Cecilia Carreon I disliked every single thing about this character.

First I believe him to be a edward knockoff. (not because im obsessed with edward or anything of that sort) But, really they had so many similarities it was awful to read.

I absolutely hated his possessive trait you want to call a relationship abusive, read about Deborahs version of a vampire.

His so called "secrets" he was so secretive, uhmm no you could predict what kind of vampire he was. except for all his positions i lost count of what all he is. -_-

His "love" for diana it was so, so predictable and shallow and all of a sudden.

He wasn't attractive in my opinion at all i did not liked who he was or how he thought.

His overall intellect i found to be mediocre.

He had no depth.

Just awful. the control subject is what tipped the scale for me. Why would you make your main characters so heavy on the other. Diana didnt even like it. His own mother was afraid of him.

I wonder if others thought the same or can someone really love this Matthew?

Amber @ Cecilia

I liked matthew but no, I did not looooove him. And your right, he is NO Edward. Edward was almost a perfect guy.

The authors writing style was kind of uneven in general, I think. The characters were uneven because of this.

I did enjoy reading this book and will definately read the second. :)

Cecilia Carreon Glad u liked it. However, i could not finish the second book.

Jayne I like his character because he is not the 'perfect' guy or even one that realises his faults quickly and magically solves all his problems. Flaws are natural and we all have them and his are big.... I like the depth of the character.

As for the writing I love the detail, it is intricate and just what I want to read. I felt satisfied finishing both of these books. I can tell it was a historian and as somebody who is doing post grad research and spends much time reading hefty material, this was well worth getting my teeth into. No detail is spared (whilst not taking the story to ridiculous levels) and that is such a rare thing in a book :)

I completely agree with you. I didn't see anything of Edward in him and I was glad because Edward was ridiculously smothering. Matthew is a well developed character and doesn't stray too far from how vampires are supposed to be.

Finally someone who said it! I totally agree with you (and I definitely saw much of Edward in him, including his possessive nature).
Besides I really hated that he was ready for marriage after just a couple of months after he met Diana but he refused to have sex so not to rush things. What a ridiculous excuse is that?!? And we are not even talking about two teenagers at their first experience! If he didn't want to rush things maybe he shouldn't have married her.

And probably it's just me but once in a while I would like to see all these "very strong and independent women" fall for a normal guy, not someone who has 2 or 3 country estates, a dozen of private helicopters, an army of expensive cars, wears only designer clothes ad drink only 100 years old wines. The problem is, maybe it is because they are very rich or maybe it is because they are vampires or maybe both, but this kind of guys usually behave like they own you and they can decide every aspect of your life.

I think Matthew refused to have sex with Diana because he didn't want her sucked into something (bonding with a vampire) that she might not have really wanted. He was being chivalrous--letting her think it they weren't "rushing" into it, but really, hiding an alterior motive. (Which is, I agree, very much like Edward). Foreplay is quite sexy and is a great way for a writer to leave the reader wanting more and subsequently, reading more!

There is absolutely nothing to like about Bella in Twilight either, yet two guys are fighting over her. This is called fiction. As far as writin goes, this series is a thousand times better.

Well, I don't know, being married sounds quite a bonding to me...

Emma I really liked Matthew as a character, I thought he was intelligent, deep, and intellectual. Loved the interaction between him and some of the more minor characters such as Marthe and Sarah. Really enjoyed the book too, can't wait for the next to be delivered to my door this week!! :)

Matthew reminded me of Edward Cullen too. From the protectiveness to the practically stalking to the sudden attachment to the "I'm dangerous - run away" stuff and so on. Also, Matthew sparkles.

I was intreigued by the supernatural mystery aspect of this book. It is actually a romance book instead of a supernatural mystery. I could not even finish the first book because I found it so boring. I don't like reading about females who only live for their boyfriends.

Prior to the romance plot, I did not mind Matthew.

Totally agree, I couldn't have said it better.
