*Fun fact - Ringa rosie was based on the Black Death (plague). The rings are the black/purple rings that were one of the symptoms. The people of the era thought the plague was transmitted through smell, so they carried pockets of flowers (posies) around to drown out the smell. And when they fall down, well, to put it bluntly, they die.

Actually many scholars of folklore reject the idea that ringa rosie is based on the plague. There reasons include; this explaination appears very late (after the second world war, the black plague is 1665, and about 1951 is when it became firmly associated to the plague. Difference; 287 years. Seems a lond time to form a connection if it is really true), because the symptoms don't fit that well with the plague (sneezing and coughing were a final symptom, but surely children would make more notice of the large tumours and gangrene), and that 19th centuary versions suggest the 'falling down' was not actual falling, probably curtsying or something similar; this kind of stuff was more common at the time. Still could be, I guess; I wasn't there, I don't know for sure.
