Hilary (renfrew) | 66 comments Just joined! I hope to broaden my reading interests through GR's avid readers. What are some of the features of GoodReads that you like best?

message 2: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Why, the people of course! This is my favorite place to check reviews and ratings of books now too, I used to use amazon.com or bn.com.

Welcome to GR! I'm sorry to say that its likely your to-be-read pile will soon fill the Grand Canyon like everyone elses' around here.

message 3: by Hilary (new)

Hilary (renfrew) | 66 comments Thank you both (Allison and Fiona) for the welcome.

Favorites? I like science fiction (though not the very technical science fiction), and fantasy (I've been reading some paranormal romances, but the urban fantasy themes are interesting, too). Mysteries, action-adventure, even children's fare or young adult fiction is welcome. I also read nonfiction and poetry -- though not usually biographies. Historical fiction has more appeal, generally, than historical nonfiction. Mostly I will read anything if it looks interesting enough. I usually finish a book, even if I don't like it.

Aaron (Murtagh) | 5 comments Sound like your reading interests are nearly ID to mine
Oh, and welcome to GR
i havent been here very long so im sorta new to
havent had time to check it out much

message 5: by Hilary (new)

Hilary (renfrew) | 66 comments Aaron, you are an Eragon fan? Is it the fantasy or the dragon that intrigued you?

message 6: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Hi Renfrew, thanks for joining.
All book readers are welcome, no matter what genre. Hope you share some of your faves with us as you go!

message 7: by Kandice (new)

Kandice This is such a fun group. I hope you enjoy yourself!

message 8: by Aaron (new)

Aaron (Murtagh) | 5 comments hey Renfrew
in answer to your question earlier i would have to say...both.
i have always enjoyed the fantasy genre
but i had never read anything like this
Chris paolini welded opposing types of content and differing mythology into a cohesive whole
his grip on fantasy was staggering
even with the resemblance to other fantasy writers such as Anne McCaffrey and J.R.R. tolkien his books are truly a work of art

Lisa Julianna (lisajulianna) | 1053 comments Hi Renfrew welcome to the group!!!
I am just discovering some fantasy books.

message 10: by Hilary (new)

Hilary (renfrew) | 66 comments Hello Lisa. Fantasy is probably my favorite genre. What have you read that you thought was outstanding? (Your profile is set to "Private" -- so I couldn't tell...)

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey Renfrew, I joined goodreads about a month ago, but just joined this group today. I am looking forward to participating in the upcoming challenges; I think they will be my favorite thing on this site. :)

message 12: by Hilary (new)

Hilary (renfrew) | 66 comments I thought the Spring Challenge looked like fun! I'm going to see how many points I can gather...

Thanks for welcoming to GR.

Catamorandi (wwwgoodreadscomprofilerandi) | 1045 comments Hi Renfrow. You will find books of whatever genre you want here. There are lots of recommendations of books here at TNBBC.

message 14: by rebecca j (new)

rebecca j (technophobe) | 6029 comments Hi Renfrow! This is the best group on the site, and you can find discussions on just about any genre here. My personal favorites are sci-fi/fantasy and paranormal romance, but I read about any type of non-fiction, and a lot of YA, since I work with kids.
Feel free to peruse my shelves for titles, and have fun!

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

Hilary (renfrew) | 66 comments Thank you all, for welcoming me. Friendly group!

message 18: by Hilary (new)

Hilary (renfrew) | 66 comments Wow. I visited the profiles of those of you who welcomed me and saw that many of you have read, and reviewed hundreds, even thousands of books...

Where do you find the time?

message 19: by [deleted user] (last edited Feb 25, 2009 11:11AM) (new)

I don't do much reviewing, or as much reading as many of the people here, but most of my books were read years ago, but added just now.

Does your avatar mean that you are a blood donor?

And I almost don't dare ask... what is a book cart drill team!!

message 20: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Hi Renfrew, welcome to the group. I love all the features GR has to offer, but I especially love being able to talk to people from around the world.

we just stop socializing, forget about our lives, the people we know and just live to read....

message 22: by Hilary (new)

Hilary (renfrew) | 66 comments Hayes,
A bookcart drill team is a group of people who do choreography (i.e. drills) to music using bookcarts (wheeled vehicles found in libraries to refile books?). We perform in competitions and parades -- the lighter side of librarianship!

Hilary (renfrew) | 66 comments Thank you for welcoming me to GR. Please accept my apology in my (long) delay in responding.

In one week I will have been with GR for a month! I love meeting like-minded readers from all over the world, too. I enjoy a civil debate, too! It is great to part of a group that celebrates books and reading, as GR does.

Love the idea of the drill team!! Got a video on you tube or something?

Re Blood doning: Brava!! I used to donate when I lived in the states. I haven't for the longest time (health issues - nothing serious) and hope I will be able to get back to it.

message 27: by Hilary (new)

Hilary (renfrew) | 66 comments Try YouTube: "Delaware Diamonds" and "Drill Team" -- then check out some of the other teams as well.
