Francis Franklin (francisjamesfranklin) | 46 comments Hi,

Pick 'N' Mix lists this Jonathan Hill:
http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...
but the correct author is this Jonathan Hill (who wrote Eclectic and Maureen goes to Venice):
http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...

Please could you update.

Thanks,
Frank

I just wanted to check out the issue of the author's name. Should the first author http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/... be as follows: (^=space) Jonathan^Hill

and the second http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/... as:
Jonathan^^Hill

If so, I am happy to make the changes if I am allowed.

Koenraad (koenraadkelemen) | 6993 comments Sorry, I wasn't online. You're right - you can go ahead and make the changes if you like.

so, I went off to do my edit and found a bit of a snag and need some advice. the second Jonathon, whom we agreed above that I would edit, is a goodreads author and I don't have the ability to edit his information. I can edit JH (#1 below), but think the correct action should be notifying the goodreads JH (#2 below) to edit his name to put the two spaces in? What do you think?

1. first http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/ (^=space) Jonathan^Hill

2. second http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/... Jonathan^^Hill
Sorry to be a pain, I am just new at this....

Vicky (librovert) | 2462 comments I'm confused about what you are trying to do.

These profiles are already named Jonathan^Hill and Jonathan^^Hill.

OK then. Nothing to do. I didn't "see" the two spaces. My apologies.

Vicky (librovert) | 2462 comments Two profiles can not exist having the same name (including the use of extra spaces for disambiguation). If, for example, Jonathan^^Hill were to be changed to Jonathan^Hill all of the books would be merged into Jonathan^Hill. When two profiles with the same name do appear it can be safely assumed they have been disambiguated.

You can't, however, see this change on an author's public profile page as the extra spaces are parsed out before display. Because librarians can't edit data for GR Librarians you can look at the edit page of one of their books (such as this one from J^^H to see that their author name has extra spaces.

Hopefully that helps clarify for next time! :)

Thank you Vicky, that is very helpful.
