Sam (theliteraryhooker) Woohoo way to go Melanie! :)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Just turned in our points for 7 more!

message 553: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Jennifer & Sam sometime today post just a random post and I'm going to link it. Then when you review your last book go back and edit it (I'll be sure to number it so it's not confusing) That way I can plug the reviews fast when we're done.

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Snow Week:
Read: The Renfield Syndrome (Rhiannon's Law, #2) by J.A. Saare by J.A. Saare
Finished: 2/1/13
Rating: ★★★★★

Review:
This was a reread for me and it was just as good the second time around. This time it was a lot sadder to me knowing how things happen in the next book. I love Paine! It's so hard to pick who's my favorite between him and Disco. The vulnerability he shows in this book is sad and touching. Of course Rhiannon kicked some major a$$ in this one whether it's a vamp, werewolf or demon. For a human she can hold her own.

Original Review:
This one picks up where #1 ended. Rhiannon is thrown into the future. Things are not what she expected. She meets up with a pack of werewolves, tries to get back to the vampire family, and save the world from its future destruction. This book surprised me from start to finish and it's hard to review without spoiling it. And once again ends with a cliffhanger.

Items:
Snow:
I would soon know if there was a snowball's chance in hell KL#1501
Sky: lifted my face towards the darkening sky KL# 149
Nose: Her features were soft full lips, pert nose, dainty chin KL# 556

I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You (Gallagher Girls, #1) by Ally Carter
I'd Tell You I Love You But Then I'd Have to Kill You by Ally Carter
Finished:2/1
Rating:★★★★★

Items Claimed:
Snow :
...one gray piece of slate in a snow-covered field...__Part 4 (46:44)
Sky :
...driving under a sky that matched my mood...__Part 3 (50:05)

Review:
I was in love with this book from page one. Ally Carter provides the reader with a witty, well written take on teenage spies. The book is fun, filled with humor, and secret spy gadgets.
The thing I loved most throughout this book was Cammie's way of throwing in comments about what the Gallagher Girls created, like Velcro. She provided background information about the school and her friends from page one providing a very believable community of people.
I want to read the rest of the series. I can imagine that the rest of the series will make me grin and laugh out loud as this one did.

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Points for Rainbow, Bra, Shelf, Elbow, Fruit, Sock & Belt.

The team now has 30 points. And Melanie is officially the first player done. She is the only one who has submitted all 32 points.

message 558: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Wow really the first! Way to go Melanie :)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) Week 10: Snow
I read: The Hobbit - J.R.R. Tolkien
Finished: Feb. 1st, 2013
Rating: 4.5/5

This was my absolute favorite book growing up, and I'm happy to say, after my first reread as an adult, the story holds up pretty well! I was actually surprised to find how much of the story I just didn't remember at all, to the point where it barely felt like a reread (though it's probably been a decade since I last read it.) This novel makes for a great quick read. Bilbo's adventures are just plain fun, and the character himself is a lot funnier (in a kind of bumbling way) than I remember. There were a few points, particularly when the author sort of butts into the story, where I found myself chuckling at the ridiculousness of a hobbit finding his way into these situations. Overall it's a really fun, entertaining novel, and I'm glad I made an exception to my usual no-rereads policy for this one!

Items to claim:
Snow:
"...behind its shoulders the tips of snow-peaks gleamed." (pg. 53)
Nose: "...every now and again he nodded and...bumped his nose on the pony's neck." (pg. 55)

message 560: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) Jenne, for next week I only need nose, right? I claimed sky with my shoulder book.

message 561: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Yep you're right fixing it now :)

message 562: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (lovebeingvegan) Wow! Didn't know I was the first player done. That is really cool! :)

message 563: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H Yes, it's very cool...now if Jenne, Sam and I had only picked the same words as you we would all be done...lol :)

message 564: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (lovebeingvegan) LOL! I think Jenne is right and it helped that it took me a while to post my books for weeks 7 & 8. I was able to change the items I wanted to claim. :)

message 565: by Sam (last edited Jan 29, 2013 07:02PM) (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) So since we're all done this week's books for this challenge, how are you guys doing with the Rapid Readers challenge? Jennifer I thought your list was hard, but this week's is insane!

I managed to find a book with 5 of the items, but I'm honestly not sure if I'm going to finish it because I'm a chicken and I really hate zombies! lol

message 566: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (lovebeingvegan) I agree! This week's items are insane! I think I'll only manage to get 3-5 of them :(

message 567: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) This week is pretty tough!

message 568: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H I've found a total of 4 words in 2 books...what's the zombie book Sam? I loooovvvveee zombies...hehe :)

message 569: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) Zone One by Colson Whitehead. I'm only about 30 pages in, but I had to stop reading for the night LOL. Something about zombies in particular just terrifies me. I think this one is going to be a nice daytime-only read, followed by something light and happy with kittens and rainbows for my before-bed reading :P

message 570: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H You rock Sam!...lol This is the perfect book to start Friday it's only 253 pgs., it has 6 RR words, all the Team word are available and I can download it from the digital library right this minute :)

message 571: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) lol yeah it's great for a lot of my challenges right now! I just have to get through it, that's all :P Give me vampires, werewolves, mummies, you name it, and I'm fine. But zombies? I don't know what it is about them, they just freak me out!

message 572: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H Lol...My son watched this one zombie flick called "Fido" I think. It was hilarious and very weird. By the end of the movie you got this warm fuzzy feeling about the zombie :)

message 573: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) I've actually seen that movie, and it's one of the only zombie movies that wasn't absolutely terrifying to me LOL. My boyfriend has been trying to get me to watch The Walking Dead with him, but somehow I just don't see that happening :P

message 574: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H The Walking Dead is okay but those zombies don't give you warm fuzzy feelings...lol

message 575: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) Haha no, from the bits I've seen, I definitely didn't get the warm and fuzzies! I'd tried reading the graphic novels but even those were too gory for me. I think I'm just a chicken lol.

I am with you Sam. I am fine with any other supernatural creature, just not Zombies. Ewwwwwww. I am slightly torn though, the previews for Warm Bodies make it look almost interesting. I kind of want to see it but I know evenit will cause Zonbie nightmares.

message 577: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) Maybe it's silly, but it just seems like they might be the most likely to actually *happen* especially since most of the zombie books I've read lately are caused by diseases, plagues, etc. They just freak me out! LOL

Agreed though, Warm Bodies definitely looks interesting! I'll probably see it once it's on Netflix or something, in the comfort of my living room at 1 in the afternoon on a nice sunny day :P That should help with the potential nightmares!

message 578: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) From what it looks like to me team 4 only has one review in for the week. If they don't finish before tomorrow morning then first place will still be up for grabs.

message 579: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) Jenne, when the item gets called tomorrow, could you send a message? For some reason this thread in particular doesn't always work on my phone but if I get a message I can check it from the Goodreads app :)

message 580: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) NP

message 581: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Lol I did read it wrong they're waiting on one review for the win.

message 582: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Just wanted to say, y'all have been a great team! I really had fun with all of you this round :)

message 583: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) Seems like their remaining player maybe hasn't chosen her book yet though, so we might still have a chance if we all read like the wind tomorrow LOL

And I agree, I had a great time doing this challenge with you guys :)

message 584: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H I triple that thought...you guys are great and it has been lots of fun :)

message 585: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) They need 2 reviews to win.

message 586: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) Are there any rules against rereads? I checked the main post and didn't see anything, but I just want to be sure before I start my book.

Of course snow is the one item that NONE of the books I had lined up had. Argh!

message 587: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Same here! Rereads are ok

message 588: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Re-reads are fine, the only thing that I ask is that your review then would include your new feelings on the book. Not just a standard this is the story. Something new you picked up on or the feelings it invokes that make you want to read it over and over. The review needs to reflect that it is a re-read.

message 589: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) No problem, I can definitely do that :)

message 590: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H Snow is available in the book I have picked out and I'll have it read (listened to) by tonight because that is what I'm going to do for the next 6 hours :)

message 591: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Read, read, read ladies! I'm at 32% right now. Good luck

message 592: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) 22% done! If I can keep up the pace I should be done in 5-6 hours.

message 595: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) No problem! I'm a little over half done my book.

message 596: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) I'm done!!!!!!! Review is up. Read, read, read Sam & Jennifer :)
We can do it team 4 is still short one review.

message 597: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) Team 4's last player just checked in to say she's 31% done her book. We still have a really good shot at winning this one!

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Woohoooo! Great news. We can so do this! Jennifer's audio book was only 6 hours so she should be done soon too.
