Are you sure you don't mean the first book of the McCabe trilogy? I thought it was Ewan who lost a wife. I hope it's OK to post this, as I think it's revealed in the first chapter.

But I agree; I liked Never Seduce a Scot better. It may be because it was my first from her, though.

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 602 comments Leea wrote: "If you haven read Pamela Clare... You must. So amazing!! Plus she still has a few books left in the Ranges series to write."

I will try Pamela Clare. I'm in a book buying freeze right now, though. I broke it because I was excited to join the group read, but I am back on it!

Thanks for the recommendation!

Regina (reginar) Graeme had a first wife? I don't remember that? I remember in the first McCabe book the hero had a first wife who had been raped and murdered by a neighboring clan. Where is it referenced? That stinks that I missed this!

This book is definitely stronger than the McCabes.

Regina (reginar) Angie we cross posted, but that is what I was thinking too.

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 602 comments Regina wrote: "Angie we cross posted, but that is what I was thinking too."

This is for 'In Bed With a Highlander.' (view spoiler)

message 106: by Regina (new) - rated it 4 stars

Regina (reginar) Yes and yes!

message 107: by Lori (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lori (lorimcd) OK, sorry... got my heroes and stories mixed up! YIKES! I read these books too close together.

Thanks for the correction! :-)

message 108: by Leea (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leea Hahaha! It's okay, so many Highlanders who can keep track ;)

I'm just so glad everyone enjoyed reading this together.

Regina (reginar) So the sequel is now on Edelweis -- I just saw it this morning! It is published by Random House. I did not see it on NetGalley. Highlander Most Wanted (The Montgomerys and Armstrongs, #2) by Maya Banks

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Ah! I have to go join now!

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Regina, are you on Edelweis? How do you do it? I might be on the wrong site. Do you sign up like NetGalley?

message 112: by Regina (new) - rated it 4 stars

Regina (reginar) It took me awhile to figure it out Wendy. You go to this page: http://edelweiss.abovethetreeline.com... and choose Register. After that you go to this page to see what is up for review: http://edelweiss.abovethetreeline.com...

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Do you have to be a blogger or professional reviewer?

message 114: by Regina (new) - rated it 4 stars

Regina (reginar) No, I don't believe so.

Gwennie (blessedwannab) okie dokie, giving it a shot! :)

message 116: by Regina (new) - rated it 4 stars

Regina (reginar) Good luck! After I learned it, I now like Edelweis better than NG.

Gwennie (blessedwannab) LOL! I sent my plea, so here's hoping.

Do you have a blog?

message 118: by Leea (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leea I feel like it will be hard for me to get approved because I don't have a blog.

I sent my request also - we'll see.

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 602 comments For the love of all that his holy. These Highland books should come with a warning label: ****WARNING: HOUSEWORK AND ALL OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES WILL FALL BY THE WAYSIDE UNTIL YOU HAVE FINISHED THIS SERIES.****

I just finished the second McCabe, and it's my favorite Maya Banks so far. I absolutely adored Alaric and Keeley. I love that they called each other 'warrior' and 'angel.'

(view spoiler)

I cannot wait to read Caelen's book now!

message 120: by Leea (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leea LOL!! Sorry, we should have warned you Angie. Book 2, in the McCabe Trilogy was my favorite also.

Just clean the house next week :)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I LOVED Alaric and Keeley too. It was my most favorite one.

message 122: by Angie Elle (last edited Dec 01, 2012 12:04PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 602 comments I'm glad you gals liked Alaric so much, too. He was damn near irresistible!

Oh, yes. The housework will have to wait until next week because I still have the third McCabe to read! And I am going to have to start it tonight. I'm not even going to pretend that I can hold off.

(view spoiler)

I just have to get over the name 'Rionna.' I just don't like it. I may have to change it as I'm reading. LOL

message 123: by Regina (new) - rated it 4 stars

Regina (reginar) Lol. I LOVE Caelen.

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 602 comments Regina wrote: "Lol. I LOVE Caelen."

Please don't taunt me, Regina. I have my cousin's little boy tonight and we are having a Christmas movie night before I can start reading. :)

That happens when you are voracious reader! LOL I think I've done it a time or two as well!

message 126: by Regina (new) - rated it 4 stars

Regina (reginar) I always read while my kids watch movies. I discreetly (at least I think it is discreet) hold my iphone and read while the movie is playing. :) I don't mean to discourage bad behavior or anything!

Definitely Lori, I also confuse plots too.

message 127: by Angie Elle (last edited Dec 02, 2012 09:10AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 602 comments I just finished the last in the McCabe trilogy. It was amazing! The whole series was so good. I am hesitant to start another Highland series because I just won't do anything else! LOL Are there any out there that are even as good as this one?!?!?

There was only one thing I didn't care for...

(view spoiler)

As with all of the Maya Banks' books I've read, I loved the honesty between the hero and heroine. I love that she can write a book and plot it out so perfectly so that it's not riddled with a bunch of misunderstandings that hinder the MC's from getting together. It makes for a 'fresh' kind of read in my opinion. I feel like she doesn't rely on plot devices for her stories, and I like that.

This trilogy is going to be a tough act to follow. Lord have mercy on the author I choose to read next. ;) Thanks to everyone who recommended them!

message 128: by Regina (new) - rated it 4 stars

Regina (reginar) Are her other books as good? I was not a fan of Sweet Surrender (Sweet, #1) by Maya Banks well it was okay.

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 602 comments Regina wrote: "Are her other books as good? I was not a fan of Sweet Surrender (Sweet, #1) by Maya Banks well it was okay."

I've only read her four Highlander historicals, Regina.

Does she write anything else for contemp beside erotica? I think I'm on erotica overload right now. I had to take a break to read something with plot.

message 130: by Regina (new) - rated it 4 stars

Regina (reginar) She writes romantic suspense too. But RS has to hit it right for me to buy into it (for example, Brockmannn hits it right for me).

You should read Pamela Clare's rangers series, I think you would love it.

Yes, I enjoy Brockmann, too. I also like some of Julie Garwood's RS books.

Someone else recommended the Rangers series as well. I'll check them out. Thank you!

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Speaking of Brockman. Leea, we gotta try to pick one of those up soon!

message 133: by Leea (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leea We should, lol! When?

Yes, read te Rangers series!

Gwennie (blessedwannab) LOL, Maybe toward the end of December? My goal is to finish up my challenge books, and that's 6 books. But after that I should be able to.

message 135: by Leea (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leea Yeah, remind me when you're ready.

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 602 comments Leea wrote: "We should, lol! When?

Halfway through the first! :)

message 137: by Leea (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leea What do you think so far?

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 602 comments Leea wrote: "What do you think so far?"

I love it! I'm so glad you guys recommended it. It's nothing I would've picked out on my own.

(view spoiler)

message 139: by Leea (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leea Yay!! I loved that story as well. I cannot wait till you are done. It's one of my favorite highlander books.

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Leea wrote: "Yeah, remind me when you're ready."

Okay! But don't forget to hound me, lmao. I'll get caught up in other stuff (like I have been).

message 141: by Leea (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leea Haha! We're a pair. Okay, i'll put it on my calendar for the end of this month.

message 142: by Lori (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lori (lorimcd) Totally agree with Angie's comments about the McCabe trilogy. Good stuff.

I've read some of Maya Banks' more contemporary stuff, and it's OK. Some of it is quite absorbing and some of it is just so-so.

message 143: by Regina (new) - rated it 4 stars

Regina (reginar) Lori -- which contemporaries of hers have you read that are absorbing?

message 144: by Regina (new) - rated it 4 stars

Regina (reginar) I just realized I was wrong. I have actually never read anything else by Maya banks. I bought Sweet Surrender in 2010 when I went on a book buying binge and never read it. I guess I need to get on that!

message 145: by Lori (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lori (lorimcd) Regina, I did read the "Sweet" series by Maya Banks, and I have mixed feelings about it. Some of the books were really good, others seemed to pander, IMO. Also, there's the thing about the locale; I used to live in Lafayette, Louisiana, and there were many things "off" for that area that bugged me. Other folks wouldn't know, of course.

As for the Mackinnon's Rangers series - OMG! I read Surrender Mackinnon's Rangers and I'm HOOKED! I honestly think that 1st book is my favorite Highlander of all time, next to Jamie & Claire!

message 146: by Regina (new) - rated it 4 stars

Regina (reginar) Interesting thanks Lori. And yessssass about Clare's Ranger series!!

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Wow! That's a big phrase! I might have to read that, lol.

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 602 comments Lori McD wrote: "Regina, I did read the "Sweet" series by Maya Banks, and I have mixed feelings about it. Some of the books were really good, others seemed to pander, IMO. Also, there's the thing about the locale; ..."

That's funny because Judith McNaught has been my favorite author for about twenty years, and I was thinking that Pamela Clare is my new #1. I thought that would never happen. And bonus...PC seems to publish books on a regular basis where JM has been promising her fans a book for years.

And like I said in another post, I never would have picked these books up on my own. If I read historicals, I prefer they not take place in America. I can't thank those who recommended them enough!

message 149: by Lori (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lori (lorimcd) OK, retracting my former statement about the "Sweet" series by Maya Banks. UGH - I hate it when I get my series and books mixed up. "Sweet Surrender" takes place more in the Dallas area, and it's really quite good. I stand by my "pander" comment, though, with some of the latter books in the series; but still worth reading.

I can't believe I didn't come across some of these authors, like Pamela Clare, earlier in my life! Makes me wonder what in the world I was reading! So glad to be part of Goodreads and groups like these, where I truly find amazing authors, series, and books to read - and have some great folks to chat about the books with!

message 150: by Regina (new) - rated it 4 stars

Regina (reginar) Lori you and me both!!

We should all do a buddy read of her earlier historical series.

Lol did you confuse the Sweet series with Wicked Ties .. I did.
