@Everyone I wanted people to exchange books and talk about them. ;-; I'm pretty sure most or all of us here BUY our books.
@ShoaibWelcome to the group,do tell us a little about yourself.
Likes and Dislikes maybe?Favorite genres?
Theres enough threads here for anyone to be interested.
@Sarah
I mostly read fantasy and Middle Grade.I've tried Y.A a few times but I don't like it as much.
I also have quite a lot of favourites .
@Everyone.
The groups a bit inactive now but there are random bursts of activity all year round as well during The Annual Short story competiton.
@uzair as you can see from my profile what common thing connect us all is love for reading. History, politics, biography is my favorite genre. Love to buy and collect books with this hope that one day my children will read them.
Can't say much about politics but in terms of historyI greatly enjoyed Peter Moss's Oxford History for Pakistan Series.
A fun and interesting few books that boast illustrations giving the appropriate impressions for each topic.
Though brief,they cover many topics and together with games like Age of Empires and Assassins Creed are what got me interested in History as a child.
As for Biography;
Muhammad (P.b.u.h) by Martin Lings/Abu Bakr Siraj Ud Din.
Is a gripping and in depth book.
11/10 would recommend to anyome.
will definitely look into the biographies you recommended. I'd recommend a few autobiographies:
1- The Autobiography of Malcolm X
2- The Road to Mecca by Muhammad Asad.
@Shoaib I have come across mentions of The Autobiography of Malcolm X before.I hope to look into it.
Also what is the Road to Mecca about?A biography of The Holy Prophet?
@Shahmir.
If we’re talking High fantasy ( or reading in general really) my go to recommendation has always been Toby Alone.
I’d try to describe just how amazing it is but I’d fail.
I will this though:
Only two people I’ve recommended this book have ever read it but both adored it and have become more or less avid readers.
As a side note The five Kingdoms series is also a Good light read.
@Sarah
Fantasy is really a treat when you find what type you really like.
And
I’m afraid I’m not really familiar with that genre.Spirituality like religious biographies or. more like self improvement books?
Welcome new members! Hope you enjoy the group :-)My favourite genres are Mystery and Romance.
These days I'm especially very much into Contemporary Romances which:
(a) are reasonably clean
(b) effectively combine angst/drama and humour
(c) contain plenty of feel-good moments
(d) convey a believable connection between the hero and the heroine
(e) show character growth and relationship development
(f) end in a happily ever after
Well, looking forward to interacting with you all.
Thanks and Happy Reading :-)
@Ozair The Road to Mecca is an autobiography by Austria born Jewish journalist Leople Weiss, who happens to travel Middle East and his eventual embrace of Islam. it's intensely interesting read and considered critically acclaimed book.
Shoaib,there is a biography thread in the recommendations section.You may like to discuss more of your favourite biography books,in that thread.
Welcome to the group people!I’ve been getting a-LOT of notifications lately but didn’t get time to look through them before :P
Anyhoo,
Welcome again. I’ve met some amazing people here and hopefully you will too and I’m sure you’ll have a great time here!
Shrouds Over EdenHi, I am new to the group and have just published my first book. Although I have always loved literature and dabbled at writing prose and poetry, this was my first published novel. At first I thought that Shrouds Over Eden would be my only book, but ideas keep pouring into my mind, and friends and families ask that this not be my last. so there are more books in the works.
hi!
my name is amna and am glad to join this group!
my name is amna and am glad to join this group!
Hello Faraz here. Happy to find so many Pakistani book lovers.Hope we will have good time.
Cheers bibliophiles.
Shrouds Over Eden: A Voice for the broken-heartedAlthough most are book lovers, I believe there are a number of writers in the group too.
Not at the moment mam, but surely will join writing in near future under your guidance.And best of luck for your book.
Hello new members! @Helen and @Faraz, I welcome both of you to the group. Its always such a pleasure greeting new friends here. @Helen, your book surely looks amazing so I’ll definitely add it to my tbr list, good luck for your future writings! In answer to your question, I’ve tried my hand at writing this past year, I’ve received a good response, and I’ve also been doing some freelance academic writing.
@Faraz I know you’ll find amazing people to interact with here and some great discussions to learn so much from.
I hope both of you have a great time here!
Thanks @Zarshal. That's so nice of you. A question always pops in my mind that how can I convert my reading into writting.? Which road to follow and how? I read a lot but struggling to write correctly.
I am sure this group is full of intelligent and competent readers as well as writers. I just want to learn from their experiences that how to improve writting skills? Kind suggestions will be highly appreciated.
Thanking in anticipation.
Read. Read. Read.Then write.
Then write. Write. Rewrite.
You have to be fluent in the language you are choosing to write in. Cannot have grammatical errors.
Write with courage. Don’t worry about whether or not it’s good enough.
Write for the love of writing and try to say something in a way that’s never been said before.
Don’t rush it.
Rewriting is probably the most important part of writing.
Be open to criticism and learn from it.
Keep going.
Good luck.
Coming from a "noob" :Try learning from the books you read.
for example reccently while re reading steelheart I learnt that starting a new para is an excellent way to skip time or just change a scene.
@Lara couldn’t have explained it better. @Ozair, yess that’s a great way to learn.
@Faraz, hope that answered your queries, if you have further questions feel free to ask. I personally learned a lot from udemy courses too. While other genres provide a little freedom, academic writing requires you to follow a lot of rules and it requires a LOT of research. Although I enjoy researching, its pretty taxing sometimes xD
Good advice,Lara. In addition, a certain amount of natural talent is also needed to become a good writer.
Assalam u alaikum every one..!Hope everyone is doing good. I am back here after a 3 years break. I have to say i am a bit disappointed after looking at the activity level here. Not to sound really old but in my days this group used to rock. I used to receive almost 80 to 100 notifications per day of this group. Come on people lets pick it up again.
Now tell who is with me ?
Thanks @W and @Maira. Will try my best.So people suggestions are being accepted right now for what kind of activities you want in the group..
