Read this paperback 10 years ago and can't remember author or title. Book is from a female author. Protagonist is exiled on a rural jungle planet by his uncle and gets work pulling a cargo sled for a local woman. Planet is inhabited by people adapted to the planet as well as large tree dwelling aliens maybe called scree? Sorry but that's all I have.

This sounds like it could be one of Sheri S. Tepper's books. I'll take a look at her works and see if I can find it.
Hmm. A quick search turned up the Twilight Reign series, which has a city named Scree
, and The Lost Treasure of Talus Scree, which has a country/society named Talus Scree.
Neither is by a female author, however.
If it's a book by Tepper, my first guesses would be either Grass, Six Moon Dance, The Family Tree or A Plague of Angels. Most of Tepper's books are told from a female POV, though -- but it sounds like the protagonist of Dubbs's book is male?
I think my husband read this. I remember the sled. I remember a mass-market paperback with a green cover. I just sent an email to him at work, but I don't know when he'll be able to check.

I remember one of the reviews on the book cover seemed to indicate the author was fairly new which doesn't seem to fit with Tepper. Thanks for the help, this has been bugging me for months. I've been doing random title searches at the library of congress for outlander/outworlder/offworlder. I think the title was something like that but I cant be sure.

The book had an environmental feel to it because the local inhabitants were very careful not to disturb the scree, if that's what they were called. I remember the exiled spacer had to take meds because his body didn't efficiently process local food and the locals had a green tint to them. They were also very dismissive of outsiders who apparently never lasted long (died). Thanks for your help.
