SOLVED. sci fi 70s or 80s rain, ice in orbit, escape flood [s]

This basic storyline is about a group of friends and strangers thrown together as they travel in a pouring rain. It is raining everywhere and there are no signs of it letting up. Unknown to the group one of their members knows exactly why it is raining and why it won't stop. He was part of a scientific team that pulled an ice asteroid into earth orbit and broke it into a million pieces to use it for energy or something, but they did not calculate correctly and now the ice is melting and flooding the earth on a biblical scale. It ends with the group on an island that used to be the top of an Appalachian Mountain. I think I read it in the late 70s it could be the early 80s. As I recall they were traveling in an RV and of course the Noah refernece is obvious but there was also and Adam and Eve repopulate the world kind of theme also.
