the name of the band. The song is called 'Little Talks' so I just assumed that only 'Little' or "Talks" worked for Title?
So no to dying but if the book is about a monster that comes to visit the kid whose mother is dying that is ok because of the monster correct?
Melissa wrote: "DG is just upset because she just finished reading the book I'm thinking of. hehehehehe (hugs)"TRUE! That's why I'm making sure you don't get more points for exceptions that are not in the rules. :)
