Michelle Mcroberts | 125 comments Michael Creighton's Sphere - I couldn't watch any more than the first 30 minutes of the movie it was so bad...and I'm not sure I made it that long...

Author whose future works you most look forward to reading?

message 452: by [deleted user] (new)

Hmmm . . . I'm tied between Marissa Meyer and Veronica Roth.

Book with a terrible beginning?

Michelle Mcroberts | 125 comments Mark wrote: "Ebooks have given rise to a proliferation of self-published novels (on Amazon, e.g.). Do you think this is a good or bad development? "

It can be both. Many who are aiming to self-publish only, don't tend to spend the time editing as carefully as someone who is working with an editor with the goal of heading to a publisher. The plots sometimes don't end up as well developed as they potentially could have been. I have read some self-published work that was "not half bad" that could have been "excellent" with one more revision or an editor's red pen.

Jay No

Have you read The Host?

message 455: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Mcroberts | 125 comments Yep - and I enjoyed it!

Have you read it? If so, what did you think of it?

message 456: by Karina (new)

Karina Yes, I have and I loved it! I think more people should give it a chance and not assume it is like Twilight.

Most disturbing book you've read?

message 457: by Brooke (new)

Brooke (brookeluvsbooks) I have heard that The Host can get very confusing so I haven't read it. Is it really good?

Karina Brooke wrote: "I have heard that The Host can get very confusing so I haven't read it. Is it really good?"

I didn't think it was confusing. I would recommend it. It's pretty unique too.

Michelle Mcroberts | 125 comments Most disturbing book you've read?"

The Storyteller by Antonia Michaelis By far... I think it is a law that all German fairytales reach a certain level on the disturbance scale. It was good - but very difficult to read in places.

Lucille (lucillep) | 3277 comments Yes, especially when I read stories by unpublished people. :)

Have you ever lost your will to read? I think the term is book funk?

message 468: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Mcroberts | 125 comments I have never completely lost the will to read, but I've gotten into a genre funk and had to switch genres or move to short stories or poetry in lieu of novels...

What are the one book and one series you would read again for the first time?

message 469: by Lucille (new)

Lucille (lucillep) | 3277 comments The Immortal Rules/Blood of Eden by Julie Kagawa.

Your least favorite genre?

message 470: by James (new)

James F. Evans (JamesFEvans) | 1 comments Erotica.

Who is your favorite author?

message 471: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Mcroberts | 125 comments I could no more choose a favorite author than I could a favorite appendage...and I don't think it would even be fair to list my top five. I might be able to do it in 10, though...

JRR Tolkien
GRR Martin
CS Lewis
Megan Whalen Turner
Jane Austin
Cornelia Funke
Sylvia Plath
Veronica Roth
Sarah Maas
Rae Carson

OK...nope I can't get them all in...but if I had to pick ONE only under duress and/or pain of death, it would probably be CS Lewis.

Anyone else want to try? Favorite author
