D.G. Mary - Check out the Billboard Music Charts
http://www.billboard.com/charts/hot-1...

That page has the current #1 song in like a million genres this week both in the US and International.

Or if you want to browse other years, scroll down to the bottom and you'll see 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 6062 comments that's a great link, DG. I am going to check it out :)

message 553: by D.G. (new)

D.G. You're welcome. I thought it could come in handy. :)

message 554: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 337 comments I have a list of song suggestions planned out if I ever get to suggest. I honestly am not picking any more recent songs because it seems like most of the people suggesting songs are picking current songs. I want to mix it up and have fun.

message 555: by D.G. (last edited Jan 16, 2013 08:03AM) (new)

D.G. I wouldn't say that 1993 is current, LOL!

I have a variety. I guess it all depend on my mood and what has been suggested if I get to make a choice.

I'm also making sure there's a video for all the songs. It makes it more interesting to look for clues.

message 556: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 752 comments I submitted a fairly recent, popular song as my second choice. A song I love.

I like all kinds of music. I have everything from old Blue Grass, Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash to Gnarls Barkly on my Ipod and all kinds in between.

The only thing I don't really listen to much is rap, post 60's country and thrash metal.

message 557: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 337 comments LOL no 1993 wasn't current. I'm saying though it looks like most people have been picking current :)

message 558: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 752 comments Yeah the video thing caught me on a couple of old songs that I love. All I found was home made You-tube ones. I know we had a possible last week with no video but I tried to find songs with videos that could be worked with.

message 559: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 337 comments LOL Mary why oh why did a mental image just pop in my head when you said "thrash metal"

D.G. Melissa wrote: "LOL no 1993 wasn't current. I'm saying though it looks like most people have been picking current :)"

Well, that makes it easy to pick the books. :)

I'd say though that there are songs that you think are recent and then you found out they are 10 years old, LOL!

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) | 506 comments Sign that you are way to into this challenge:

While cleaning out a dresser drawer found some books at the bottom I had forgot I had. Took one look at the titles and said hey that reminds me of a song. I sure did stop cleaning to go lookup the lyrics and video.

Oh I know what you mean! I feel so old sometimes cause I think about songs from when I was in high school only to realize just how long ago it was

message 567: by Susan (susayq ~), Moderator (new)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 6062 comments I don't think everyone has submitted a song to Nick yet.

message 568: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 752 comments The green team lost a player and had to call in a back up. I don't know if she's been asked to submit a book or not. But that could be the hold up.

LMBO!!! How do you think I came up with the initial idea for this!! LOL. I did a short stint as a wedding DJ about 6 years ago, and when you read as many romances as we do, the number of ballads and love songs that tie in is amazing.

message 573: by Phoenix (Online Elf), Moderator (new)

Phoenix (Online Elf) | 4358 comments Announcement

Some of you will be checking in today to see what the new song choices will be for this week, so we moderators wanted to take the time to let you know about a few changes that are taking effect this week.

1. Firstly, a change of players. We've had 5 of our 7 teams change players in the last week. Please welcome Tea, Manvir, Kate, Angela & Judy to the game and offer any help you can, especially during the first week. And au revoir to Cheryl, Susanne, Dani, Anna and CaroB. Hopefully we may see you all in future rounds when life settles down a bit.

2. Miss CaroB will still be helping us to manage the game, but in a smaller capacity than she has been. She has a new job which will be taking up a majority of her time for the next couple of months. Miss Gisela, Miss Susan, Miss Lisa Kay and myself will all still be here frequently to help you out, never fear! To help us out, however, we will be simplifying some things:

3. The Spreadsheet will now only be updated when the team captain requests a dancer to be groovified in the Hey Mr DJ thread. We've changed the spreadsheet so there's only one entry for the team Read, Rated, Reviewed column. This makes it easier to see what the team score should be.

4. You will still get the list of song choices ahead of time, so you can try to work out book links ahead of the song being called, if you like. This will be done on Thursdays. Due to the increased workload for the moderators, we wont be able to answer questions until the song is called on Friday. Don't worry, we're still here to help! But we can't guarantee that we'll have the time to get here to answer your questions before the song is called. Once the song is called, we will definitely be here to help. *TIP1: When you're looking for book links, look at the significant part of the video and lyrics! For example - Blinds or curtains, clouds and trees, buildings or cars etc, might not have anything to do with the song. If it's just in the background, it isn't significant. But a clothesline with laundry drying, in a video where housework is a significant part of the clip, would count as a link. Or a car that was on fire, or a crumbling building, might count as a link for a video clip that showed them in a significant manner. There's more scope in the lyrics, but what we're looking for is something that links to the general idea of the song. Hope that helps*

3. It's all about teamwork. Some people can't read very quickly. Others are limited to library books. Points are important, but it's not the only thing that makes this game fun. Help each other out, make allowances for Real Life and don't be afraid to think outside the box. Some of the best things about the last round were seeing all the different books people were reading and having new series/authors to add to our TBRs.

Have a ball, have a blast, have a boogey!

Ok, let's start the music...

message 574: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Thanks, Mr. Elf! The guidelines make sense. :)

We'll miss all the players that are leaving and welcome the new ones. :)

It's a good idea to start answering questions after the song is called. That way you don't have to spend your time answering questions for songs that won't be picked. :)

message 575: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 752 comments I don't think I'll even try finding anything for the 2 older ones.

I already have a book picked out for The A-Team because that's the song I originally submitted and then of course for Mercy. I think I will jsut see what I have for Poker Face and then hope one of the older ones doesn't get called.

message 576: by Elishia (new)

Elishia | 2620 comments I forgot about that lucky you, although I think they may be the easy books for me to find.

message 577: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I have one book in my TBR from 1970 and another one from 1972 but no 1971.

I also have a book from 1960 but it has 1000+ pgs so I won't be reading that one, LOL!

message 578: by Elishia (new)

Elishia | 2620 comments LOL I picked the 1971 and don't have anything form that year. I found a book from 1972 that would fit but it doesn't really help.

the same on mine for the 1971!

Carrie (icanhasbooks) Time to hunt in my tbr.

message 581: by Mary X (last edited Jan 17, 2013 08:45AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 752 comments I have a big goose egg in my TBR for 1960 and 1971.

Which is why I didn't pick any Patsy Clinie songs: non videos and didn't want to find books from the 60's. Oh well.

I can match the name James and probably come up with something for Hollywood.

message 582: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Yes, I checked Taylor already and found a few books with that name.

message 583: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) | 506 comments I have a few general game questions. I know you arn't answering questions until the song is announced, so no rush. (If I don't ask while I'm thinking I'll forget) But I am sure they will come up again in future weeks.

1. Are Anthologies ok to read? Would we get name points if only one of the short stories was by a name matching author, even if we read the whole book?

2. For artists with an odd stage name would thier real name work for name matching points or would it be on a song by song basis?

message 584: by Gisela, Moderator (new)

I'll have to get back to you on the Anthology question. For the Artist name it'll probably be decided on a song to song basis.

message 585: by Lina (new)

Lina | 5563 comments Gisela is right. With the names, we'll call it on a song by song basis, depending how link-rich it may already be.

Good question about the anthologies, Dawn. You're right, it would've come sooner or later. At this stage, I think not. Anthologies would offer you three or for different plots, names and settings to choose from, if you count the whole book. If you don't count the whole book, the miss have no way of monitoring the page count. Sorry :-(

message 586: by Lina (new)

Lina | 5563 comments Mods, not miss. Here autocorrect. The point is it would give you an advantage for multiple points that most other players wouldn't have.

message 587: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) | 506 comments That is what I thought about anthologies, I just didn't want to rule out a book if it would work.

message 589: by D.G. (new)

message 590: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) The waiting is killing me. I don't want to start anything new until the song is called...

message 594: by ShoSho , Moderator (new)

ShoSho (shoshost) | 12263 comments GR was over capacity, can you believe that?

"You " or "got" do they get title points?

message 598: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) On the other hand, maybe if Goodreads had been over capacity a little earlier, we would have gotten a different song - one not from before I was even born ;0)
