I thought it may a good idea for our group to have it's own list on Listopia.

So ... I created one!

This list has been initially set up from Middle Grade books that have either been mentioned or donated in our group's discussions. It is now a place where all Goodreads members can add titles or vote on titles already listed.

Note: When setting up this list I have reached my limit of 100 books. Wow, we've discussed a lot of books in GMGR, there are still heaps more that need to be added. Please add any others that you know have been discussed but not listed.

Comments and discussions about the list are also welcome below.

Cheryl (cherylllr) Um, sometimes it's easier to read these lists if only the first book of a series (Narnia, Harry Potter) is included. Also that way a voter doesn't use up his or her 100 limit so fast.

Also, Hunger Games? I've not read it yet, but from what I've heard, most 11-13 year old children are not ready for it. I'd rather include books more fitting for this age group, more recommendable. Just because they are reading it doesn't mean that they wouldn't be better off reading all the other great books geared more to them.

I have to agree. Some of the books on this list are definitely YA, not MG.

Scott Clements (scottclements) | 43 comments Everybody should vote for their favorites!! The #3 book in the list only has 3 votes. Vote for your favorite Middle Grade books... all of your favorites. Share the list on facebook and twitter and encourage others to come vote.

I agree on the YA vs MG comments, so that's why I only voted for the ones I loved, and would gladly let my 11 year old son read. Hopefully, the more MG appropriate titles will shine on the top when everyone votes :-)

Thanks for the hard work S.W.

I agree. I've read and own the Hunger Games series. I love it, but I wouldn't recommend it for middle-grade readers.

Kirstin Pulioff | 8 comments That is a great list! It's nice to have a resource like that to go to... I didn't realize how many lists are on that side.

Katie Carroll (katielcarroll) I added in Suzanne de Montigny's The Shadow of the Unicorn: The Legacy to the list. She's a fellow MuseItUp author and I'd love to see some votes for my house sister.

Beth Oh! I'm headed to the list right now!

Ha, Ha! This, coming from you? I know no one on the web who expends more time and energy promoting and assisting her contemporaries than you do, Sharon. I'm beginning to think you're a robot.

I agree, many of these are not MG and appropriate for my 10 year old but voting does help. I think parents differ in what they believe is right for their tween too. Many of 10year old's friends have read Hunger Games (listed here), which I'm not ready for him to read.

Yeah, a whole lot of these are YA, not just The Hunter Games. The Alana series, Divergent, The Giver (lower YA but still), To Kill a Mockingbird was originally published for adults & coopted by YA, the Abhorsen series, Eon, the Lovely Bones is for adults... A lot of these are good titles, but may we please be more precise when we talk about and promote mid-grade? It's really the best way to spread awareness of its issues, good titles, and respect for its audience.
